What you’ll learn
In Japan, tea is more than just a hot drink. It is a very important ritual that has a lot of meaning within the culture. The tea ceremony represents purity, tranquillity, respect and harmony and a lot of preparation goes into this important event. Join Tokyo native Yukiko as she walks you through the steps to making the perfect Japanese matcha tea. After, learn about the cherry blossom trees including their significance to locals and how to experience them on tour.
We also recommend bringing:
∙ A cup of matcha green tea (if you want to sip while you listen!)

The speakers

Yukiko is a Tokyo native and the owner of the Koomon, Tokyo, where she has been sharing Japanese culture with both locals and travelers since 1994. Here, she invites people to step away from their busy daily lives and gather to discover the history, philosophy, and meaning of traditional cultural activities alongside masters. Through hands-on demonstrations, participants can enjoy being in the moment while learning about everything from the Japanese tea ceremony and calligraphy to Ikebana, Japanese flower arrangement.
