Day 3: Sightseeing tour of Rome
Included meal: Breakfast
While some cities boast UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the entirety of Rome’s historic center was named one. Today, you’ll follow in the footsteps of the ancients as you explore the capital of modern-day Italy with a local guide.
- Look up at the fourth-century Arch of Constantine, the largest of three ancient triumphal arches still standing in the city.
- View the iconic Colosseum, a nearly 2,000-year-old amphitheater that’s both a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
- Traverse the evocative ruins of the Forum, the former center of Roman life. Imagine the echoes of parades and gripping trials as you explore the remnants of this ancient marketplace.
- Climb aboard your coach for a driving tour and spot the remains of the Circus Maximus, a chariot-racing stadium of epic proportions; the Temple of Hercules Victor, the oldest surviving marble building in Rome; and the open-air Theater of Marcellus, which could once seat more than 17,000 playgoers.
From aperitivi to dolci, dining in Rome is a delight—and on this evening’s optional excursion, you’ll take to Trastevere’s streets and eat your way through some of its tantalizing trattorias. Need a moment of respite? Use your free time to visit the picturesque Aventine Hill, home to the peaceful Giardino degli Aranci (Orange Garden) and the famous keyhole view of St. Peter’s Basilica.
Please note: You must confirm your passport information at least 30 days prior to departure to ensure we can secure your tickets to the Roman Forum.
Day 4: Free day in Rome
Included meal: Breakfast
Some of the holiest places of the Catholic faith can be found in Rome—specifically in the sovereign Vatican City. Add today’s excursion to visit the blessed landmarks of the world’s smallest country (think: St. Peter’s Basilica and the Sistine Chapel) or stay in Rome and explore on your own.
Please note: On some departures, the Iconic Sights: Vatican City excursion may take place on day 3.
Naples2 nights
Day 5: Transfer to Naples, food walking tour & pizza cooking class
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting, Dinner
Southern Italy’s largest city, Naples combines old-world charm and bayside beauty in a single, lovely locale. This morning, ride your bus to the Campanian capital; once you arrive, get acquainted with some of its best sights and bites on a food-themed walking tour.
- Walk through the Piazza del Gesu Nuovo—anchored by a towering statue of the Virgin Mary—and view the eponymous church looming over the square.
- Sip some local espresso. In a country idolized for its coffee, the shots pulled in Naples stand out for their quality.
- Enter the Basilica of Santa Chiara. Part of an identically named monastery, this church was built in the 14th century, partially destroyed during World War II, and restored in 1953. As you walk its cloister, have your camera ready: Floral majolica tiles adorn this photogenic sanctuary.
- Step inside the historic Gay-Odin chocolate shop to taste its famous Vesuvio—a decadent treat resembling the peaks of Naples’ neighboring volcano.
What makes Neapolitan pizza so tasty? This evening, uncover the simple secret behind this beloved dish during a cooking demonstration at one of the city’s revered pizzerias.
- Watch closely as a pizzaiolo (that’s the Italian term for a pizza maker) mixes, kneads, and stretches their dough, then try doing it yourself.
- Add a smattering of fresh ingredients—ripe tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, basil, and DOP-registered olive oil—to your pie, then slide it into a wood-fired oven and sip a glass of Campanian falanghina wine as you wait.
- After baking your pizzas, sit down with your group and eat them for dinner, served with beer or wine.
Day 6: Free day in Naples
Included meal: Breakfast
How will you spend your last day in Italy? For some sun and serenity—and a glimpse into the lives of the rich and famous—add our excursion to the resort island of Capri. Or, if you’d prefer, use your free time to journey to Sorrento, the birthplace of limoncello and home to an array of crisscrossing coastal trails.
Delphi Region2 nights
Day 7: Flight to Athens & transfer to Delphi
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
This morning, soar over the Ionian Sea as you fly to Athens, the era-spanning capital of Greece. Once you touch down, you’ll drive to the Delphi region; settle in at your hotel, then reconvene for an included dinner, served with beer or wine.
Day 8: Sightseeing tour of Delphi
Included meal: Breakfast
Today, head for the slopes of Mount Parnassus to visit the Archaeological Site of Delphi. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this spiritual focal point was believed by the ancient Greeks to be the omphalos—the navel of the Earth, marked by Zeus with an egg-shaped stone.
