Bergen2 nights
Day 2: Arrival in Bergen
Included meal: Welcome dinner
Welcome to Norway! After touching down, transfer to your hotel and take some time to settle in. Then, gather with your Tour Director and fellow travelers and get to know one another over a welcome dinner, served with beer or wine.
Day 3: Sightseeing tour of Bergen
Included meal: Breakfast
Join a local guide and discover the historic sites in and around Bergen, Norway’s second city and a settlement that was first founded in 1070.
- Drive to the borough of Fana and enter the wooden, medieval-style Fantoft Stave Church—a reconstruction of the original that was first built in the mid-12th century.
- Pass by Bergenhus Fortress, one of the best-preserved stone strongholds in all of Norway. Fully restored in the mid-20th century, the complex links different eras, containing buildings from medieval times and the Second World War.
- Walk through Hanseatic League-era alleyways and courtyards—and past one of the most famous photo ops in Bergen—in the UNESCO-listed Bryggen harbor district, where a series of colorful buildings line the shores of Vagen bay.
Rise above the city on tonight's optional excursion, riding the Floibanen funicular up Mount Floyen for sweeping views of Bergen, the fjords, and surrounding mountains. After taking in the panorama from 1,050 feet above sea level, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. Otherwise, explore the city on your own—if you're a music lover, make your way to Troldhaugen, the former home of composer Edvard Grieg. Set on a scenic lakeside property, this charming villa offers insight into the life of Norway's most celebrated musician, and you might even catch a concert in the intimate concert hall.
Sognefjord Region2 nights
Day 4: Transfer to the Sognefjord region
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Even from afar, the fjords that cradle Bergen are a staggering sight. Today, feel the full power of these cliff-lined inlets up close as you venture beyond the city.
- Climb aboard a train bound for Myrdal and settle into your seat as the landscape transforms—watch as the city gives way to soaring peaks, glassy lakes, and valleys carved by ancient glaciers.
- Switch to the Flam Railway, one of the steepest standard-gauge railways in the world, and descend through waterfalls, tunnels, and steep valleys into the charming fjord-side village of Flam.
- Hop on a fjord cruise from Flam to Gudvangen, gliding through the UNESCO-listed Naeroyfjord and Aurlandsfjord. Towering cliffs rise on either side, waterfalls like Sagfossen tumble from dizzying heights, and small villages dot the shoreline like storybook scenes.
Disembark in Gudvangen and continue to your hotel in the Sognefjord region. Freshen up before enjoying tonight’s included dinner with beer or wine.
Day 5: Norwegian Glacier Museum & Gaularfjellet scenic drive
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Get your fill of fjords today: Drive across Norway’s breathtaking landscapes, making a pair of stops as you do.
- Journey to the base of the Fjaerlandsfjord and visit the Norwegian Glacier Museum. Standing in a building designed by Pritzker Architecture Prize-winner Sverre Fehn, it’s the country’s leading center on glaciers and climate change. Take a self-guided tour of the museum’s interactive exhibits, then break for lunch at a nearby restaurant.
- Follow the Gaularfjellet, one of 18 Norwegian Scenic Routes. Named after the mountain that anchors it, this 70-mile drive traces a series of protected rivers, rapids, and waterfalls. Stay close to your window and marvel at the beauty of it all.
- Stop at Utsikten—Norwegian for “the view.” Located at the crest of the Vetlefjord, this concrete lookout gives you an expansive view of the canyons and mountains that typify Norway’s landscape.
- End in the fjordside town of Balestrand, then unwind during a peaceful ferry ride from Dragsvik to Hella, where you’ll meet up with your bus.
Drive to your hotel and enjoy a free evening to yourself. Tomorrow, you’ll make the journey to Oslo.
Oslo2 nights
Day 6: Transfer to Oslo
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
You’ll spend today traveling from the Sognefjord region to Oslo by bus—but don’t let that discourage you. Storybook scenery will accompany you each mile of the way; before you know it, you’ll be pulling into your hotel. After checking in, you and your group will sit down for an included dinner, served with beer or wine, before turning in for the night and resting in anticipation of tomorrow’s sightseeing.
Day 7: Sightseeing tour of Oslo
Included meal: Breakfast
First settled in the mid-10th century, modern-day Oslo is equal parts Viking heritage and cosmopolitan capital. This morning, meet up with a local guide to discover this vibrant, fjord-bound city.
- Take a tour of the Nobel Peace Center. One of the most-visited museums in all of Norway, it occupies a former railway station. Here, through a series of interactive and multimedia exhibits, you’ll learn about the laureates whose tremendous humanitarian efforts helped make the world a better place.
