Lake Maggiore Region3 nights
Day 2: Arrival in Milan & transfer to the Lake Maggiore region
Included meal: Welcome dinner
Welcome to Italy! Touch down in Milan and set off on a scenic drive to the Lake Maggiore region, where the postcard-perfect village of Stresa rests along the water’s edge. With the Alps rising in the distance and the lake shimmering at your doorstep, it’s a serene beginning to your Italian adventure. Settle into your hotel, then toast the journey ahead over a welcome dinner with your Tour Director and fellow travelers—beer or wine in hand.
Day 3: Sightseeing tour of the Borromean Islands
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Spend the day exploring the Borromean Islands—a storybook trio floating on the western arm of Lake Maggiore and long considered the crown jewels of northern Italy. Each island has its own personality, blending aristocratic elegance with lush natural beauty. Depart Stresa by boat and let the lake breeze carry you between these enchanting shores.
- Begin on Isola Bella, the showstopper of the archipelago. Join a guided tour of its lavish Baroque palace—once the Borromeo family’s summer escape—where grand salons, gilded stucco, and centuries of history await.
- Step into the terraced gardens—an 18th-century wonder of symmetry and surprise—where white peacocks strut among exotic blooms and sculpted hedges.
- Savor an included lunch on Isola Bella, with time to linger over lakeside views that have charmed travelers for centuries.
- Continue to Isola Madre, the largest of the islands and a peaceful oasis famed for its botanical gardens. Wander at your own pace through a world of camellias, magnolias, and rare plant species, some so old they’ve seen the rise and fall of entire empires.
Day 4: Free day in the Lake Maggiore region
Included meal: Breakfast
Your day, your Lake Maggiore. Use your free time to glide along Stresa’s promenade, where Belle Epoque villas wink from behind wrought-iron gates and cafe tables catch the afternoon sun. Duck into chic boutiques or trade the buzz for the leafy calm of Villa Pallavicino Park—roses in bloom, peacocks on parade, and a menagerie tucked between manicured lawns.
Want to venture further? Join today’s optional excursion to Lake Orta, a serene gem dotted with a single, tiny island. Pass rolling countryside to reach its mirrorlike waters, then follow cobbled lanes up to Sacro Monte di Orta, a hilltop sanctuary strung with frescoed chapels and panoramic views that beg for a deep breath and a long pause to take in its astounding beauty.
Lake Garda Region2 nights
Day 5: Lake Garda region via Monza
Included meal: Breakfast
Today, trade one shimmering lake for another as you make for Lake Garda—its waters so clear they mirror the sky, its shores dotted with medieval villages and citrus groves. En route, stop in Monza, where emperors once came to claim their crowns. Inside Theodelinda’s Chapel in the Monza Cathedral, stand before the Iron Crown of Lombardy—believed to hold iron from the nails of the Crucifixion. Charlemagne, Napoleon, and generations of Holy Roman Emperors wore it at their coronations, leaving behind a legacy as enduring as the crown’s gold and jewels.
After your visit, continue to your hotel in Lake Garda. Upon arrival, the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at your leisure. Whether you choose to take a lakeside stroll, sip a spritz on a terrace, or treat yourself to the hotel’s spa, it’s the perfect opportunity to unwind and soak up the atmosphere of this beloved destination.
Day 6: Lemon farm visit
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
Thanks to its rare microclimate, Lake Garda is one of the few places north of Naples where citrus groves flourish—and this morning, you’ll step right into that sunny tradition at a working lemon farm.
- Wander between fragrant rows of lemon trees as your guide shares how cultivation here began in the 13th century, when the fruit was prized as both a medicine and a luxury.
- Step inside historic lemon houses—ingeniously built into the rocky shoreline—designed to shield the delicate trees from winter winds.
- Finish with a tasting straight from the source: tangy marmalades, candied peels, and the farm’s own limoncello, each a distillation of Lake Garda’s bright, bold flavor.
The rest of the day is yours—whether that means lakeside lounging or enjoying the amenities at your hotel. Or, add on this afternoon’s excursion to cruise along Lake Garda, circling the picturesque Sirmio peninsula, known for its Roman ruins and thermal springs. The excursion concludes with an included dinner of local specialties.
The Dolomites 3 nights
Day 7: Dolomites region via Trento
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Leave the sunlit shores of Lake Garda behind as the road climbs toward the jagged silhouettes of the Dolomites. On the way, pause in Trento—a city where Alpine and Italian cultures meet in a tapestry of history, art, and architecture.
- Step through the gates of Castello del Buonconsiglio, a 13th-century fortress that once served as the seat of the Prince-Bishops of Trento.
