Travel tips for Dublin trips
We recommend:
- Rain gear. Although storms are common in Ireland, they never last long.
- Comfortable walking shoes. Most Dublin trips have a lot of walking involved—sometimes on historic, cobblestone streets.
- Lots of layers. Early mornings can be a bit chilly on Dublin trips, while afternoons can get quite warm.
The weather in Dublin, and all of Ireland for that matter, can be pretty unpredictable. That means any time is as good as another to plan for tours to Dublin.
However, if you’d like to go when there are fewer crowds (and it’s more affordable), we recommend spring and fall—Ireland’s off-season. And if you’re a lover of all things spooky, we offer a Haunted Halloween tour of Dublin in October.
The top places to visit on our Dublin tours include:
- Kilmainham Gaol. This jail is a must-see for anyone interested in Dublin’s history. It opened in 1796 and housed several revolutionists and political prisoners, including Nelson Mandela.
- The Guinness Storehouse. The storehouse and museum are the perfect places for some history (and shopping) wrapped up with a nice pint at the end. You can even raise your glass at the Gravity Bar while taking in breathtaking, 360-degree views of the city, or learn to pour a perfect pint with experts in the Guinness Academy.
- Christ Church Cathedral. Dublin is home to several stunning cathedrals, but this one brings the chance to climb up the bell tower and ring the famous bells.
Read our Dublin Travel Guide for what to know before visiting Dublin.
There are so many different things to do on our tours of Dublin, but here are a few favorites:
- Eat at the Oldest Pub in Dublin. O’Neil’s Pub dates back to 1198 and has some of Dublin’s best Irish stew.
- Visit the Hellfire Club and take a ghost tour. It’s a bit outside the city, but this tour is worth it if you love spooky locales. Dublin also has plenty of other haunted locations where you can hear a tale or two... and maybe even come home with a ghost story of your own.
- Sip some Jameson at the distillery. The Jameson Distillery may not be active anymore, but there’s still plenty to learn and taste. The word “whiskey” has Gaelic roots, after all!
- Shop at George’s Street Arcade. This indoor market center dates back to Victorian times. You can find anything from eclectic boutiques to souvenir shops and delicious eateries.
Common foods to try on our Dublin trips include:
- Irish breakfast, which features bacon or sausage, eggs, and beans
- Savory stews with meat and potatoes
- Fish and chips (cod, sole, or scampi)
The biggest benefit of choosing one of our Dublin tour packages is that all of the planning is done for you. When you don’t have to worry about where to stay, where to go, or how to get there, you can focus on enjoying all of the incredible sites.
Our Dublin guided tours, like A Week in Ireland, take you to all of the top sites with optional excursions and free time to explore on your own. Many people who go on our Dublin group tours also make lifelong friends.
