Go solo, not alone, and smile at South Africa’s mosaic of landscapes, cultures, and wildlife.

Table Mountain. Kruger National Park. The Panorama Route. South Africa’s scenery begs you to explore, and on this Solo Tour, you’ll strike out into the bush with a crew of fellow travelers. But you won’t stop there: Between driving the Cape Peninsula and greeting the resident primates at Chimp Eden, you’ll dig into the history of a nation determined not to forget its past. Cape Town’s District Six Museum and Nelson Mandela’s home in Johannesburg’s Soweto township deliver poignant reminders of the evils of apartheid and how South Africans fought to end it. In all, this itinerary is as diverse as the country it explores—and the extension to Victoria Falls showcases another of Africa’s jewels.

Cape Town

Day 2: Arrival in Cape Town

Welcome to South Africa! Meet your Tour Director with a “howzit”—a casual greeting used throughout the country—and transfer to your hotel. You’ll touch down later in the evening, so take it easy and get some well-deserved rest.

Victoria Falls extension

Describing Victoria Falls as a UNESCO World Heritage Site doesn’t quite do it justice—but its Lozi name, The Smoke That Thunders, paints a proper picture. It’s a waterfall of truly epic proportions, one best experienced in a group. On this extension, you’ll feel its rumble and smile as it takes your (and your fellow travelers’) breath away.

Victoria Falls

Day 11: Flight to Victoria Falls

Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner

While some of your groupmates fly home, you’ll take to the skies and head for Victoria Falls. Depending on flight itineraries, you’ll either land in Zimbabwe or Zambia—but either way, a short bus transfer’s all that separates you from your hotel.

Once you check in, rest for a spell before linking back up for an included dinner, served with beer or wine.

Day 12: Sightseeing tour of Victoria Falls, Chinotimba township & Rose of Charity visit

Included meal: Breakfast

Close to 33,000 cubic feet of water flows through Victoria Falls each second, as the entirety of the Zambezi River pours over its precipice. The resulting sight is nothing short of astonishing—and on today’s guided tour, you’ll see it from multiple angles. Follow a local guide down a trail network and pause at several vantage points for those oohs and ahs. As you go, you’ll also learn about the area’s history, as well as its flora and fauna.

After wrapping up at Victoria Falls, you’ll head to the Chinotimba township, where the indigenous Nambya and Tonga have long lived. As you walk, you’ll spot traditional homes, active churches, and the local market, hearing about the village’s traditional culture all the while.

Before returning to your hotel, pay a visit to the Rose of Charity—a local nongovernmental organization dedicated to supporting local children. Discover how they work to expand education opportunities and alleviate poverty in the community, and know that your visit includes a donation to help them carry on their vital work.

To end your trip on a high note, add our optional sunset cruise to your itinerary and take to the waters of the Zambezi. Otherwise, spend a restful night in and prepare for your journey home.

Please note: The ground around Victoria Falls gets slippery, so we recommend wearing good, grippy shoes. Also, depending on flight schedules, your visit to the Chinotimba township may instead take place on day 11.
