London3 nights
Day 2: Arrival in London
Included meal: Welcome dinner
Welcome to England! After touching down at London Heathrow Airport—one of the busiest international passenger terminals in the world—transfer to your hotel and unwind. Later in the evening, meet up with your Tour Director and fellow travelers and get to know one another over a welcome dinner, served with beer or wine.
Day 3: Sightseeing tour of London
Included meal: Breakfast
London’s been settled for almost 2,000 years, and its history winds through Roman, Anglo-Saxon, and Viking rule. Today’s guided tour will take you through the relics, landmarks, and stories of this cosmopolitan city of contrasts.
- Pass stately Trafalgar Square—a popular public plaza surrounded by museums, galleries, and historic buildings—and St. Paul’s Cathedral. Sat atop Ludgate Hill at the highest point of the City of London neighborhood, this baroque Anglican church dates to the 17th century and has hosted state funerals and royal jubilees over the years.
- See Westminster Abbey, one of London’s four UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Since its consecration in 1065, it’s seen 16 royal weddings and the coronation of 40 monarchs, and serves as the final resting place of 18 British rulers.
- Catch a glimpse of skyline standards like the Elizabeth Tower (the clock tower known as Big Ben) and the London Eye observation wheel. Then, take some time to marvel at the Tower of London—a historic castle that has functioned as a royal palace and prison and is now home to the Crown Jewels.
- Stop by Buckingham Palace—the official residence of the ruling monarch since Queen Victoria first called it home in 1837.
From there, depart for an optional, expert-led tour of the longest-inhabited castle on the planet. Or, enjoy a free afternoon in London proper. The 350-acre Hyde Park is a little over a half mile from Buckingham Palace; make the walk and roam its grassy fields, or maybe even rent a boat for a leisurely row on The Serpentine.
Day 4: Free day in London
Included meal: Breakfast
England’s past is fully present on today’s optional excursion, from prehistoric Stonehenge to the erudite city of Oxford. If London still calls to you, hang back and eat your way through Borough Market, a massive food hall in the shadow of London Bridge.
Paris3 nights
Day 5: Eurostar train ride to Paris
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Make your way to St. Pancras International, a bustling railway station and cultural hub in central London. There, board a high-speed Eurostar train, which will whisk you under the English Channel to Paris’ Gare du Nord station.
This evening, join your group at a local restaurant for an included dinner, served with beer or wine.
Please note: You should be prepared for an early morning train departure. Also, porterage isn’t included for train transfers. You must be comfortable lifting and carrying all luggage over steps, onto platforms, and into storage.
Day 6: Sightseeing tour of Paris
Included meal: Breakfast
Ready to be dazzled by the City of Light? Begin your first full day in France with a tour of its splendid capital, Paris. With a local guide leading the way, you’ll get an overview of its most recognizable landmarks and a feel for the character of its arrondissements. (That’s French for “districts,” and it’s how Parisians refer to the city’s neighborhoods.)
- Drive down the sycamore-lined Avenue des Champs-Elysees—an icon of France that’s lined with majestic monuments, glitzy restaurants, and glamorous storefronts.
- Take in the magnificent Arc de Triomphe, originally built to commemorate one of Napoleon’s many conquests. A dozen different avenues spoke off this epic arch like a bicycle wheel, making it Paris’ symbolic heart.
- Pass the 16th-century Pont Neuf, the oldest stone bridge in Paris, and Notre-Dame Cathedral. Watching over its arrondissement from an island in the Seine River, this French Gothic masterwork is one of the city’s enduring sights. A 2019 fire devastated the structure, but after restoration work, the cathedral is open once again.
- Make a photo stop at the Eiffel Tower before viewing the Palais Garnier opera house and the Place de la Concorde, the city’s grandest square.
- Spot the I.M. Pei-designed Louvre Pyramid—the glass gateway to the world’s preeminent art museum. Then, marvel at Les Invalides: Erected in the 17th century and built to a height of roughly 350 feet, this gold-domed structure is the largest church building in all of Paris and serves as the final resting place of its greatest military leaders.
If you need a break from the buzz of this electric city, seek royal refuge by adding an afternoon outing to the Palace and Gardens of Versailles. You’ll encounter gilded walkways, fresco-adorned ceilings, and close to 2,000 acres of immaculate green space—all just a few miles west of Paris. Prefer to stay in town? Take a stroll through Montmartre’s art-filled streets to peek into artists’ studios.
Day 7: Free day in Paris
Included meal: Breakfast
On this free day, you might want to pay a visit to one of Paris’ many stellar museums. Take your pick from the Louvre, the Musee d’Orsay, or the Musee de l’Orangerie. There are dozens more that appeal to every taste, dedicated to everything from photography and hunting to even the city’s sewers. We’ve also planned a pair of excursions to make the most of your time. Add one or both to your itinerary!
Claude Monet once said, “All my money goes into my garden,” and today, you can see the wondrous results of the artist’s dedication to his blooms. Add the optional trip to Giverny to visit Monet’s home and cherished gardens, pond, and resident lily pads.
Then, opt for the evening’s dinner and Seine river cruise if you’d like. As the sun sets and the city’s streetlamps begin their nightly twinkle, you’ll see Paris’ monuments in a whole new light.
Madrid3 nights
Day 8: Flight to Madrid
Included meal: Breakfast
Fly to Madrid, Spain, and enjoy free time in the city. You’ll get to know it better tomorrow, but if you’d like a head start, be sure to ask your Tour Director for a recommendation.
Day 9: Sightseeing tour of Madrid
Included meal: Breakfast
Spain’s beating heart, the cosmopolitan capital of Madrid has anchored the Iberian Peninsula since the 8th century A.D. It’s a massive place, but with the help of a local guide, you’ll get a comprehensive introduction.
- View the Palacio Real. Backed up against the Manzanares, this 1,450,000-square-foot behemoth of a building—built in the Neoclassical style—is the largest royal palace in all of Europe.
- View the city’s many squares, including Plaza Colon and Plaza de Neptuno. You’re in for a treat, with enormous fountains and quaint cafes offering prime people-watching opportunities.
- Check out Madrid’s many squares, including Plaza Cibeles and Plaza de Neptuno. The latter marks the approach to the day’s final stop: the Museo Nacional del Prado. Initially the private collection of the Spanish monarchy, this art museum has grown into a world-class attraction, filled with works by Francisco Goya, Diego Velázquez, and other masters. You could spend days exploring its many halls; even with a couple of hours, you'll have the chance to admire a treasure trove of art during a guided tour.
Nightlife in Madrid starts late and goes well into the early hours of the morning. Hit the streets for the classic 10 p.m. dinner or sign up for our (earlier) excursion: a take on the traditional Spanish evening. On this optional outing, you’ll explore the city in the evening light—seeing landmarks like the Plaza Mayor, the historic center of Old Madrid—and enjoy a little traditional tuna music, too.
If you’d prefer to spend some time on your own, ask your Tour Director for a recommendation or make a beeline to La Latina, an old neighborhood known for its tapas bars. Patatas bravas, croquetas, jamon iberico—these small plates are big on flavor.
Day 10: Free day in Madrid
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell dinner
Trade modernity for the medieval by choosing to add our optional excursion to the clifftop city of Toledo. As you traipse through its labyrinthian alleyways, you’ll encounter historic churches, synagogues, and more.
If you’re staying in Madrid, check out the lively streets of Malasana, one of the city’s trendiest neighborhoods. Go for the bohemian charm, eclectic shopping, and street art.
Then, celebrate your trip with your group at a farewell dinner, served with beer or wine.
Flight Home
Day 11: Departure

