Barcelona3 nights
Day 2: Arrival in Barcelona
Included meal: Welcome dinner
Welcome to Spain! Need a little pick-me-up when you arrive? Dive right into Spanish culture by trying tapas, or shareable small plates, like croquetas—crispy, deep-fried rolls with a crunchy exterior and a savory, gooey interior. Wash it all down with an orxata—a sweet, milky drink known as horchata to the broader world but made with tiger nuts in Spain.
Tonight, meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers at a welcome dinner, served with beer or wine.
Day 3: Sightseeing tour of Barcelona
Included meal: Breakfast
You don’t have to be an architecture fan to enjoy Barcelona, but you may just leave as one. Roman ruins, Gothic drama, and soaring odes to modernism fill the city with unparalleled landmarks, many of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
- Venture to Montjuic, the hill overlooking Barcelona and site of the 1992 Olympic Games. At the Mirador de l’Alcalde, breathe in panoramic views of the city, the harbor, and beyond, perfumed by a Mediterranean breeze and the surrounding gardens.
- Pass through the grandeur of the Placa d’Espanya, a hub of Catalan culture. Look for a pair of towers, inspired by the campaniles of Venice, and a classically styled fountain at the center of it all.
- Immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring beauty of the Sagrada Familia, a testament to Gaudí’s genius. Inside, marvel at the intricate details and stained glass that bathe the space in bursts of color.
- Drive along Passeig de Gracia, where you’ll encounter Gaudí’s House of Bones (Casa Batllo) and Casa Mila. Feel the pulse of the city as you traverse Barcelona and see how architectural modernism interacts with everyday life.
For more time with Gaudí’s creative genius, we recommend joining the optional excursion to Park Guell, where your eyes will joyfully bounce from colorful mosaics to whimsical residential rooftops. Savor every tiny detail in the stonework—you never know what surprises you’ll uncover when you take your time.
If you’d prefer to wind through Barcelona on your own, trade beach time for winter-in-the-city: Stroll the Gothic Quarter and Passeig de Gracia under festive lights and elegant window displays, then warm up with thick hot chocolate and churros. Or, head indoors to browse the covered stalls at Santa Caterina Market.
Please note: On select departures during peak travel season, entrance to the Sagrada Familia may be replaced with entrance to the Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau, a hospital-turned-public-art-space designed in the whimsical Catalan modernist style.
Day 4: Free day in Barcelona
Included meal: Breakfast
Forge your own perfect day in Barcelona—either by exploring solo or adding one or both of our curated excursions to your itinerary.
If it’s cascading valleys and mountain views you’re after, opt for our journey to Montserrat. You’ll ride a high-flying cable car to the Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey; on a clear day, you can glimpse the Pyrenees mountains in the distance. For an opportunity to try your hand at Catalan cuisine, join our cooking class in the Gothic Quarter this evening.
If you choose to spend your free day enjoying Barcelona on your own, check in on the Gothic Quarter and walk its narrow medieval streets. You’ll find charming squares like the Placa del Rei and spot Barcelona Cathedral, a masterpiece of Catalan Gothic architecture built between the 13th and 15th centuries.
Madrid3 nights
Day 5: Train to Madrid & sightseeing tour
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Journey by high-speed train to Spain’s capital, Madrid, a bustling city latticed with elegant boulevards and blanketed with vast manicured parks. Join a local guide and trace its path from a small medieval town into a 16th-century powerhouse.
- View the Royal Palace, Spain’s largest royal residence and a Baroque stunner complete with grand facades and sprawling gardens.
- Take a panoramic bus tour highlighting Madrid’s most famous squares. Pass Plaza Colon, named for Christopher Columbus, before rolling by Plaza Cibeles and Plaza de Neptuno, each one a masterclass in Spanish grandeur and home to iconic fountains.

Sit down for an included dinner this evening, served with beer or wine.

