Day 2: Arrival in Edinburgh
Included meal: Welcome dinner
Welcome to Scotland! Meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers at tonight’s welcome dinner, served with beer or wine.
Day 3: Sightseeing tour of Edinburgh
Included meal: Breakfast
Nestled between the rivers Almond and Esk, Edinburgh emerges from a series of hills and rocky ridges, earning its nickname, “the Athens of the North.” Get to know the Scottish capital and all its medieval beauty on a tour led by a local expert.
- View the elegant, dramatic Neoclassical and Georgian architecture in the New Town. Its ornate sandstone and granite structures, surrounding oasis-like gardens and green spaces, became a model for European urban planning.
- Contrast the New Town’s grace with the Old Town’s rustic Royal Mile, which runs between Edinburgh Castle and The Palace of Holyroodhouse—the official residence of British monarchs in Scotland. Here, you’ll cross moody narrow streets and alleys, known as “closes,” flanked by brooding stone buildings and timeworn cathedrals.
- Pass the towering Sir Walter Scott monument. Paying homage to the “Ivanhoe” and “Rob Roy” scribe, it’s one of the largest monuments devoted to an author in the world.
- Ascend Castle Rock and enter Edinburgh Castle. Standing on an extinct volcano at the top of the Royal Mile, it houses the Scottish Crown Jewels.
Use your free afternoon in the city to go back and wander the winding streets of Old Town. If you’re feeling adventurous, perhaps consider a spooky stroll through the tunnels that weave underneath the city. Of course, you can always tuck into a booth in a cozy cafe and linger over tea and shortbread.
If you’d like, fill your night with song and dance at an optional cèilidh (say it “KAY-lee”). Alternatively, break off from the group for a free evening on your own.
Please note: The order of today’s activities is subject to change.
Day 4: Free day in Edinburgh
Included meal: Breakfast
Use your free day to add an optional excursion to the Scottish coast and tour St Andrews—the birthplace of golf and the site of Scotland’s oldest university. Plus, enjoy a traditional pub lunch of fish and chips—a local favorite.
If you’re staying behind in Edinburgh and are up for a short hike, you can climb Arthur’s Seat (an extinct volcano!) for unmatched views of the city and surrounding countryside. Pick up some oatcakes, smoked salmon, and shortbread on the way and make it a picnic.
York1 night
Day 5: Transfer to York & sightseeing tour
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Leave Edinburgh and traverse the farms, patchwork fields, and small villages of the English countryside en route to York. You’ll find yourself in a city founded by the Romans in 71 A.D.; soak in all its historic charm on a sightseeing tour.
- Visit the ruins of St. Mary’s Abbey and the Shambles, a medieval street famous for its narrow, cobbled lanes and overhanging timber-framed buildings.
- Join a local guide inside York Minster, a massive Gothic cathedral (one of the largest in Northern Europe) that houses the world’s largest collection of medieval stained glass.
- View the Roman wall, the oldest section of the city’s historic fortifications. (Did you know you can walk atop the York City Walls? If you choose to do so, you can catch a glimpse of the River Ouse and York Minster.)
Sit down for an included dinner this evening, served with beer or wine.
Bath2 nights
Day 6: Bath via Stratford-upon-Avon
Included meal: Breakfast
Drive through the countryside to Stratford-upon-Avon, the town of playwright and poet William Shakespeare’s birth. Here, you’ll step inside the Shakespeare family home to tour the grounds, hear about the dramatist’s family life, and take in a bit of theater.
You’ll also make a brief photo stop at Anne Hathaway’s cottage. Shakespeare's wife and her relationship with her famous husband is shrouded in mystery and controversy, see if you can get to the bottom of it in her former home, which has been lovingly restored. Its thatched roof and creeping vines and gardens are right out of a storybook.
Finally, continue to the town of Bath, where you’ll settle in for the evening.
Day 7: Sightseeing tour of Bath
Included meal: Breakfast
Bath has the unique honor of being a double UNESCO World Heritage Site: first named to the list in 1987 for its mix of Roman remains and Georgian aesthetics, then again in 2021 as one of the Great Spa Towns of Europe. Dive right into its highlights today, with your Tour Director in the lead.
- Pass a host of famous places, including the Royal Crescent—one of England’s eminent examples of Palladian architecture—and the Circus. And no visit to Bath would be complete without entering its namesake attraction: the Roman Baths that have stood since the first century A.D.
- Enjoy free time for lunch and shopping or enter the Bath Abbey on your own. Founded in the seventh century and expanded in the English Gothic fashion, it’s a stone’s throw from the Roman Baths and a worthwhile visit for any architecture aficionado.