Your Tour Director will share the stories behind the city’s most iconic landmarks and help you discover the hidden corners that make Barcelona unforgettable.
Barcelona3 nights
Day 11: Train to Barcelona
Included meal: Breakfast
Take a high-speed train to Barcelona and spend free time in the city at your leisure—be sure to ask your Tour Director for a recommendation—or relax and unwind at your hotel.
If you’d like to experience a traditional Andalusian art form firsthand, join the optional excursion to a heart-stopping flamenco show for a night of flamboyant singing, dancing, and clapping.
Please note: Porterage isn’t included for the train transfers. You must be comfortable lifting and carrying all luggage over steps, onto platforms, and into storage.
Day 12: Sightseeing tour of Barcelona
Included meal: Breakfast
You don’t have to be an architecture fan to enjoy Barcelona, but you may just leave as one by the end of your trip. Roman ruins, Gothic drama, and soaring odes to modernism fill the city with unparalleled architectural landmarks, many of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
- Immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring beauty of La Sagrada Familia, a testament to Antoni Gaudí’s genius. Inside, marvel at the intricate details and stained glass that bathe the space in confetti-like bursts of color.
- Drive along Passeig de Gracia, where you’ll encounter Gaudí’s “House of Bones” (Casa Batllo) and the sculptural Casa Mila. Feel the pulse of the city as you traverse Barcelona and see how architectural modernism interacts with everyday life.
- Venture to Montjuic, the hill overlooking Barcelona and site of the 1992 Olympic Games. At the Mirador de l’Alcalde, breathe in panoramic views of the city, the harbor, and beyond, perfumed by a Mediterranean breeze and the surrounding gardens.
- Pass through the grandeur of the Placa d’Espanya, a hub of Catalan culture. Look for the pair of towers, inspired by the campaniles of Venice, and a classically styled fountain at the center of it all.
To see more of Gaudí’s masterworks, we recommend joining the optional excursion to Park Guell, where your eyes will joyfully bounce from colorful mosaics to the tops of whimsical residential rooftops. Savor every tiny detail in the stonework—you never know what surprises you’ll uncover when you take your time.
If you prefer to spend your free afternoon winding through Barcelona on your own, go for some rest and relaxation at Barceloneta Beach, where you can take a leisurely stroll on the boardwalk and—if it’s warm—dip your toes in the Mediterranean. Or, pack a picnic and head to the central Parc de la Ciutadella. Walk its lush gardens or sit by the Cascada Monumental fountain for a moment of sweet respite.
Day 13: Free day in Barcelona
Included meal: Breakfast
With a free day to yourself, wander beyond the usual sights in Barcelona: Stroll through the hidden courtyards of the Gothic Quarter, browse local crafts at the Mercat de Sant Antoni, or catch panoramic views from the bunkers of El Carmel. Or, take our optional excursion to Girona, a medieval gem just an hour north of the city. There, you’ll join a local guide for a walking tour through the historic Old Town, including a visit to the 11th-century Girona Cathedral—recognizable as the Great Sept from the television show “Game of Thrones.”
Later tonight, gather with your group for a farewell drink and raise a glass to your trip.