- Walk through Frogner Park—the largest green space in all of Oslo—and stroll among its sculpture collection. Over 200 bronze, granite, and cast-iron creations, all made by the artist Gustav Vigeland, occupy an 80-acre stretch of the park.
- Check out Mathallen Oslo, an indoor food court with more than 30 specialty vendors. Use your free time there to scope out some good eats and order your favorite for lunch.
This evening, add our optional dinner cruise to see Oslo and its neighboring fjord from a different perspective. If you’d rather forge your own path, consider visiting the Oslo Opera House and walking up its roof—yes, its roof—for panoramic views of the city. (If you’re lucky, the Norwegian National Ballet might be in season. Look up their schedule before your tour and see if you can find tickets!)
Gothenburg1 night
Day 8: Transfer to Gothenburg & sightseeing tour
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
This morning, leave Oslo and head for the Swedish border. Your destination: Gothenburg. Named the world’s most sustainable city by the Global Destination Sustainability Index seven years running, this coastal hub is a compact cultural powerhouse, crisscrossed by iconic blue trams and dotted with craft breweries and Michelin-starred restaurants. After arriving in the afternoon, meet up with a local guide for a tour.
- Begin with free time for lunch—maybe pop into a hole-in-the-wall and try typical Swedish specialties like herring or meatballs.
- Set out on a panoramic bus tour and listen as your guide shares insights that bring the city’s past to life. You’ll drive by the old customs house, a testament to Gothenburg’s maritime heritage, and learn just how far the Swedish Empire once reached. (Did you know that they once founded a colony along the Delaware River?)
- Board a tram—a driving force behind Gothenburg’s sustainable reputation—and travel with locals to Haga, one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods.
- Visit the neo-Gothic Haga Church, then walk to the Raoul Wallenberg Monument. This simple bronze-and-concrete memorial remembers one of Gothenburg’s most famous children, a Swedish diplomat who saved thousands of Hungarian Jews during the Holocaust.
- Walk through Haga’s charming pedestrian district, lined with wooden houses and cozy cafes, before capping your afternoon with a traditional Swedish fika—a relaxing afternoon coffee and pastry.
Return by bus to your hotel, then take it easy. Tomorrow, you’ll travel to Copenhagen, Denmark, via the storybook grounds of Kronborg Castle.
Please note: Travelers should be prepared to walk for two hours through Haga and use public transit.
Copenhagen3 nights
Day 9: Copenhagen via Kronborg Castle
Included meal: Breakfast
Follow Sweden’s western coast to Helsingborg, a pearl of a city sitting at the narrowest part of the Oresund strait. Drive aboard a ferry, then stretch your legs in the ship’s lounge as you make the short trip to Helsingør, Denmark. After docking, hop back on your bus and set a course for Copenhagen, stopping at a legendary literary destination en route.
Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kronborg Castle is considered one of the most important Renaissance fortifications in Northern Europe. But avid readers may know it by another name—Elsinore. William Shakespeare referred to Kronborg by that name in his famous play, Hamlet, and today, you’ll take a guided tour of its hallowed grounds, learning all about its rich history and architectural splendor.
Afterward, make the final leg of your journey to Copenhagen, where you’ll check into your hotel and have the rest of the day to yourself.
Day 10: Sightseeing tour of Copenhagen
Included meal: Breakfast
Rich in parks, whimsical architecture, and inventive eateries, coastal Copenhagen is proper Danish dynamite. With your Tour Director leading the way, get to know the city via its most famous sites. (And look out for cyclists—locals love to pedal around their colorful city!)
- Stop for photos outside the 16th-century Rosenborg Castle, a royal residence built in the Dutch Renaissance style.
- View the iconic Little Mermaid statue, commemorating one of Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen’s most famous fairy tales, and marvel at the wharfside homes and stores of the beautifully preserved Nyhavn district.
- Pass by a pair of palaces: the rococo Amalienborg, official home of the Danish royal family, and the neo-baroque Christiansborg, site of the national parliament.
See Copenhagen from a different perspective on today's excursion, a scenic canal cruise followed by dinner. Glide past colorful Nyhavn, the Little Mermaid statue, and historic waterfront palaces before enjoying a meal at a local restaurant. Not interested in life on the water? Take a walk through Sondermarken. On the surface, this green space is your typical European park; below ground, though, you'll find the Cisternerne, a reservoir-turned-art exhibit that serves as an extension of the nearby Frederiksberg Museums.
Day 11: Free day in Copenhagen & farewell dinner
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell dinner
You’ve explored contemporary Copenhagen and touched on its medieval past—so why not dive into Denmark’s Viking history? Do just that on your free day by adding an afternoon excursion to Roskilde, a former capital of the country and a hub for ancient seafarers. If you’d rather stay in town, check out the National Museum of Denmark to see how the country’s culture has transformed over the centuries. Or, go to the Kastellet. Standing sentinel over the Oresund strait, this star-shaped fortress lies a half-hour’s walk from Rosenborg Castle.
