Itinerary

Boston, Massachusetts

Day 1: Arrival in Boston & Fourth of July fireworks

Welcome to Massachusetts—and happy Fourth of July! Once you’ve settled in at your hotel, join a city buzzing with anticipation for the night’s festivities. Consider heading for the Charles River Esplanade: Thousands of people gather each year for a concert by the Boston Pops orchestra, with the finale syncing to a riotous fireworks display. If you’re lucky, you might find a spot nearby!

Day 2: Walking tour of Boston’s Freedom Trail

Included meals: Breakfast, Welcome dinner

Tracing a red brick path 2.5 miles through Boston, the Freedom Trail links 16 sites that played a key role in American history. Lace up your shoes, meet up with a local guide, and set out on a walk through Boston’s very heart.

  • Head from Boston Common, the country’s first public park, to the Old State House. Look for a circle of cobblestones, ringed by bronze, in front of the building’s balcony—it marks the site of the Boston Massacre.
  • Pause for photos outside of the Paul Revere House, where the famed patriot once lived. Built around 1680, this gray wooden structure is the oldest home in Downtown Boston.
  • Pass the Old North Church and gaze up at its white steeple, where two lanterns were hung to reveal the movement of British troops on the night of April 18, 1775.
  • End at the Bunker Hill Monument, an obelisk commemorating one of the major battles of the early Revolutionary War. (If you choose to climb its 294 steps, you’ll be rewarded with a sweeping view of the Charlestown neighborhood, the Boston skyline, and the harbor surrounding it.)

Then, spend your free afternoon how you’d like. For a satisfying lunch, consider venturing to the nearby towns of Cambridge or Brookline—both culinary destinations in their own right. Don’t spoil your appetite, though: Tonight, you’ll join your groupmates at a local restaurant for a welcome dinner, served with beer or wine.
