Group size
15–38 travelers

Pack Switzerland’s Alpine highs into a single, weeklong itinerary.

Cozy villages standing beside crystal-clear lakes. Soaring mountain peaks permanently dusted with snow. It’s the quintessential Swiss experience—just as much as French-style chateaux, German half-timbered houses, and Italian aperitivi. This tour introduces you to the country’s greatest hits, spread across its three main regions. From Lausanne’s Olympic Museum and Lucerne’s Kapellbrucke to Habkern’s alphorn factory and Ticino’s grottos, you’ll dive into the local culture at every stop. And for an extra helping of Alpine glitz, add the extension to St. Moritz and Zurich.

Your tour package includes

  • 7 nights in handpicked hotels
  • 7 breakfasts, 1 lunch, and 3 dinners with beer or wine
  • 4 sightseeing tours, including a visit to a working alphorn factory
  • 1 expert Tour Director, your go-to for all things Switzerland
  • 3 local guides, ready to bring each stop to life
  • Private deluxe motor coach for easy cruising across the Alps
  • Entrances to museums, landmarks, and more—so you can skip the lines

Included highlights

  • Delving into the spirit of sport at Lausanne’s Olympic Museum
  • Breathing in the crisp Alpine air as you tour the village of Lauterbrunnen
  • Riding the steepest cable car in the world to the summit of the Schilthorn
  • Looking on as artisans craft Switzerland’s famous alphorns
  • Feeling the creak of centuries-old timber as you cross Lucerne’s fresco-covered Kapellbrucke
  • Ducking into a traditional Ticino grotto for an included lunch

Lake Geneva Region

Day 2: Arrival in Geneva & transfer to hotel

Included meal: Welcome dinner

Welcome to Switzerland! After touching down, make your way to the Lake Geneva region and check into your hotel. Tonight, you’ll get to know your Tour Director and groupmates during a welcome dinner, served with beer or wine.

St. Moritz & Zurich extension

Just when you thought Switzerland couldn’t get more beautiful, the Bernina Express beckons you aboard. You’ll kick off this extension with a train ride unlike any other, rolling through UNESCO-listed landscapes to elegant St. Moritz. After a stay in this luxe resort town, wrap up your trip with a couple of nights in Zurich—the country’s urban heart—and get a feel for life in this cultural hub.

St. Moritz

Day 9: Bernina Express train ride to St. Moritz

Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Leave Lugano behind and head for Tirano, a town of under 10,000 people in the northern Italian region of Lombardy. You’ll have some time to explore, and if you decide to stop for coffee, try a crema caffe. Decadently creamy, this whipped treat offsets the heat of summer days and has the same caffeine kick as a shot of espresso.

After stretching your legs, reunite with your group at Tirano’s train station and board the Bernina Express for an epic, 2.5-hour trip up the UNESCO-recognized Rhaetian Railway.

  • Cross the idyllic Val Poschiavo, winding past the towns and trees that dot the valley.
  • Chug up and through the Bernina Pass, glimpsing glacial lakes and grazing cows as you go.

At the end of the line, disembark in St. Moritz, transfer to your hotel, and join your groupmates for an included dinner, served with beer or wine.

Please note: You’ll need to present your passport when crossing from Italy to Switzerland. Also, the Bernina Express operates seasonally, from mid-May through mid-October. If it isn’t running during your tour, you’ll instead take a different local train to St. Moritz.

Zurich

Day 10: Transfer to Zurich & sightseeing tour

Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting

Later today, you’ll arrive in Zurich—but first, you have business in the town of Kilchberg, home of the Lindt chocolate factory. You’ll visit the beloved confectioner’s Home of Chocolate for a tasting of their famous truffles before hitting the road once more. (Don’t forget to pick up some treats at the Lindt shop!)

With the afternoon soon in the sky, pull into Zurich. Split by the Limmat River and flanked by its namesake lake, Switzerland’s largest city offers plenty; get an introduction with some Tour Director-led sightseeing.

  • Walk through the Altstadt, or Old Town. Until 1893, this was Zurich—the modern metropolis you see today expanded from this district in the following years.
  • Pass St. Peter’s (the oldest parish church in Zurich) and the Rathaus, or town hall. The latter exhibits a mix of Baroque and Renaissance elements not found anywhere else.

Day 11: Free day in Zurich

Included meal: Breakfast

Europe’s most powerful waterfall lies just north of Zurich—and if you add our optional excursion to your itinerary, you’ll get to see it, along with the medieval core of Schaffhausen for good measure. If you’d rather stay in Zurich, you can fill your free day museum-hopping: The city lays claim to more than 60 permanent exhibitions, including the Swiss National Museum.

Whatever you choose, you’ll come together with your fellow travelers in the evening for a farewell drink.

Flight Home

Day 12: Departure

Included meal: Breakfast (excluding early morning departures)

Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
