Soak up autumn’s magic as New England’s peaks and valleys come ablaze in crimson and gold.

Mother Nature’s most dazzling performance unfolds in New England each fall, as its forests erupt in fiery shades of red, orange, and gold. From Vermont’s dense Green Mountains to the rocky coastline of Portland, Maine, and the cobbled streets of Boston, Massachusetts, autumn transforms the region into a vibrant, leaf-strewn wonderland. Meander past covered bridges, sip cider straight from the mill, and stroll through charming towns that feel pulled from a storybook. With crisp air, cozy flavors, and rich history around every corner, this is the season New England was made for. Grab a bowl of clam chowder and extend your stay in Boston to see more of the city.

Itinerary

Burlington, Vermont

Day 1: Arrival in Burlington

Welcome to Vermont! After arriving in Burlington, make your way to your hotel to get settled in.

Day 2: Sightseeing tour of Vermont

Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting, Welcome dinner

An all-day foliage tour introduces you to Vermont’s scenic, rustic, quirky charm and the spirited small towns that make up the Green Mountain State. In the fall, the dense greenery of its resident birch, sugar maple, and beech trees turns to blazes of gold and vermilion.

  • Stop in Stowe to enjoy a guided tour of the Trapp Family Lodge—yes, the Trapp family of “The Sound of Music” fame. This European-style mountain resort is ensconced among thousands of acres of trails, gardens, and pastures, and has been owned and operated by the Trapps since 1950.
  • See how apple cider is produced during a visit to a mill and enjoy a tasting of the refreshing drink at the height of apple-picking season.
  • Make a sweet pilgrimage to the Ben & Jerry’s Factory in Waterbury. Of course, we won’t let you leave before you’ve had a scoop at this colorful, cow-print institution.

Join your group for a welcome dinner this evening, served with beer or wine.

With hundreds of years of history unfolding right before you, you’ll be glad you stayed a little longer.

Boston, Massachusetts

Day 8: Sightseeing tour of Plymouth

Included meal: Breakfast

Head to Plymouth and spend the morning exploring this historic coastal town. Visit a living history museum where costumed interpreters and detailed recreations bring the 17th century to life. Wander through a Pilgrim village, a Wampanoag homesite, and step aboard the Mayflower II—a full-scale replica of the ship that carried the Pilgrims to the New World.

  • Enter the historic Plimouth Patuxet Museum to learn about the Indigenous inhabitants of southeastern Massachusetts, the Wampanoag people, as well as the colonial English settlers who arrived in the area.
  • Stop in Pilgrim Memorial National Park to take a picture with Plymouth Rock, traditionally believed to be the spot where the Pilgrims first set foot in the New World in 1620. Although there’s no evidence this is the exact location of their fateful landing, the rock remains a powerful, if unassuming, symbol of American colonial lore.

Enjoy free time for lunch before returning to Boston.

Day 9: Free day in Boston

Included meal: Breakfast

With your free day in Boston, join us for an optional excursion to walk the tree-lined paths and ponds of Boston Common and visit the opulent Wang Theatre. Modeled to evoke the grand European opera houses, expect gilded moldings, chandeliers dripping with crystal, and sweeping curved staircases.

If you’d rather set off on your own, you can hop on one of Boston’s beloved duck boats to revisit the city’s sights and sounds by land and on the Charles River.

This evening, sip a farewell drink as you celebrate your trip with your fellow group members.
