Day 3: Sightseeing tour of Thessaloniki & wine tasting
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting, Wine tasting
Set out on a guided tour to get to know Thessaloniki, Greece’s lively northern gem and the second-largest city of the former Byzantine Empire. With its mix of history, seaside energy, and youthful culture, this is a place that balances ancient grandeur with modern-day charm.
- Step inside the Rotunda, built for Roman Emperor Galerius in the fourth century, and take in its soaring dome and centuries of history layered in mosaic and stone.
- Pass by the Hagios Demetrios and Hagia Sophia churches, two of Thessaloniki’s most revered landmarks, where light spills across marble floors and Byzantine icons glimmer in gold.
- Trace the outline of the city’s Roman-style walls, standing strong since the third century and still watching over the jumble of rooftops below.
- Stroll the seaside promenade, a favorite local hangout, and pause to admire the White Tower—a symbol of Thessaloniki and a perfect photo stop against the Aegean backdrop.
- Pop into a market stall or cafe to sample local olives. Plump and briny, their simple taste tells the story of Greek life.
- Wander through the Ladadika district—a maze of restored warehouses turned into tavernas and boutiques—and enjoy free time to explore, shop, or linger over a coffee.
Head south to the Epanomi wine region, where rolling vineyards meet sea breezes and family-run wineries carry on centuries-old traditions. This afternoon, enjoy a visit to a local vintner and learn more about the art of winemaking.
- Follow your guide through the vineyard’s rows, learning about the native malagousia and assyrtiko grapes that thrive in the coastal soil.
- Step inside the production area, where the scent of fermenting grapes fills the air and modern innovation meets age-old techniques.
- Visit the on-site museum, home to beautifully preserved bottles, barrels, and corkscrews that trace the long, fascinating history of Greek winemaking.
- End your visit with a tasting, savoring the region’s signature reds and whites as you toast to a day of discovery.
Day 4: Free day in Thessaloniki
Included meal: Breakfast
With a whole free day at your disposal, check in with your Tour Director for an activity recommendation. Or start your day with a crisp cappuccino freddo—the local take on iced coffee—and head uphill into Ano Poli (the Upper Town). Thessaloniki’s oldest neighborhood boasts cobblestone lanes, Ottoman-era houses, and panoramic views that stretch to Mount Olympus on a clear day.
You can also join us for a curated optional excursion to the ancient ruins of Aigai, where Alexander the Great was crowned. After, you’ll head into the hills of Naoussa for a leisurely lunch and wine tasting. Sip bold reds and crisp whites from one of Greece’s most celebrated wine regions as you savor Macedonian dishes and mountain views.
Meteora2 nights
Day 5: Transfer to Meteora & sightseeing tour
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Today, travel to the Pindus mountain range—the spine of Greece—and arrive in the remote village of Kalambaka. Then, take a guided walking tour of the Meteora monasteries. Isolated atop towering sandstone cliffs, the six surviving monasteries date back to the 14th century, when they were established by Orthodox Christian hermit monks.
- Enter two of the UNESCO-listed monasteries, such as the Monastery of Roussanou, the Monastery of Agios Stefanos, or the Monastery of Varlaam.
- Hike up to the monasteries to admire views from 1,000-foot-high pinnacle rocks. (While one of the holy sites requires trekking up 80 steps, there’s lots to see and do below if you’re not feeling up for the climb!)
This afternoon, you’ll hear more about the tenets and traditions of Eastern Orthodox Christianity—the beliefs followed by this branch of the faith, the daily lives of initiates, and the work monks do at monasteries.
Freshen up at your hotel before heading out for tonight's included dinner, served with beer or wine.
Please note: You must cover your shoulders and knees when visiting the Meteora monasteries.
Day 6: Meteora region truffle hunt
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Tasting

Afterward, watch as your freshly found truffles are transformed into a rich pasta dish, served with local wine under the trees.
Cap off the experience with a visit to the award-winning Natural History Museum of Meteora and Mushroom Museum, where a guided tour reveals the fascinating world of fungi and the region’s unique biodiversity.