- Embark on a guided tour and stop at the Temple of Apollo, where, according to legend, the god Apollo once spoke in prophecy to mortals through the voice of an oracle—the high priestess, or Pythia.
- Take time to explore the ancient treasures of the Delphi Museum. Its greatest prize: the Charioteer of Delphi, a life-sized bronze statue unearthed almost entirely intact.
Spend a free evening relaxing in the Delphi region or add our optional outing to Arachova, a picturesque mountain village blanketed with terraced homes and Byzantine churches.
Meteora Region1 night
Day 9: Transfer to Meteora region & sightseeing tour
Included meal: Breakfast
Travel to the Pindus mountain range—the spine of Greece—and arrive in the remote village of Kalambaka. Then, take a guided walking tour of the Meteora monasteries. Isolated atop towering sandstone cliffs, these six UNESCO-recognized hermitages date back to the 14th century, when they were established by Orthodox Christian monks.
- Enter two of the cloisters, such as the Monastery of Roussanou, the Monastery of Agios Stefanos, or the Monastery of Varlaam. (You might even get to meet a nun, priest, or monk for a Q&A!)
- Hike up the Meteora to admire views of the plain of Thessaly from atop 1,000-foot-high pinnacle rocks.
Please note: You must cover your shoulders and knees when visiting the Meteora monasteries.
Athens2 nights
Day 10: Transfer to Athens
Included meal: Breakfast
Settle aboard your bus for the drive down to Athens, where ancient architecture and artifacts coexist with modern life. Once you pull into town, the rest of the day is yours to do as you please.
If your first night in Athens has you feeling like dancing, you’re in luck: Add tonight’s optional excursion to your itinerary to learn the steps of traditional folk dances, then cap it off with dinner at a taverna. Can’t get enough of the nation’s history? Go for a walk—you’re bound to come across something monumental.
Day 11: Sightseeing tour of Athens
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell dinner
Nothing can prepare you for the sheer sense of awe you’ll feel when you come face-to-face with Athens—the cradle of Western civilization and home of the world’s first democracy. For your trip’s final act, meet a local guide and get an introduction to the highlights of this bustling city.
- Pass the Panathenaic Stadium, built entirely out of marble. (It’s the only such stadium in the world.)
- Continue to Syntagma Square—home to the Neoclassical Greek Parliament building—and admire the plaza’s imposing marble steps, fountain, and lush shade trees.
- Reflect on the Arch of Hadrian, built to honor the Roman emperor, and imagine how its Pentelic marble stones were carted more than 11 miles from Mount Pentelikon in 131 A.D.
- View the remains of the sixth-century Temple of Zeus and gaze up at its 16 ornate Corinthian columns.
- Set off on a walking tour of the Acropolis of Athens, a millennia-old, UNESCO-listed citadel and the enduring image of Greece. First properly developed by the renowned politician Pericles, it now contains the ruins of the Parthenon, Temple of Athena Nike, Erechtheion, and dozens of other archaeological sites.
- Walk through the narrow streets and pop into the charming shops of the Plaka district. Situated at the foot of the Acropolis, it’s one of the oldest parts of Athens and is known as the neighborhood of the gods due to the dozens of monuments strewn throughout.
After your tour, spend the afternoon at your leisure. Perhaps stay in Plaka, or wander through Anafiotika on the northeast slope of the Acropolis. The latter neighborhood dates to the 19th century and is chock-full of charming whitewashed cottages and vibrantly hued doors, the likes of which you might have seen—or will see soon—on Mykonos.
This evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant, served with beer or wine, as you celebrate your trip with your fellow group members.
Flight Home
Day 12: Departure
Included meal: Breakfast (excluding early morning departures)
Transfer to the airport for your flight home. Or, instead of taking to the skies, power through the waves en route to the island paradise of Mykonos on this trip’s extension.