Once you’ve recharged, add an optional excursion and head further into the city to visit the home-turned-museum of Jane Austen—Bath’s most famous resident. Alternatively, spend some free time indulging in a modern-day spa, fed by the same thermal waters that soothed the Romans thousands of years ago.
London2 nights
Day 8: London via Lacock & Stonehenge
Included meal: Breakfast
Travel to London today. En route, visit the charming village of Lacock and stop to admire the mysterious monoliths at Stonehenge.
- Walk through the beautifully preserved medieval town of Lacock. If it looks familiar, that’s because it’s a popular filming location, having made appearances in “Downton Abbey” and “Harry Potter.”
- Continue to Stonehenge and enter the recently opened Stonehenge Visitors Centre, taking in a number of exhibitions before walking to the monument itself — a UNESCO-listed landmark, erected some 5,000 years ago.
Day 9: Sightseeing tour of London
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell dinner
Join a local guide for a panoramic tour of London’s regal landmarks, soaking in centuries of history and culture along the way.
- Pass stately Trafalgar Square—a popular public plaza surrounded by museums, galleries, and historic buildings—and St. Paul’s Cathedral. Sat atop Ludgate Hill at the highest point of the City of London neighborhood, this Baroque Anglican church dates back to the 17th century and has hosted state funerals and royal jubilees over the years.
- See Westminster Abbey, one of London’s four UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Since its consecration in 1065, it’s seen 16 royal weddings and the coronation of 40 monarchs, and serves as the final resting place of 18 British rulers.
- Catch a glimpse of skyline icons like the Elizabeth Tower (the clock tower known as Big Ben) and the London Eye observation wheel. Then, take some time to marvel at the Tower of London: a historic castle that has functioned as a royal palace and prison, and is now home to the Crown Jewels.
- Stop by Buckingham Palace—the official residence of the ruling monarch since Queen Victoria first called it home in 1837.
If you add it to your itinerary, you’ll then depart for an optional, expert-led tour of the longest-inhabited castle on the planet—Windsor Castle. Or, enjoy a free afternoon in London proper. The 350-acre Hyde Park is a little over a half-mile from Buckingham Palace; make the walk and roam its grassy fields, or maybe even rent a boat for a leisurely cruise on the Serpentine.
Tonight, celebrate your trip with your fellow travelers at a farewell dinner, served with beer or wine.

London2 nights
Day 10: Sightseeing tour of London's East End
Included meal: Breakfast
Today, explore the East End of London with a Blue Badge guide leading the way. Once the city's poorest neighborhood, it has since blossomed into a thriving cultural mecca and safe haven for immigrants escaping persecution.
- Begin in Spitalfields, the heart of London's Bangladeshi community, and discover how waves of newcomers—from Huguenot silk weavers to Jewish refugees to Bengali families—have shaped this dynamic district.
- Pass the Kindertransport Memorial, a poignant tribute to the thousands of children who fled Nazi persecution and found refuge in Britain during World War II.
- Learn about the area's silk weaving traditions, which flourished here in the 18th century and left an indelible mark on the neighborhood's architecture and character.
- Stop at Brick Lane Mosque, a building that has served as a church, a synagogue, and now a mosque—a powerful symbol of the East End's ever-evolving identity.
- Head to Brick Lane itself and explore the vibrant street art that adorns its walls, from bold murals to intricate stencils, as your guide shares stories of the locals who call this colorful district home.
On a clear day, the London Eye reveals an incredible panorama that stretches 25 miles. Add this evening's excursion to join us for a spin around this 450-foot-tall observation wheel, followed by dinner. To spend your free afternoon on your own, luxuriate in fine shopping and dining in posh Covent Garden in the West End, or head to Shoreditch for its vibrant art and street food scene. As always, your Tour Director is your go-to source for extra recommendations.
Day 11: Free day in London
Included meal: Breakfast
Palace, fortress, prison, zoo—the Tower of London has lived many extraordinary lives since being built by William the Conqueror in the 11th century. Visit the UNESCO-listed landmark with a guide and see the British Crown Jewels up close by adding our excursion to your itinerary.
If you’d rather explore on your own, use your free day to check out some of London’s many excellent museums. (Some of our favorites: the traditional exhibits of the British Museum in the Bloomsbury district, and the more interactive offerings of the Cutty Sark clipper ship in Greenwich, on the south bank of the River Thames.)
Later tonight, rejoin your tourmates for a farewell drink.