This evening, celebrate your trip with your group during a farewell dinner, served with beer or wine.
Flight Home
Day 12: Departure
Included meal: Breakfast (excluding early morning departures)
Say goodbye to Scandinavia as you transfer to the airport for your flight home. Not ready to leave? Extend your trip to Reykjavik, Iceland—the heart of the Land of Fire and Ice.
Iceland extension
Echoes of the Vikings sound across tiny Iceland, from the language spoken in cities like Reykjavik to the landscapes that define the Golden Circle. As you venture from the dignified grounds of the Hofdi to the wild waters of the Gullfoss, you’ll tune into the island’s unique take on Nordic culture. And maybe, you’ll understand why this land of volcanic highs and frigid lows appeals to so many people.
Reykjavik3 nights
Day 12: Flight to Reykjavik & sightseeing tour
Included meal: Breakfast
Clean, green Reykjavik is part cosmopolitan capital, part Scandinavian fishing port. Fly to this one-of-a-kind city this morning, then take to its streets with your Tour Director during a guided sightseeing tour.
- See the stately Hofdi—the house that hosted the 1986 summit between Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev—before continuing to Bessastadir. Distinguished by its rich, clay-colored roofing and simple, yet dignified, exterior, this home serves as the official residence of Iceland’s president.
- Head to Midborg, the downtown neighborhood more simply known as the 101, to visit the Hallgrimskirkja. Reaching almost 245 feet into the sky at its peak, this church is one of the tallest buildings in the city—and with its breathtaking curved spire, it’s one of the most distinct, too.
- Pass the Althingishusid, home of the national parliament, and the lakeside City Hall before stopping at the National Gallery of Iceland to view the work of renowned local artists like Ásmundur Sveinsson and Einar Jónsson.
Afterward, board your bus and transfer to your hotel. Spend some time settling in, then choose to spend the evening how you’d like.
Please note: Based on flight availability for some departures, the sightseeing tour of Reykjavik may take place on the morning of day 13.
Day 13: Free day in Reykjavik
Included meal: Breakfast
Head into Reykjavik on your own today. If you’re feeling peckish, check out Hlemmur Matholl, a bus-station-turned-food-hall serving everything from Italian gelato to Danish smorrebrod.
Alternatively, add an excursion—and what better way to unwind than with a soak in the Blue Lagoon? The milky waters of this geothermal bath are prized for their restorative properties; go for a float and let them ease whatever tension you carry.
Please note: Based on flight availability for some departures, the sightseeing tour of Reykjavik may take place this morning.
Day 14: The Golden Circle
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Running for 190 miles across pristine landscapes, the Golden Circle encompasses some of Iceland’s most magnificent natural wonders. Today, you’ll board your bus and drive some of this famous route.
- Begin at the UNESCO-listed Thingvellir National Park, a 92-square-mile tract of volcanic rock and golden scrubland. You’ll see the original site of the Althing, an open-air governmental assembly that was established in 930 and continued to meet until 1798.
- Sit down for an included lunch at Fridheimar, a farm that grows tantalizingly fresh tomatoes and other produce in a greenhouse heated by geothermal energy.
- Enter the Haukadalur, a valley teeming with geothermal activity, and explore the area surrounding the Great Geysir. You could say it’s the original Old Faithful: After all, the English word “geyser” is derived from its name. While it hasn’t erupted since 2016, its nearby cousin, Strokkur, hasn’t stopped, spouting into the air every five to 10 minutes.
- Marvel at Gullfoss, the Golden Waterfall that ranks as one of the most powerful in all of Europe. Some say its name comes from the legend of a Viking who dumped his treasure into its churning waters; others, the way the light catches the mist steaming off the cascade. Either way, it’s a sight to behold.
With your final day on tour in the books, transfer back to Reykjavik to relax at your hotel and prepare for tomorrow’s flight.
Flight Home
Day 15: Departure

You can cut back on generating waste by packing your own toiletries, using electronic documents, and recycling any paper and plastic you may use. Reusable shopping bags and other containers are always good to bring—and on this tour, we’ll provide you with a reusable water bottle.
- On this tour, we recommend the use of a reusable water bottle, as the local drinking water is safe for travelers or potable water is provided on the bus and/or hotel. Make sure to bring a reusable water bottle to cut down on single use plastics.
- When visiting national parks, reserves, or other protected areas, please do not remove anything from the natural environment or leave any litter. Carry out what you carried in.
- If you feel we aren’t meeting any of these commitments, please let us know.
