What it's like to visit a chocolate shop in France

Laura visits a chocolate shop on her first day of tour in France.

There are two things I’ve always associated with France and they are: wine and chocolate. I can remember when my aunt would bring back the most delicious selection of French confections from her travels and how much I enjoyed them, so finding some of my own was definitely at the top of my list.

Luckily, I found just what I was looking for in Carcassonne. During some free time after exploring the castle, I stumbled upon a shop called La Cure Gourmande—a biscuiterie and chocolatier that’s been in business for over 25 years. I was immediately drawn in by the enticing displays and after some free samples, found myself standing in front of a glass case full of different kinds of chocolate. Each had a unique kind of filling, from praline to cherry.

It took a lot of willpower not to walk out with one of each, but after some very serious thought, I wound up with a modest four pieces, each with a different flavored center—caramel, crème de menthe, strawberry and chocolate ganache. I won’t say whether or not they survived the bus ride back to Toulouse, but if anyone asks, I’m making them last.
