What travelers say about their tours to Austria

It was outstanding!
07/09/19 by 1st-time traveler Connie
My husband & I just returned from the Germany/Switzerland/Austria tour. We saw so many castles, churches, palaces, statues, paintings, mountains, small village towns, large European cities, & more! We were able to go on top of a couple of the Alps & then underground in Salzburg for a salt mine tour.
Germany, Switzerland & Austria
Outstanding Tour!
05/25/19 by 7th-time traveler Wendy
You will not be disappointed! Vienna is beautiful and I enjoyed the local walking tour. That evening we went to a traditional Viennese dinner. Delicious! A fabulous trip and I can’t end without sending a huge thank you to Indira, our tour director who went above and beyond!

Awesome tour
05/25/19 by 2nd-time traveler Wendy
If you want to visit beautiful places, this is the tour for you. Austria is gorgeous. Salzburg is really beautiful but the center city Vienna is absolutely stunning. Our tour guide Indira was top notch as well as our tour bus driver, Marcin.

True professionals in vacation planning!
7/27/2018 by first-time traveler Diane
Such a value! Every day offered us opportunities to see and do so much with the group, as well as opportunities to tour on our own. Each destination had a city tour with excellent professional, knowledgeable local guides who not only shared their passion for their city but also the cities history.
Touring the Alps, Bavaria and Budapest
05/15/18 by 5th-time traveler Brian
The scenery that included the mountains of the Alps, the glacial rivers and lakes, the rustic valleys and the Black Forest were breathtaking. We especially enjoyed our time in Heidelberg, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Vienna and the extension to Budapest.

Travel tips for Austria tours

What are some interesting things to do on a trip to Austria?

Austria is famous for its castles, history, and geography. So, of course, you’ll want to get the most of it on our Austria tours. Here’s how:

  • Take in the beauty of the Austrian Alps. Whether you ski, hike, or simply take some photos, it’s truly breathtaking.
  • Visit Liechtenstein, a tiny Alpine principality dating back to the Holy Roman Empire, where a castle still serves as a royal residence.
  • Feel like royalty at Melk Abbey, a fortified Benedictine abbey overlooking the Danube River.
  • Step inside Belvedere Palace, home to the world’s largest collection of paintings by artist Gustav Klimt, and admire the palace’s impressive gardens.

When is the best time to visit Austria?

If you’re planning a trip to Austria, try to go during the off-season. Trips to Austria during the spring and fall mean fewer crowds, sunnier days, and a lot less snow.

What should I pack for a trip to Austria?

Here are a few things to toss in your suitcase before you go:

  • Lots of layers for comfort, no matter the temperature
  • Long pants, as locals tend to dress more conservatively
  • Fashionable clothing for Vienna, where style reigns supreme
  • A waterproof jacket, especially during the winter and spring

What are some must-try dishes in Austria?

There are so many options, but here are some of our favorites:

  • Tafelspitz. This dish is made with beef or veal and then boiled in broth with vegetables and potatoes. It goes great with applesauce, horseradish, and cooler weather.
  • Wiener schnitzel. You’ve probably heard of this breaded, fried veal cutlet dish, but it’s too delicious not to mention.
  • Goulash. This may have Hungarian origins, but Austria has its own version—and it’s delicious.
  • Sachertorte. Okay, this one’s a dessert. But it’s worth a mention! This dense chocolate sponge cake with apricot jam is a proud symbol of Vienna.

Why should I take a group tour to Austria?

One of the main benefits of going on Austria group tours is that you don’t have to worry about any of the planning. Our Austria trips visit all the top sites without any of the stress.  Local experts will teach you anything you want to know about the area and the culture, too.

Our Austria guided tours also include unique and memorable experiences, like a ride on Vienna’s Prater Ferris Wheel followed by an authentic Austrian meal served with locally made wine.