Mykonos & Piraeus extension
Greece lays claim to roughly 6,000 islands, but when Mykonos’ stark-white windmills loom into view, you’ll only have eyes for one. The Island of the Winds is the perfect finish line for a trek across Southern Europe: Add this extension, and you’ll spend three nights immersed in its one-of-a-kind mix of revelry and respite. Top-tier restaurants and world-renowned clubs await, and did we mention the beaches? Opal waters, soft golden sands—we could go on, but experience is the best teacher.
Mykonos3 nights
Day 12: Ferry to Mykonos
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Make your way to Piraeus—the largest passenger terminal in Europe—and board a high-speed ferry to iconic Mykonos. Rising out of the Aegean Sea, this rocky Cycladic Island ranks as one of the most popular in all of Greece; after docking, join your Tour Director on a sightseeing walk.
- Stroll Mykonos Town. Dubbed Chora (simply “town”), the island’s main settlement is a beautiful network of brilliant white homes, cerulean doors, and pops of bougainvillea.
- See the island’s windmills—some of which are visible from any point in the old town—the seaside Little Venice neighborhood, and the 17th-century Church of Panagia Paraportiani.
- Enjoy free time to explore Chora’s labyrinthine lanes and alleys. Pop into a cafe for a snack, shop for knickknacks, and let the warm breeze bring a smile to your face.
Finally, transfer to your hotel and sit down for an included dinner, served with beer or wine.
Day 13: Free day in Mykonos
Included meal: Breakfast
If you’re looking to expand your repertoire of recipes, add today’s optional excursion to tie your apron and jump into a hands-on cooking demonstration. You won’t just get to nibble and sip your way through fresh local fare—you’ll also learn how to make Greek staples like tzatziki yourself. What better way to prolong the magic of your trip than by whipping up a tasty memory at home?
Alternatively, use your free day in Mykonos to hit the cobblestones. If visiting the island’s famous beach clubs isn’t your speed, head back to Little Venice for a stroll along the Old Harbor; hike down to Armenistis Lighthouse, one of the oldest in Greece; or get lost in Matogianni Street’s shops and galleries.
Day 14: Free day in Mykonos
Included meal: Breakfast
Want to add another Greek island to your trip? Add today’s optional outing to cruise to legendary Delos. You’ll embark on a guided tour of its remarkably preserved ruins, sanctuaries, and markets—and if history isn’t your thing, the island’s patch of the Aegean Sea offers glimpses of scenic coastlines and neighboring islands.
Alternatively, hop between Mykonos’ renowned beaches. Relax on golden sands, swim in crystalline waters, or snorkel until you’ve worked up an appetite. (Be sure to ask your Tour Director for suggestions on hidden gems and seasonal treats!)
Please note: In April and October, the Delos Cruise & Temple of Apollo excursion runs in the morning. From May to September, it may run either in the morning or the afternoon. Additionally, from November to March, it may be replaced with a visit to Tinos—a Cycladic Island with a famous religious and artistic legacy.
Piraeus1 night
Day 15: Ferry to Athens & transfer to Piraeus
Included meal: Breakfast
Bid Mykonos antio (Greek for “farewell”) before ferrying back to Athens. Then, transfer to Piraeus and check into your downtown hotel. You’ll have time to recharge—or explore the surrounding parks and restaurants—before coming together one last time for a farewell drink.
Flight Home
Day 16: Departure
Included meal: Breakfast (excluding early morning departures)
Transfer to the airport for your flight home.

If you’re traveling to multiple countries with this requirement, you only need to complete the form once. All Go Ahead travelers are responsible for obtaining their own ETIAS travel authorization before departure. For more details, please visit our Help Center.
- If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact each country’s consulate for your specific entry requirements.
- Round-trip flights booked through Go Ahead Tours arrive in Rome and depart from Athens.
- Transfers to and from the airport at the beginning and end of the tour are included for travelers who purchased their flights through Go Ahead Tours. Travelers who booked their own flights are responsible for securing their own airport transfers.
- When you arrive in Rome, a Go Ahead representative will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall with a Go Ahead sign or a sign with your name(s). If you don’t see a representative immediately, please be patient and stay in the arrivals area. They may be assisting another traveler who has also just arrived and will be back shortly.

Climate Considerations
- In the summer months (June-September), travelers can expect heatwaves with temperatures consistently above 90 F.