- Wander echoing halls and elegant courtyards, where Renaissance renovations brought Italianate gardens and frescoes alive with color and storytelling. Look closely—you might spot entire scenes from medieval life unfolding on the walls.
- After your guided tour, follow the hum of conversation to the Piazza del Duomo di Trento, a lively square framed by centuries-old palazzi and the town’s Romanesque cathedral. Take your pick of cafes or trattorias for lunch, with tables spilling onto cobblestones warmed by the afternoon sun.
From here, the scenery turns cinematic: craggy limestone peaks, deep valleys carpeted in meadows, and the kind of clear mountain air that makes every color pop. By late afternoon, arrive in the Brixen region of the Dolomites, where your alpine hotel blends chalet coziness with spectacular views. You’re now in South Tyrol—a corner of Italy that feels distinct from the rest of the country. German is widely spoken, menus come in three languages, and the architecture leans more Austrian than Italian, with timbered facades and flower-box balconies. Settle in, then gather with your fellow travelers for an included dinner, served with beer or wine.
Day 8: Sightseeing tour of Brixen
Included meal: Breakfast
Brixen—also known as Bressanone—sits at the crossroads of cultures, where Italian warmth meets Austrian precision. As the oldest town in South Tyrol, it has worn many crowns: Roman outpost, medieval bishopric, and Habsburg stronghold. This morning, you’ll uncover its layered past with a local guide leading the way.
- Begin in the Old Town, where pastel facades and arcaded streets whisper of Austro-Hungarian elegance. Listen for the echo of centuries in the cobblestones as you pass shops selling alpine cheeses beside Italian espresso bars.
- Step inside the Hofburg Museum, once the opulent residence of the prince-bishops who ruled both spiritually and politically. Inside, Renaissance halls and Baroque chambers display sacred art, ornate furnishings, and centuries-old manuscripts—a visual diary of the town’s power and prestige.
- Slip into the Bishop’s Garden, a walled haven of manicured lawns, fragrant flowerbeds, and shady benches, offering a pause from the bustle beyond the gates.
Break for lunch near the cathedral square, where Gothic spires frame a lively scene of locals chatting over knodel (the pillowy local dumpling) and glasses of crisp Muller-Thurgau wine.
The afternoon is yours: follow the Isarco River along leafy walking paths or linger in town with another coffee and slice of apple strudel. If you choose, join the optional excursion to Novacella Abbey, founded in 1142 by Augustinian canons. One of the oldest working monasteries in Europe, it still tends its vineyards today—and your visit ends with a tasting of its prized wines, the same varietals cultivated here for nearly nine centuries.
Day 9: Free day in the Dolomites region
Included meal: Breakfast
Want to get eye-to-eye with the Dolomites? Join today’s can’t-miss excursion to Kronplatz, where a swooping cable car whisks you up to the summit—hello, 360-degree mountain views! At the top, step into a world where the scenery steals the show and the culture keeps pace. Visit mountaintop museums like the Messner Mountain Museum, which relates tales of alpine daring and climbing life—all framed by jaw-dropping peaks that look close enough to touch.
If you’re spending the day at your own pace, consider visiting the Loden Museum to learn about the region’s traditional wool production or catch up on rest back at your hotel.
Vicenza3 nights
Day 10: Vicenza via Bassano del Grappa
Included meals: Breakfast, Liquor tasting, Dinner
Before reaching Vicenza, pause in Bassano del Grappa, a picturesque town where Alpine foothills meet Venetian charm and a centuries-old grappa-making tradition still thrives.
- Start with free time for lunch in the bustling town center, where sun-dappled piazzas and pastel-colored buildings invite you to linger over local specialties.
- Follow your Tour Director on a stroll through historic streets, passing artisan shops and medieval bridges, and soak up the town’s lively, yet intimate atmosphere.
- Visit the Poli Grappa Museum to uncover the history and craft behind this iconic Italian spirit, from grape-pressing to distillation, and discover why Bassano has been a grappa hub for generations.
- Stop at the Nardini Distillery, one of Italy’s oldest grappa houses, to toast the region’s legacy with a tasting of their famed spirit—fiery, aromatic, and utterly unforgettable.
Then, continue to Vicenza, a city where elegance whispers from every corner. Often overshadowed by Venice’s grand canals, Vicenza is a treasure trove of Renaissance architecture, shaped by the visionary Andrea Palladio. Here, palazzi, theaters, and villas reveal the artistry of the 16th century, offering a quieter, more contemplative journey into Italian history and design. Wrap up the day at your hotel and gather with your group for an included dinner, served with beer or wine.
