Southern Italy’s largest city, Naples combines old-world charm and bayside beauty in a single, lovely locale. This morning, let your Tour Director guide you on a food-themed walking tour to taste the many flavors of the Campanian capital.
- Walk through Piazza del Gesu Nuovo to view the Church of Gesu Nuovo. You’ll recognize it when you spot the unique diamond-shaped masonry of its exterior facade. Inside, it’s one of the most ornately decorated churches in Naples.
- Enter the Basilica of Santa Chiara to see its ornate cloisters, covered in bursts of colorful majolica tiles.
- Step inside the wood-paneled windows of the historic Gay-Odin chocolatier to taste its famous Vesuvio, a treat resembling the peaks of Naples’ neighboring volcano.
- Continue your tasting tour with a portable snack. Grab a cuoppo—a paper cone filled with fried, bite-sized street foods such as arancini, polenta, and croquettes.
Enjoy a free afternoon to explore Naples on your own—there’s so much more to snack on—or add our optional pizza-making class to your itinerary to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how this melty goodness comes together. (And, of course, a tasting is included.)
Gargano Region2 nights
Day 4: Gargano via Benevento & Ceppaloni
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Wine tasting
The Gargano region is home to quaint coastal towns and secluded forests. Travel to this area today, making stops in Benevento and Ceppaloni en route.
- Join a local guide for a short walk through Benevento. This city managed to survive earthquakes and World War II air raids, retaining monuments that date to Roman times, and an enduring agricultural tradition.
- Enter Santa Sofia church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and relic of Lombard architecture, founded in the eighth century. It still contains fragments of its original frescoes, even after barely surviving a pair of devastating earthquakes.
- Visit an agriturismo in Ceppaloni and enjoy sweeping views of the Sannio Hills, olive groves, and vineyards over a lunch of fresh, seasonal Campanian cuisine.
- Sample white falanghina wines from Sannio and red, tannic Taurasi from Irpinia during an expert-led tasting.
Day 5: Free day in Gargano region
Included meals: Breakfast, Wine tasting, Dinner
On your free day, you can relax on the grounds of the agriturismo or join us for an optional excursion to the shores and limestone cliffs of Vieste on the Adriatic Sea.
This evening, enjoy a tasting of wines indigenous to southern Italy, led by an expert sommelier, alongside a multi-course dinner at your agriturismo.
Lecce2 nights
Day 6: Lecce via Castel del Monte
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
Head south, to Lecce, stopping along the way for a guided tour of the UNESCO-noted Castel del Monte. Step inside the 13th-century structure, known as a masterpiece of medieval military architecture for its octagonal shape and remarkable geometric precision.
Continue to Lecce and get to know the striking seaside city, nicknamed the Florence of the South. When the sun shines—almost all the time in southern Italy—the city’s limestone buildings emanate a honey-hued glow that’s almost otherworldly. This limestone, known as pietra leccese, or Lecce stone, develops a warm patina over time that’s beloved in Italy and beyond.
- Wind through the Old Town and view the Baroque facade of the Basilica of Santa Croce. The church bears a large rose window and elaborate decorations.
- Make your way to the Piazza del Duomo to enter Lecce Cathedral, rebuilt and restored since its 12thth-century origins.
- End the day by enjoying an aperitivo at sunset and watching the pietra leccese gleam.
Day 7: Free day in Lecce
Included meal: Breakfast
Another free day, another opportunity to enjoy Lecce completely at your leisure. Wander the narrow streets of its historic center and do your best to hunt down a pasticciotto, a custard-filled pastry that’s a local favorite.
Or, you could join us for a day of wine and wonder by adding our excursion to the Salento peninsula to your itinerary. We’ll take you to Salento’s southernmost point for sparkling sea views, Art Nouveau villas, and a Pugliese lunch in a wine cellar—with accompanying vino, of course.
Itria Valley Countryside3 nights
Day 8: Itria Valley Countryside via Ostuni
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Wine tasting, Tasting
Head back north and stop in the Salento region, home to some of Italy’s finest wines. The “heel” of Italy’s boot is dominated by olive groves and vineyards that thrive in the hot Mediterranean climate.
- Visit a local winery and take a short tour of its vineyards, then sit for an included lunch and expert-guided tasting of negroamaro, primitivo, and Salice Salentino wines. See if you can taste the wine’s minerality, courtesy of the region’s limestone and clay soils.
