What our travelers say about their
Safari & Wildlife tours

Kenya Wildlife Safari
02/25/22 by 12th-time traveler Jan
Kenya did not disappoint! The people we met were so caring and just genuinely nice. They were so patient and happy as well. Seeing all of the animals in their natural environment makes you realize their grandeur. The guides were so informative, teaching us about the landscape, animals and culture.

Tanzania Wildlife Safari

We liked the Kenya and Tanzania tours so much the first time we decided to return for another opportunity to be thrilled and amazed by the majesty of the giraffes, the power of the lions, the grace of the Tommies, the tapestry of colors of the various birds..

Amazing bucket list experience
11/26/2018 by first-time traveler Lance K.
The Tanzania guided Wildlife Safari was more spectacular than we had even imagined. Our very experienced guide Emmanuel was so knowledgeable about every animal and the geology that we came away with a much higher understanding than we expected.

Amazing adventure!
12/9/2017 by 7-time traveler Linda W.
What a wonderful trip, Richard our tour director was a fountain of knowledge as we bombarded him with questions. He made the trip more amazing seeing it through his eyes and experiences. Seeing the Big 5 was absolutely the best. Victoria Falls were absolutely amazing to see.

Tips for taking Safari & Wildlife tours

What to expect on Safari & Wildlife Tours

Safari & Wildlife Tours feature opportunities to view wildlife in their natural habitat, learn about the flora, fauna, and ecology of a region, as well as interact with local communities in the destinations you visit. Each tour also includes a focus on conservation and preservation efforts, which you’ll discuss with your Tour Director, local guide, expert naturalist, or park ranger. You can always count on a small group of 10–22 travelers on Safari & Wildlife Tours.

On each of our African safari packages, you’ll enjoy game drives with your group in 4x4 safari Land Cruiser vehicles. Your guide on safari is also your driver, and they’ll be able to tell you all about the African animals you see. You’ll spend a lot of time driving over the “African highway”—miles of rocky dirt roads—so be prepared for a bit of a bumpy (but totally amazing) ride. You can expect unique forms of transportation on wildlife tours too: think boat rides, nature walks, and train rides.

The accommodations on your group safari tours and wildlife tours have been handpicked and tested by our staff on the ground. Each hotel is designed to make the most of your incredible natural surroundings—that means lodge-style accommodations with modern amenities, so you’ll have the comforts of home with an adventurous twist.

When to travel on Safari & Wildlife Tours

The best months for safari trips to Tanzania or Kenya are July through October. That’s when major animal migrations happen across the Serengeti and Masai Mara, and seeing some amazing wildlife is practically guaranteed.

Safari trips to South Africa, Botswana, and Zimbabwe are best during the dry season between April and October. There will be less vegetation, which makes spotting animals easier, and wildlife will tend to gather around watering holes for a drink. It’s the perfect chance to see lots of species at once!

The best time for wildlife trips to the Americas depends on your destination. For example, Central America has a tropical climate year-round, while Alaska is most comfortable during the summer months.

Where to go on safari tours

What countries are best for an African safari? Many of our African safari vacation packages offer a wildlife adventure experience for the whole tour. Trips to Kenya, Tanzania, or Zimbabwe and Botswana immerse you in Africa’s natural beauty and offer daily game drives for wildlife viewing. If you want a mix of city and nature, our South African safari tours are a perfect choice. You’ll have a few days of game drives, as well as the chance to explore the cultural capital of Cape Town.

Know you want to travel on our safari trips, but aren’t sure which one’s right for you? One of our expert Tour Consultants can help you choose your perfect tour.

Packing tips for Safari & Wildlife Tours

Packing for Safari & Wildlife tours can feel intimidating but a few simple tips can get you prepared!

  • Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that can be easily layered are always recommended.
  • Always being a sturdy pair of walking shoe.
  • A sun hat, sunglasses, and rain gear will help you stay comfortable in all types of weather.
  • Sunscreen, insect repellent, hand sanitizer, and binoculars are other must-haves while on tour.
  • When packing for African safari trips, remember that luggage restrictions on game drives are strictly enforced. You’ll need to bring a soft, flexible duffle—hard suitcases are forbidden on safari vehicles to ensure everyone’s comfort and safety. Because of this, you’ll want to pack light.
  • One expert tip? Wear muted or light-colored clothing, as brighter colors can scare animals away.

Once you’ve booked one of our wildlife tours or African safari packages, we’ll send you more detailed information to get you ready for your trip. That includes a packing list you can use to plan for your wildlife tour or safari tour.
