Nice2 nights
Day 2: Arrival in Nice
Included meal: Welcome dinner
Bonne arrivee! After clearing arrivals, transfer from the airport to your hotel to recharge. Then, get to know your Tour Director and fellow group members at a welcome dinner, served with beer or wine.
Day 3: Walking tour of Cap Ferrat & Nice
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
Kick off your first full day in Nice with a sunny, salty exploration of Cap Ferrat—a cliff-lined peninsula that juts from the French Riviera into the Mediterranean Sea.
Hike with your Tour Director down a coastal path to the Phare du Cap Ferrat, a nationally protected lighthouse destroyed during and rebuilt after World War II.
Drink in the Mediterranean scenery—emerald hills, turquoise waters, and seabirds floating in the breeze—as you walk, then end your trek with a walk on the beach (or, if you’re up for it, go for a swim).
After busing back to Nice, wrap your afternoon with a Tour Director-led walk through Cours Saleya. Smack in the middle of the Old Town, the stalls of this vibrant market burst with fresh flowers and other local specialties—you’ll snack on cheeses, zucchini flower fritters, and other favorites as you go.
Mega yachts. Movie stars. Formula 1. In Monaco, luxury reigns, and tonight’s optional excursion will give you a taste of life in the world’s second-smallest country—complete with a visit to the opulent Monte Carlo Casino. Alternatively, lay out on one of the beaches lining the Promenade des Anglais and savor the sunset.
Please note: The order of today’s activities may change depending on seasonality and weather.
Verdon Gorge Region1 night
Day 4: Verdon Gorge region via Moustiers-Sainte-Marie
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Home to just over 700 people, Moustiers-Sainte-Marie (Moustiers for short) has protected the western mouth of the Verdon Gorge for more than a millennium. Start your day by crossing the lovely Pont du Galetas and driving into town to spend some free time wandering its cobbled streets.
Then, strike out into the surrounding hills and leave your bags on the bus. You’ll follow your Tour Director on a hike to the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Beauvoir, an unassuming stone chapel squeezed between two cliffs. Look out as you walk: You’ll spot Moustiers’ famous star, strung high above the village, as well as the gorge itself.
Finally, head to a local olive grove for another guided walk before driving to your hotel by way of La Palud-sur-Verdon—a commune known for its views of the Verdon Gorge and the Lac de Sainte-Croix. Drop off your things before sitting down for a refined dinner, served with beer or wine, at La Table de Pauline. Tonight’s menu: a curated selection of Provencal dishes. Dig in, then turn in for the evening.
Avignon3 nights
Day 5: Avignon via Roussillon
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Drive west through Provence, sights set on Avignon. Before arriving, though, you’ll detour to the village of Roussillon and stretch your legs on an hour-long walk down Le Sentier des Ocres. Surrounded by a blaze of reds and yellows, this trail passes through former ochre quarries. Enjoy the moment before returning to your bus.
Sited along the Rhone River, Avignon—the City of Popes—has long sat at the confluence of history and culture. With your Tour Director leading the way, you’ll discover its architectural and artistic legacies (as well as the origins of its reverent nickname).
Spot the four remaining arches of the Pont Saint-Benezet. Though ruined in the mid-17th century, this stone bridge is a symbol of the city and inspired the children’s song “Sur le Pont d’Avignon” (“On the Bridge of Avignon”).
Walk through the very heart of Avignon’s historic center, past old streets and imposing walls, and pause outside the cavernous Papal Palace. One of the most significant medieval Gothic buildings in Europe, this UNESCO World Heritage Site brandishes fortress-like ramparts that soar more than 160 feet tall—a surefire way to protect its former residents.
Sightseeing complete, join your groupmates for an included dinner, served with beer or wine, before calling it a night.
Day 6: Sightseeing tour of Pont du Gard & Uzès
Included meal: Breakfast
Standing a short drive from Avignon, the humble commune of Vers-Pont-du-Gard lays claim to a larger-than-life attraction: a UNESCO-listed Roman aqueduct. Bus to the village with your Tour Director today and pay a visit to its most famous icon.
Spend some time at the Pont du Gard Museum, where interactive exhibits and full-scale reproductions tell the 2,000-year-old story of the aqueduct.
Walk the Pont du Gard itself. Staggered over three levels, this limestone span once ferried up to 11 million gallons of water each day to the colony of Nimes.
Follow the banks of the Gardon river to the Salpetriere Grotto, a yawning cave where hunter-gatherers lived some 19,000 years ago.
Before returning to Avignon, head further west to Uzes—a tranquil town anchored by an 11th-century castle—for a bit of free time. If you’re up for another trip (and a treat for your taste buds), add tonight’s optional excursion to delight in the wines of Chateauneuf-du-Pape.
Day 7: Walking tour of the Camargue Region
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch
The Camargue sits sandwiched between two arms of the Rhone River, and its teeming coastal wetlands support all manner of flora and fauna. Today, join a naturalist guide in the Camargue Regional Natural Park to learn more about this unique ecosystem.
Walk through the Pont de Gau Ornithological Park and keep an eye out for flamingos, herons, and more. (The Camargue is home to more than 400 avian species!)
Stop for an included lunch in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, a fishing village that has inspired luminaries like Pablo Picasso and Ernest Hemingway.
Afterward, head back to the northern edge of the Camargue to the city of Arles and enjoy a stroll along the boulevards and squares that inspired Vincent van Gogh. You’ll pass through the courtyard of the hospital where the artist stayed and by the building immortalized in his painting, “Cafe Terrace at Night,” before entering the Arles Amphitheater—a two-story Roman stadium still in use today.
