Our favorite travel-themed podcast episodes

Right podcasts about travel are bringing the world home. Here are just a few favorite episodes.

We created Tiny Escapes to help bring joy to your day in these unprecedented times. Follow us here or on Instagram and Facebook for more little distractions.

Usually, when I’m listening to a podcast it’s because I’m going somewhere—whether that’s a flight or a quick ride on the bus. Right now I’m doing all my listening from my couch, so podcasts about travel are bringing the world home. Here are just a few of my favorite episodes:

99% Invisible, Tour the Guggenheim

The Guggenheim teamed up with the producers of 99% Invisible to create an audio guide to the world-famous museum. I learned so many things that I never knew!

(Our team also picked our their favorite museums that you can tour online right now. See our full list!)

This American Life, Rest Stop

This American Life is one of my all-time favorites, and this episode is a good reason why. It really captures the excitement of going somewhere, or the feeling of just coming back from a great trip.

EF Outbound, Iceland Through Laura’s Lens

Here at EF, we collected transformative travel stories from people all over the country—so picking just one episode is tough. But this one from Laura, who became a photographer after a life-changing trip to Iceland, might just inspire you to go and chase your dreams, too.

Judge John Hodgeman, Baggage Claims

If you need a laugh, Judge John Hodgeman will do the trick. In this travel-themed episode, his guests debate whether or not it’s a good idea to travel just for the sake of collecting airline miles.

Field Recordings, Streets of Japan

Field Recordings is not your typical podcast. The short episodes capture environmental sounds, which can be everything from Italians singing from their balconies to the quiet of a field in Denmark. It’s really soothing! I especially like this one of a summer night in Japan.

Call Your Girlfriend, Homebodies

Okay, this is not a travel episode. But it’s on my list because it’s important to enjoy where we all are now, too—at home. Plus, best friends Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman are a stellar example of how to keep in touch across distances. They created this podcast for their long-running cross-country friendship!