Day 6: New Year’s Eve celebration in Madrid
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Enjoy a gentler start to your day and get ready for an exciting evening. Catch up on rest before the big night or check out the lively streets of Malasana, one of the city’s trendiest neighborhoods. Go for the bohemian charm, eclectic shopping, and street art.
Tonight, soak up the local ambiance as you stroll through the illuminated streets of Madrid. Then, enjoy traditional Castilian fare and live tuna music as you celebrate New Year’s Eve at one of the oldest restaurants in the city. After dinner, you can return to your hotel or join fellow revelers in ringing in the new year. Ask your Tour Director for a recommendation or make a beeline for the Puerta del Sol to watch the countdown—and don’t forget to pick up your dozen grapes and eat them as the clock hurries towards midnight. Feliz ano nuevo!
Day 7: Free day in Madrid
Included meal: Breakfast
You have a free day in Madrid today. Lean on your Tour Director for recommendations: While many shops and attractions close their doors on New Year’s Day, you can stroll through sleepy streets or Retiro Park without the crowds.
Seville2 nights
Day 8: Seville via Córdoba & olive oil farm
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
Ride a high-speed train to Cordoba, an ancient town that was once home to 700 mosques, 900 public baths, and 70 libraries. Then, discover some of the flavors and history of Andalusia.
- Enter the Mezquita-Catedral de Cordoba, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in the eighth century as a mosque and then converted into a cathedral during the Reconquista. See its stunning arches, intricate mosaics, and peaceful courtyard.
- Join a local guide for a tour of an olive farm’s groves, mill, and cellar to learn about the delicate process of harvesting the fruit and pressing them for oil.
- Sample the unexpected flavor combination of orange-infused olive oil drizzled over a scoop of chocolate gelato. (Don’t worry: You’ll have time to shop for tasty souvenirs to bring home!)
Tonight, treat yourself to an optional excursion to watch a heart-stopping, soul-stirring flamenco show. This expressive art form combines flamboyant singing, dancing, and clapping—it’s even been recognized by UNESCO as one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
If you’d like to spend your free evening on your own, you can begin exploring the picturesque buildings and elegant patios of the Barrio de Santa Cruz before you see them on your guided tour tomorrow.
Day 9: Sightseeing tour of Seville
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell dinner
Uncover the beauty of Seville—Andalusia’s capital city—on a guided sightseeing tour of its historic churches and Moorish buildings.
- View the tiled pavilion of the Plaza de Espana—a massive, semi-circular brick structure built in the Renaissance and neo-Moorish styles for the 1929 Ibero-American Exhibition.
- Pass the whitewashed homes of the Barrio de Santa Cruz, a popular neighborhood known for its cobblestone streets, narrow alleys, and tiled benches.
- Enter Seville Cathedral, one of the largest Gothic churches in the world. Awesome in scale, this 16th-century architectural marvel also contains artworks by Goya and Murillo, as well as an enormous and richly decorated central altarpiece.
- Enter the Royal Alcazar, a palace that was once home to the Catholic Monarchs King Ferdinand II and Queen Isabella I.
Celebrate your trip with your group members at a farewell dinner, served with beer or wine.
Please note: You should have confirm your passport information at least 30 days prior to departure to ensure we can secure tickets to the Royal Alcazar.

Granada1 night
Day 10: Granada via Ronda

- View the staggering Puente Nuevo, an 18th-century bridge that spans a deep gorge.
- Walk by Mondragon Palace and enter Casa Don Bosco, a historic home with beautiful views over the surrounding countryside.
Then, continue to Granada.
Costa del Sol2 nights
Day 11: Sightseeing tour of the Alhambra & transfer to Costa del Sol
Included meal: Breakfast
Head toward Granada, where you’ll take a guided tour of the UNESCO-recognized Alhambra, the Moorish sultans’ last stronghold in Spain. The massive fortress complex is an important relic of Islamic rule in the region—it fell to the Catholic Monarchs in 1492—and that history is evident in the city’s architecture, culture, and traditions.
- Walk along the Promenade of the Cypress Trees to view the Generalife, the former gardens and summer palace of Spain’s Nasrid rulers.
- View the uniquely curved, Roman-style courtyard inside the Palace of Charles V, another holdover from the Nasrid dynasty.
- Admire the blend of Western art and Islamic design as you stroll through ornamented courtyards bursting with myrtle bushes, roses, orange trees, and aromatic herbs—all planted so that the gardens remain colorful and fragrant throughout the year.
- Enter the Nasrid Palaces and see the Mexuar, the hall where the Sultan would meet with his council and subjects. Look for quintessential Moorish elements like stucco work, geometric patterns, and ornamented vaulting in the stalactite-like ceiling.
- See where the royal family lived during visits to Comares Palace and the Court of the Lions.
After, head to the Costa del Sol, a stretch of fashionable towns and beaches hugging the Mediterranean.
Please note: The order of activities is subject to change. Furthermore, you should confirm your passport information at least 90 days prior to departure to ensure we can secure tickets to the Alhambra.
Day 12: Free day on Costa del Sol
Included meal: Breakfast
Spend a free day on the Costa del Sol. You can unwind at your hotel and catch up on rest, or go for a breezy beachside stroll. Tuck into a chiringuito, or beach bar: It’s the perfect place to satisfy a seafood craving via a hearty paella or espeto de sardinas—sardines grilled on a skewer.
If you’d like, join us for an optional excursion to the edge of the world—at least from this vantage point—to Gibraltar. Panoramic views, sometimes all the way to Africa, are interrupted only by migratory birds enjoying a rest on the Rock of Gibraltar.
This evening, enjoy a farewell drink as you celebrate your trip with your fellow group members.

Physical Activity Level
This is a moderate physical activity-level tour. You can expect casual walks and plenty of time to explore throughout the course of the tour.
Tour Pacing
This is a steady-paced tour. The pace of a tour itinerary considers how often you’ll switch hotels, the amount of planned daily activities, and how you’ll get from place to place. You can expect:
- 3 full days of included activities in a row (more if you add excursions)

- Travelers should be healthy enough to participate in all included walks without assistance.
- Please Note: Adding optional excursions may increase the total amount of walking on your tour.
Climate Considerations
- In the winter months (December–January), Spain settles into a cool and mild rhythm, with temperatures across Madrid, Barcelona, and Seville generally ranging from the mid-40s to the low 60s F.
- Seville and Barcelona tend to stay on the milder end of the spectrum, while Madrid's elevated position on the Castilian plateau can bring sharper, colder days.
- For travelers adding on the extension to Granada and the Costa del Sol, expect similarly mild temperatures, with Granada's proximity to the Sierra Nevada mountains bringing noticeably cooler—and occasionally frosty—evenings.