Day 11: Sightseeing tour of Vicenza
Included meal: Breakfast
Vicenza is more than elegant—it’s a living portfolio of Renaissance genius. Today, you’ll walk the same streets that inspired Palladio, the 16th-century architect whose vision shaped not just this city, but the very language of classical design around the world.
- Meet your local guide and begin a walking tour through Vicenza’s historic center, where symmetry, proportion, and grace aren’t just ideals—they’re built into every archway and piazza.
- Learn how Palladio’s influence stretched far beyond Italy, inspiring buildings from English manors to the U.S. Capitol. His designs weren’t just beautiful—they were revolutionary, blending ancient Roman principles with a human scale.
- Step inside the Basilica Palladiana, a gleaming white landmark with soaring loggias and the first-ever Venetian window—a bold architectural move that marked a turning point in Renaissance design.
- Continue to the Teatro Olimpico, Palladio’s final masterpiece. Its illusionistic stage creates a forced perspective so convincing, it tricks the eye into seeing a cityscape that stretches far beyond the walls. It’s the world’s first indoor masonry theater—and still one of the most breathtaking.
- Return to the town center for lunch, surrounded by Renaissance facades and graceful piazzas that invite you to stay a while and feel the quiet power of a city built on beauty and balance.
Day 12: Free day in Vicenza & farewell dinner
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell dinner
On your final day in Vicenza, choose how you’d like to spend your time—whether diving deeper into the region’s culture or enjoying a relaxed pace before your journey winds down. For a memorable experience, add on today’s excursion to Italy’s Prosecco region, where you’ll visit a 17th-century wine villa surrounded by rolling vineyards. Tour the historic cellars and learn about the production of Italy’s beloved sparkling wine before enjoying a tasting of Prosecco in a picturesque setting.
If you prefer to stay local, consider a visit to Villa La Rotonda, one of Palladio’s most iconic works, known for its perfect symmetry and hilltop views. Or, take advantage of your last few hours in the city with some souvenir shopping—Vicenza is especially known for its fine gold jewelry.
Whatever you choose, you’ll regroup tonight to celebrate your journey during a farewell dinner, served with beer or wine.
Flight Home
Day 13: Departure
Included meal: Breakfast (excluding early morning departures)
Transfer to the Venice airport to board your flight home—or extend your stay with a visit to nearby Verona, a city of romance, history, and timeless charm.
Verona extension
In Verona, love is truly in the air. This is a city where ancient amphitheaters host summer operas under the stars, and quiet alleyways open into sunlit piazzas buzzing with clinking espresso cups and the scent of fresh basil. You’ll climb the steps to Juliet’s balcony, yes—but you’ll also feel the heartbeat of a place that’s been wooing poets, painters, and travelers for centuries.
Verona2 nights
Day 13: Transfer to Verona & sightseeing tour
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
It’s easy to fall in love in—and with—Verona. (With its maze of ancient Romanesque, Gothic, and Byzantine architecture, tucked into the bends of the Adige River, no wonder it served as the backdrop for “Romeo and Juliet”!) After a scenic drive, join your Tour Director for a walk through its UNESCO-recognized city center.
- Imagine your own “Oh, Romeo, Romeo” moment with a visit to Casa di Giulietta, the site of the famous balcony built in honor of Shakespeare’s ill-fated lovers.
- Soak in the history of the oldest square in Verona, Piazza delle Erbe. Then, explore the less-crowded Gothic confines of Piazza Dante—named for Dante Alighieri, the Italian poet who penned the “Divine Comedy.”
- Marvel at the pink-and-white stone walls of the Verona Arena. Still in use today, this 2,000-year-old stadium has witnessed gladiator battles, opera productions, and modern concerts.
- Try a tramezzino, a specialty from the Veneto region similar to English tea sandwiches.
After exploring more of the city in your free time, head to your hotel with your group and settle in for the evening.
Day 14: Free day in Verona
Included meal: Breakfast
How will you spend your last day in Italy? If you add the optional excursion to Mantua, a UNESCO-listed gem where Renaissance splendor comes alive, you’ll discover the story of Isabella d’Este—the era’s most influential art patron—and see how her vision shaped the city’s culture.
Or, linger in Verona and hop aboard the Trenino Turistico, the charming Little Tourist Train, for a 25-minute spin past the city’s highlights. When you step off, follow whatever caught your eye—sunlit piazzas, hidden alleyways, or a cafe that smells like the perfect farewell to Italy.
This evening, enjoy a farewell drink as you celebrate your trip with your fellow group members.