Continue to Ostuni, also known as the White City. Whitewashed buildings line its streets, interrupted by the distant deep blue of the Adriatic Sea.
- Walk through winding, narrow streets in the Old Town to view the picturesque Ostuni Cathedral (look for its complex carvings and shimmering rose window) and historic homes, painted white to reflect the sunlight and keep their occupants cool.
- Stop at a viewpoint that overlooks the Itria Valley and Adriatic Sea. Ostuni’s hillside vantage point guarantees an epic view.
Later, travel to an agriturismo that specializes in olive production and take part in a tasting of high-end olive oils. As you note each oil’s unique fruity, peppery, or nutty flavor profile, you’ll learn what dishes pair best with which oil, the history of olive consumption, and the family-owned farm’s role in it.
Day 9: Sightseeing tour of Alberobello & cooking class
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting, Dinner
Today, a local guide will lead you on a tour of Alberobello. This town is famous for its UNESCO-recognized trulli, or traditional huts. You’ll recognize their distinctive conical roofs made of limestone.
- Enter a trullo to learn about the history and heritage of the region. These homes were built without mortar as temporary shelters for farmers, and many have been restored today to showcase the town’s cultural heritage.
- Stop at a local shop to taste a puccia, a specialty sandwich you can only find in Puglia. Crusty on the outside, soft on the inside, and sliced to hold cured meats, cheeses, or roasted vegetables, it’s as simple as it is hearty.
- Enjoy free time to explore the town—maybe wind your way to the top of the hill on the Via Monte San Michele or visit the trullo church of St. Anthony of Padua.
Return to your agriturismo for a Pugliese cooking class this evening.
- Learn how to make fresh pasta and pillowy focaccia bread, which you’ll taste alongside local olive oil and wine.
- Sit down for a three-course, farm-to-table dinner featuring regional specialties.
Day 10: Food of Bari walking tour
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting, Dinner
Dive into the history and culinary delights of Bari, the capital of the Puglia region, on a walking tour with a local guide.
- Pass by Bari Cathedral, built atop the ruins of an Imperial Byzantine church destroyed in 1156 by the Sicilian king, William the Wicked.
- Step inside the Basilica of St. Nicholas, which contains the remains of the bishop whose penchant for anonymous gift-giving inspired the legend of Santa Claus.
- See the Old Town, Swabian Castle, and Piazza del Ferrarese—Bari’s busy main square, lined with bars and restaurants.
- Enter three shops to sample locally made fare, including focaccia, burrata, and capocollo di Martina Franca.
This evening, sit down for an included dinner at your agriturismo, served with beer or wine.

Day 11: Amalfi Coast via Matera
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell lunch
En route to the Amalfi Coast, stop for a guided tour of the subterranean city of Matera. Carved into limestone outcroppings, Matera’s cave dwellings are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering a glimpse into the lives of people who’ve lived there for thousands of years. (It’s one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world!)
- Visit Sassi di Matera, the two central districts of Matera known for their 9,000-year-old cave dwellings and winding alleys.
- Stroll through the Old Town, passing Matera Cathedral and the fortification of Castello Tramontano before admiring the architecture and twin bell towers of the Palazzo del Sedile.
- Step inside the Casa Grotta di Vico Solitario and the Chiese Rupestri, or rock churches—all dug around the Early Middle Ages.

- Tour the estate’s cellars and vineyards with a local guide.
- Learn how grapes are grown in extreme conditions along the Amalfi Coast’s towering cliffs. To maximize arable land on the steep slopes, farmers construct terraces that cascade down the cliffside.
- Sit down for an included four-course lunch at the winery and enjoy a tasting of three of their most unique vintages.
This afternoon, head to the hilltop town of Ravello. You’ll walk through the stunning Moorish cloisters of Villa Rufolo, famous for its exquisite year-round gardens punctuated by umbrella pines, and admire sweeping views of the Amalfi Coast.
Day 13: Free day on the Amalfi Coast
Included meal: Breakfast
There are many ways to enjoy the Amalfi Coast, but viewing one postcard-worthy town after another from the water is our favorite. Add our optional excursion to your itinerary today to boat along the beloved coastline to view the secret jewel of the Fiordo di Furore and hillside villas that dot the limestone Monti Lattari. You’ll stop in Amalfi to sightsee and enjoy a local treat.
If you choose to spend your free day exploring on your own, you can stay in town for a little R & R before your scheduled nightcap or take the local transit to any of the neighboring towns to sightsee and stock up on limoncello.
