Itinerary

Map of Australia showing flight paths between Melbourne, Sydney, and the Great Barrier Reef Region, with a Tasmania extension noted.

Overnight Flight

Day 1: Travel day

Begin your journey to Australia. While flying over the Pacific Ocean, you’ll cross the International Date Line and “lose” a day, jumping ahead one date on the calendar. (Don’t worry: You’ll more than make it up while on tour!)

Day 2: Travel day

Keep flying toward Australia. Soon enough, you’ll be landing in Sydney.

Tasmania extension

Tasmania is the perfect place for any nature enthusiast, history buff, and animal lover. The rugged island is full of lush greenscapes, trendy small towns, and dramatic coastal views. Here, you’ll dive into the layered history of Port Arthur—a former penal settlement where stories of hardship, reform, and resilience echo through preserved ruins and engaging exhibits. Plus, you’ll explore the cobblestone streets of the colonial districts of Hobart, the island’s capital, from the harbor to the Salamanca Market.

Hobart

Day 12: Flight to Hobart & sightseeing tour

Included meal: Breakfast

Board a flight to Hobart, located in southeastern Tasmania. Upon arrival, set off to uncover this charming seaside locale.

  • Admire the city’s colonial-style homes as you stroll along the cobblestone streets of the historic waterfront.
  • View Constitution Dock—the famed finish line of the Hobart Yacht Race—and the Maritime Museum of Tasmania, which highlights the harbor’s important role in trade and commerce.
  • Visit the historic Salamanca Market. Running the entire span of Salamanca Place and hosting more than 300 stalls stocked with local produce, coffee, and more, this resilient and hearty market boasts that it stays open through rain, snow, and hail, only closing for extreme weather.

This evening, join your group and enjoy an included drink together.

Please note: Salamanca Market is only open on Saturdays. When day 12 falls on a different day of the week, an extended walking tour of Hobart will be offered instead.

Day 13: A day on the Tasman Peninsula

Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Spend the day seeing the Tasman Peninsula by both land and sea, taking in the island’s rugged landscape from multiple angles.

  • Enter Tasman National Park, where you’ll find yourself among towering sea cliffs and a variety of wildlife.
  • Embark on a three-hour eco-cruise to explore sea caves and look up at the island’s dolerite cliffs—some of which stand more than 980 feet tall.
  • Keep an eye out for the local marine life, like dolphins, seals, penguins, and even humpback whales.
  • Back on land, enjoy an included lunch.

This afternoon, visit the historic site of Port Arthur, built on the ancestral land of the Paredarerme people. As you explore the evocative ruins and preserved buildings, you’ll have time to join in thoughtful discussions that reveal the complex history and compelling stories of those who lived, labored, and served their sentences here in one of Australia’s most significant heritage sites.

Day 14: Free day in Hobart

Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell dinner

Enjoy a free day in Hobart as you please. If you join our optional excursion to Bruny Island, you’ll fill your day with local flavors, a gentle walk through a rainforest, and a chance to spot white wallabies. If you’re staying behind in Hobart, you can enjoy Tasmania’s lush beauty in the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens.

Tonight, rejoin your fellow group members and raise a toast to your trip during a farewell dinner, served with beer or wine.