Aix-en-Provence Region3 nights
Day 8: Aix-en-Provence Region via Sénanque Abbey & Gordes
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
You’ll end your day in Aix-en-Provence—but first, you’ll drive across the massifs of the Luberon Regional Natural Park and stop at Senanque Abbey. First founded in 1148, its modest stone cloisters still house a community of Cistercian monks. With a local guide, you’ll enter the abbey and learn how its monks cultivate the fragrant (and photogenic) rows of lavender that greet visitors.
Back aboard your bus, you’ll make the short trip to Gordes—a hilltop village honored as one of The Most Beautiful Villages of France—and indulge in some free time. After lunch and a spot of shopping, continue to a family-owned olive mill for a tour of its grounds. (Don’t worry: You’ll get to taste some olive oil, too!)
Finally, head to a nearby apiary, or beekeeping center, and bring your day to a sweet close. After touring its facilities, sample some of its honeys before completing the trip to Aix.
Please note: Lavender typically blooms from June to August, and though it usually peaks in the first half of July, we can’t guarantee that you’ll see any flowers, even in season. Also, if the apiary is closed, you’ll instead visit the Musee de la Lavande—a museum dedicated to the history of Provencal lavender.
Day 9: Sightseeing tour of Aix-en-Provence
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
Hugged by the limestone heights of Montagne Sainte-Victoire, Aix-en-Provence belongs on a postcard, or perhaps a portrait—something its most famous son, the post-impressionist painter Paul Cézanne, achieved during his accomplished career. Capture your own masterpieces as you follow your Tour Director on a walk through town.
Browse one of Aix’s farmers markets, pausing at some of its stalls to sample delicacies like honey, olive oil, and snap-fresh produce.
Amble through the Musee Granet and admire its exhibits. Among its collection of artwork and sculptures, you’ll find masterpieces by Cézanne, Rembrandt, and others.
Pass the cherished facade of Aix Cathedral. Combining Romanesque, Gothic, and Neo-Gothic elements, it grew into its current form over seven centuries. Nowadays, it’s honored as a national monument of France.
Bobbing boats and craggy calanques typify the village of Cassis—and if you add today’s optional outing to your itinerary, you’ll get to see it all on a cruise and coastal walk. Prefer to see more of Aix? Stroll the length of Cours Mirabeau, popping into whichever shops and cafes call your attention.
Day 10: Market tour, Sainte-Victoire hike & wine tasting
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting, Wine tasting, Farewell dinner
After seeing it from a distance, take some time this morning to appreciate the Montagne Sainte-Victoire up close. With help from a local guide, you’ll hike around the mountain and bask in sweeping views of the Provencal countryside.
Once you’ve worked up a sweat, transfer to a vineyard and cool down with an included tasting. Roses, reds—you’ll try both as a sommelier leads you through rows of grapes, explaining what makes the local vintages so good.
Finally, return to Aix and, after freshening up, join your fellow travelers for a farewell dinner. Raise an included beer or glass of wine to toast your trip before retiring for the night.
Please note: The Montagne Sainte-Victoire hike is weather-dependent and may begin in the morning to avoid extreme heat during the summer months.
Flight Home
Day 11: Departure
Included meal: Breakfast (excluding early morning departures)
Transfer to the Marseille airport for your flight home, or trade lavender fields for snowy, sparkling peaks by booking this tour’s extension to the French Alps.
French Alps extension
In Europe’s longest mountain range, soaring summits are just an introduction. The valleys and lakes of the French Alps sustain some of the country’s most sensational places—towns like canal-laced Annecy and chalet-packed Chamonix. Add this three-night escape, and you’ll discover how this winter wonderland boasts evergreen appeal.
French Alps3 nights
Day 11: French Alps via Annecy
Included meal: Breakfast
Today, travel north to the Haute-Savoie region of France and get to know the lakeside town of Annecy. Often referred to as the Venice of the Alps for its enchanting canals and pastel-hued buildings, this little slice of heaven at the northern tip of Lake Annecy epitomizes the area’s charm.
You’ll walk through Annecy’s Old Town and its fairytale maze of cobblestone streets and medieval homes with your Tour Director. Along the way, you’ll stop to peruse the stalls of the town's open-air market, overflowing with fresh fruits and vegetables. If you get a chance, make sure to try a tartiflette—a cheesy potato dish.
Finally, complete your journey to your hotel in the French Alps, where you’ll settle in for the night.
Day 12: Walking tour of Chamonix
Included meal: Breakfast
Sitting pretty at the base of Mont Blanc, Chamonix is a picture-perfect example of an Alpine resort town. Its chalets have welcomed Olympic athletes, sightseers, and pleasure-seekers alike, and today, your Tour Director will show you around.
Board the Montenvers Railway and climb to an altitude of 6,276 feet, where you’ll be greeted by the Mer de Glace—a valley-spanning glacier that runs roughly 4.5 miles long and 600 feet deep.
Set out on an hour-long, roundtrip walk from the Refuge du Montenvers hotel and fully appreciate the majesty of France’s largest glacier.
Return to Chamonix and explore at your leisure. If, after eating lunch, you have enough time, take a panoramic cable car to the top of the Aiguille du Midi for a direct view of Mont Blanc. (Be sure to buy tickets ahead of time!)
Day 13: Free day in the French Alps
Included meal: Breakfast
Haute-Savoie’s storybook landscapes include castles and canyons—and to see prime examples of both, you just need to add today’s optional outing to your itinerary.
Whether you marveled at one of the inspirations for Sleeping Beauty’s castle or unwound in the restful ambiance of the French Alps, you’ll come together as a group one final time this evening for a farewell drink.
This evening, sip a farewell drink as you celebrate your trip with your fellow group members.
Flight Home
Day 14: Departure
Included meal: Breakfast (excluding early morning departures)
Transfer to the Geneva airport for your flight home.

- If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact your destination country’s consulate for your specific entry requirements.