FAQ

- We recommend having at least one blank passport page for entry stamps.
- Beginning in 2025, U.S. and Canadian passport holders must register for an ETIAS travel authorization in order to enter many European countries.
- Passport holders from over 60 visa-exempt countries (including the U.S. and Canada) will need to apply for an ETIAS travel authorization in order to visit 30 European countries. That means that even if you’ve previously traveled to any of these European countries without a visa, starting in 2025, you’ll need to get ETIAS authorization to visit them again. If you’re traveling to multiple countries with this requirement, you only need to complete the form once. All Go Ahead travelers are responsible for obtaining their own ETIAS travel authorization before departure. For more details, please visit our Help Center.
- Spain requires specific traveler information be reported to the Ministry of the Interior. Please make sure that all travelers in your party have saved their full passport details, home address, phone number, and email address in their online accounts. This information will then be submitted to the Ministry by your hotel accommodations. Travelers who fail to provide this information may face a high fine from the Ministry for non-compliance.
- If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact each country’s consulate for your specific entry requirements.
- You can see the most up-to-date entry requirements for the destination(s) you’ll visit on tour by going to goaheadtours.com/entry-requirements and searching the code LPM.
- Round-trip flights booked through Go Ahead Tours arrive in London and depart from Madrid (or Barcelona on the tour extension).
- Transfers to and from the airport at your destination are included for travelers who have purchased their flights through Go Ahead Tours. Travelers who booked their own flights are responsible for securing their own airport transfers.
- When you arrive in London, a driver from a private chauffeur service will be standing at the arrival hall with your name on a message board. If you do not see your driver, please be patient and stay in the arrivals area. They may be assisting another traveler who has also just arrived and will be back shortly.

Additionally, your hotels will have Wi-Fi, but access may be limited to common areas. There may also not be elevators.
- Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee that your accommodations will have laundry services or facilities. We recommend checking directly with your hotels once they’ve been confirmed, about 30 days prior to departure.
- Some hotels on this tour are situated on narrow streets; as such, our buses can’t drop you off right out front. In these instances, you’ll have to walk your luggage to the property, no more than a few blocks.

- Modern-day London boasts an array of diverse international restaurants. Popular options include Indian, Thai, Chinese, Indonesian, Greek, and West African cuisine. Sip afternoon tea with delicious finger sandwiches and scones at Harrods for the ultimate in English tradition.
- For a picnic with French flair, stop at a small grocery store for cheeses, pâtés, cured meats, fresh-baked bread, and fruit. In the cities, sidewalk vendors are known for their steaming crepes, while mouthwatering pastries and hot café au lait beckon from cafes. In restaurants, the prix fixe option is a popular way to enjoy a set three- or four-course menu for a good price.
- Although lunch is generally served from noon until 2pm in France, dinner is served from 7:30pm onward. Those wishing to eat earlier can stop at a cafe, where light entrées and sandwiches are available throughout the afternoon and evening.
- In Spain, breakfast like a local with just a pastry and coffee. Then, tuck into a three-course lunch featuring a Spanish staple like savory seafood paella or grilled meat and fried potatoes. Dinner is less hearty than lunch and is served late, between 9pm and midnight. Snack on small plates called tapas any time of day.
- Catalan cuisine, which can be found in Barcelona on the tour extension, is markedly different from food in other parts of Spain. Nearly every restaurant will offer pa amb tomàquet—toasted bread with tomato and olive oil. Fresh seafood, hearty meat dishes, cheeses, and locally grown vegetables, such as wild mushrooms, are culinary mainstays.

- Plan ahead and bring cash to tip your tour director, local guides, and bus drivers. We also recommend keeping coins in the local currency on hand, as some public bathrooms may charge a fee for use.