Day 8: Sightseeing tour of Athens
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
Today, a local guide introduces you to the ancient highlights and traditional flavors of this bustling capital, home to the world’s first democracy.
- Set off on a guided walking tour of the Plaka district. One of the oldest parts of Athens, it’s known as “the neighborhood of the gods” due to the dozens of monuments strewn throughout.
- Visit the markets of the Monastiraki neighborhood, stopping to sample a variety of cheeses and loukoumades, a type of sweet fried dough drizzled with honey. The latter is sticky, chewy, and totally addictive.
- Walk around the ancient Acropolis—site of the Parthenon, Temple of Athena Nike, and Erechtheion. You may have seen these enduring icons of antiquity in books and film, but now you’re stepping through the work of craftsmen who quarried and honed these marble blocks thousands of years ago.
Enjoy a free evening, perhaps back in Plaka. Take your time to explore more of this neighborhood largely unbothered by time and modernity, filled with distinctive red-tiled rooftops, outdoor cafes, and colorful street vendors. For a hands-on experience of Greek cuisine, join us for an optional cooking class where you and your tourmates will whip up a three-course meal and end the evening by devouring your creation.
Chania2 nights
Day 9: Flight to Chania & cooking class
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
This morning, board a flight to Chania this morning located on the northwestern side of the island of Crete. Spend the afternoon relaxing before heading to a local cooking school, where you’ll prepare regional dishes alongside a professional chef. Then, enjoy Greek wines and the foods you cooked for dinner.
Day 10: Food walking tour of Chania
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
Explore the flavors and history of Crete on a guided walking tour through Chania’s storybook Old Town. Get ready to follow cobblestone lanes that twist between honey-colored Venetian mansions and dive into the island’s multicultural history.
- Step inside the soaring Cathedral of the Trimartiri, where sunlight dances across Byzantine icons.
- Stroll past the pink-domed Mosque Yiali Tzami, a relic of Ottoman rule turned cultural hub, and pause at the harbor to admire the Venetian lighthouse, its silhouette gleaming against the cobalt-blue sea.
- Dive into the sensory whirl of the Old Chania Market, where vendors call out in melodic Greek and every stall offers temptation—herbs bundled with twine, creamy cheeses, golden olive oil, and flaky bougatsa pastries dusted with sugar. Taste your way through centuries of tradition, one bite at a time.
For rest of the day, you’ll have plenty of free time to explore on your own. We recommend taking a walk along the Venetian Harbor promenade at golden hour—the light softens, the lighthouse glows, and you’re tucked into a taverna tucked along the water. For a taste of local specialties, we’ve arranged an optional excursion today to a Cretan olive oil farm, followed by a wine tasting and dinner overlooking the vineyards. You won’t want to miss it.
Athens1 night
Day 11: Archanes village, Iraklio wine country & flight to Athens
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting, Wine tasting, Farewell lunch
Travel through Iraklio wine country today, making several stops as you do. Iraklio is the largest and most important wine-producing region in Crete—and has been for about 4,000 years. This is the same soil that supplied the Minoans and ancient Greeks with their table wine, and you can still find remnants of ancient wine presses carved into the rock in some vineyards.
- Visit Archanes, a village that once served as the summer residence of the Minoan kings. There, enter the Aretousa weaving cooperative, a women-led organization dedicated to preserving Cretan textile-making traditions for future generations. Watch as artisans spin away at their looms, their fingers dancing across the yarn.
- After touring the property, pause for an included lunch and sommelier-led tasting. The stars of the show: kotsifali, a red grape indigenous to Crete; mandilaria, another red grown throughout the Greek Isles; and malvasia, a Mediterranean varietal used in everything from dry whites to dessert wines.
Then board a flight in Heraklion back to Athens, where a free evening awaits—take a stroll through the city’s lamplit streets, linger over a plate of mezedes, or turn in early for a good night’s sleep.
Flight Home
Day 12: Departure
Included meal: Breakfast
Transfer to the airport for your flight home, or island-hop to Naxos, where silky olive oils, tangy cheeses, and more Greek hospitality await.

Then, return to Athens for one final night in the capital.

- Head to a nearby village and join a Naxian family for a hands-on cooking class. You have a free day to yourself. Use it to join our optional excursion into Naxos’ mountainous heart for a day of local flavor and craftsmanship. Make cheese in Apeiranthos, savor lunch with local wine, explore artisan weaving, and taste kitron, the island’s signature citrus liqueur.
If you’d prefer to stay behind, you can lounge on Agios Prokopios or Plaka Beach and swim in the turquoise waters, or wander the Old Town of Naxos Chora, with its Venetian castle, winding alleys, and cute shops.
