We’ve been learning more and more about the beautiful cities found in Oregon and Washington—and a lot of our learnings have been based around the region’s incredible food. When I set out to research this blog post about where to eat in Portland, I did what everyone on our writing team does: I sent an all-staff email to our teams in Boston, Denver and Toronto to see if anyone had any insight to share. Being the company of traveling foodies that we are, I got an overwhelming amount of recommendations that I’ll be organizing and sharing over the course of a few posts.
But first, brunch.
Brunch is a cultural obsession in Portland. In fact, it’s so competitive that it’s easy to find a decent mid-morning meal. “Any place with good online reviews is going to be amazing,” says former Portland resident and Go Ahead Software Developer, Joe. ”Just call ahead to see if there’s a line or get there early.” To help you on your way to an amazing brunch while visiting Portland here are a few of our favorite places.
The Daily Feast

This beloved restaurant is owned by Christine Burmeister and boasts a menu made to share family-style. It was the desire to help everyone to get their kids eating well that led her to start of opening The Daily Feast. Our favorite dishes include the scrumptious, cheesy scramble served with hashbrowns and toast and the chorizo breakfast burrito including homemade refried black beans. For cocktails, try the boozy milkshakes for a new twist on brunch.
Bread & Ink
Visit at: 3610 SE Hawthorne Boulevard
This neighborhood favorite specializes in Liège-style waffles, which are chewy and studded with pearls of sugar. Grab a decadently flavored waffle (like bacon, brie and basil) at the Waffle Window outside, or sit down inside Bread & Ink for the chicken and waffles with gravy.
Screen Door
Visit at: 2337 East Burnside Street
Since Screen Door is one of the city’s most sought-after brunch spots, anyone with a weekday free is in luck—they serve breakfast all week. Avoid the weekend crowds to get more time to savor the southern-style fare, like the low country shrimp and grits, buttermilk fried chicken, and oyster benedict.
