If you’re into art and architecture…

Sforza Castle

Sforza Castle was built in the 15th century by the Duke of Milan. Later renovated and enlarged over the centuries, the castle now houses an impressive collection of museums and art.

Da Vinci’s Last Supper

Don’t miss the opportunity to see Leonardo da Vinci’s 15th-century mural, The Last Supper—easily one of the world’s most famous paintings. The mural is painted on the side of the Basilica di Santa Maria delle Grazie, and to see it you need to book a ticket—we recommend doing this a few months in advance.

The Duomo

For some of the best views of Milan, take a trip to the top of the Duomo. The fifth largest cathedral in Italy, it’s fairly cheap to get to the top on foot or by elevator.

If you’re into food…

Risotto

Milan is famous for its risotto, a creamy, cheesy rice dish that was dreamed up here. Milanese risotto uses only a few simple ingredients and gets its vivid yellow color from saffron.

Aperitivo

Every day from 7-9pm, Milan celebrates aperitivo—essentially a happy hour where locals indulge in appetizer buffets before eating dinner later that evening. Many cafes, bars and lounges offer buffets with plenty of small bites and cocktails. Try an Aperol spritz or a classic Negroni.
