In between, fill your time with optional excursions to Versailles, a glittering cruise down the Seine, and ample hours to roam the arrondissements in between bites of baguette. Day 2: Arrival in Paris
Included meal: Welcome dinner
Bienvenue a Paris! Meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers at tonight’s welcome dinner, served with beer or wine. Can’t wait to eat until then? Hunt down a cafe or street vendor for a crepe. Enjoy them sweet (with Nutella or jam) or savory—there’s no wrong answer.
Day 3: Sightseeing tour of Paris
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
Ready to be dazzled by the City of Light? With a local guide leading the way, you’ll get an overview of Paris’ most recognizable landmarks and a feel for the character of its arrondissements. (That’s French for “districts,” and it’s how Parisians refer to the city’s neighborhoods.)
- Drive down the sycamore-lined Avenue des Champs-Elysees—an icon of France that’s lined with majestic monuments, glitzy restaurants, and glamorous storefronts.
- Take in the magnificent Arc de Triomphe, originally built to commemorate one of Napoleon’s many conquests. A dozen different avenues spoke from this epic arch, making it Paris’ symbolic heart.
- Make a photo stop at the Eiffel Tower (you know this one!) before viewing the Place de la Concorde, the city’s grandest square.
- Bite into a perfectly flaky croissant, a bittersweet pain au chocolat, and a savory mini quiche—the holy trinity of Parisian baking—during an included tasting.
- Cap off the tour with pre-booked entry to the Louvre—home to the world’s most celebrated art collection. Skip the ticket lines and head straight inside to wander its grand galleries at your own pace, coming face to face with masterworks like the “Mona Lisa” and the Venus de Milo.
To end your day on a high note, opt into the evening’s dinner and Seine River cruise. As the sun sets and the city’s streetlamps begin their nightly twinkle, you’ll see Paris’ monuments in a whole new light.
Day 4: ❇️ Carnavalet Museum & Place des Vosges or Ile de la Cite walking tour
Included meal: Breakfast
❇️ Your morning in Paris kicks off with one of these two included experiences:
- Best for history buffs: Carnavalet Museum & Le Marais. Visit the Carnavalet Museum, which is dedicated to the story of Paris itself, then continue to the Place des Vosges for a sweet treat (a macaron, perhaps?) from an artisanal shop.
- Best for landmark lovers: Ile de la Cite & Notre-Dame. Take a walking tour of the ancient island in the Seine, including a visit to the masterfully restored cathedral.
With your morning’s culture fix behind you, the afternoon is all yours. Wander a neighborhood you haven’t yet discovered, browse the book stalls along the Seine, or settle into a sidewalk cafe and watch the city go by.
Please note: Choose your experience gives you the freedom to personalize your city experience by selecting one guided sightseeing activity from two available options—both included in your tour price. Both activities occur simultaneously, so you will need to choose just one. You can make your selection at the time of booking or any time up to 20 days before your tour departure. We encourage you to choose early, as some activities have limited availability and fill up on a first-come, first-served basis—your spot is not guaranteed until you’ve enrolled.
Day 5: Free day in Paris
Included meal: Breakfast
If you need a break from the buzz of this electric city, seek royal refuge by adding an afternoon outing to the Palace and Gardens of Versailles. You’ll encounter gilded walkways, fresco-adorned ceilings, and close to 2,000 acres of immaculate green space—all just a few miles west of Paris. Or, stay in town and use your free time to amble to the Champ-de-Mars and savor a picnic in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower.
As evening falls, add on a night to remember in Montmartre—Paris’ bohemian hilltop neighborhood of winding streets, candlelit bistros, and artistic legacy. Your outing includes dinner and a cabaret show, a classically Parisian way to spend a night in the City of Light. Prefer to craft your own evening? Seek out a cozy wine bar in Le Marais or linger over a long dinner at a classic brasserie—Paris after dark has a magic all its own.
Day 6: Monet’s Giverny & Normandy cider farm
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
Leave the city behind as you head into the French countryside for a day of art, history, and a taste of rural life in Normandy—with a free evening back in Paris to round it all out.
- Strike out for the village of Giverny, where impressionist master Claude Monet spent the last four decades of his life—and found the inspiration for some of his most celebrated works. A guided tour of his beloved home reveals the brightly colored interiors and personal spaces that shaped his artistic vision.
- Linger as long as you like during free time to wander Monet’s legendary gardens. From the willow-draped Japanese bridge to the lily-covered pond, every corner feels like stepping inside one of his canvases.
- Leave one pastoral setting for another and continue to an apple orchard near Giverny, where the region’s celebrated cider-making traditions are very much alive. A guided tour walks you through the craft behind one of France’s most storied agricultural legacies.
- Gather for a tasting and raise a glass (or two!). Sample the farm’s own cider alongside Calvados, the smooth apple brandy that Normandy has been producing for centuries, and discover why this corner of France is synonymous with the fruit.
Back in Paris this evening, the night is yours. Duck into a jazz club in Saint-Germain-des-Pres, browse the glowing boutiques along the Rue de Rivoli, or cap the night with a scoop of artisanal ice cream or a box of macarons.
Day 7: Free day in Paris & signature farewell dinner
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell dinner
Your final full day in Paris is yours to fill however you see fit, but if you’re looking for the perfect send-off, consider keeping your breakfast light and starting the morning with an optional food walking tour through the Palais-Royal neighborhood. Winding through some of the city’s most storied streets, this exclusive tour is your chance to track down Paris’ finest croissants, baguettes, cheeses, and chocolates.
To continue exploring the city at your own pace, you can visit the National Library of France and its grand, restored reading room, or head underground to learn the secrets of the city’s legendary catacombs.
Tonight, head to one of Paris’ historic cafes and celebrate a trip well-spent with your group at a farewell dinner, served with beer or wine.
Flight Home
Day 8: Departure
Included meal: Breakfast (excluding early morning departures)
Transfer to the airport for your flight home—or extend your stay and trade the City of Light for the vineyards and elegance of Bordeaux. This UNESCO-listed city pairs grand 18th-century architecture with world-class wine and food at every turn.
Bordeaux extension
Board a high-speed TGV train bound for Bordeaux—France’s elegant “Little Paris” set on the banks of the Garonne River. As the countryside flashes past at nearly 200 mph, you’ll trade city boulevards for vineyard views and the easy rhythm of wine country life. Once there, spend three leisurely days exploring this walkable, UNESCO-listed port city alongside your Tour Director. Between a hands-on cooking class, a pastry tasting, and an optional (but very tempting) wine tasting, you’ll sample both Bordeaux’s flavors and its effortless charm.
Bordeaux3 nights
Day 8: Train to Bordeaux & evening cooking class
Included meals: Breakfast, Dinner
Arrive in Bordeaux and settle in before taking the afternoon to explore at your own pace—stroll the grand boulevards, linger in sunny squares, or unwind at a cafe with a glass of the region’s signature red.
Come evening, your group reconvenes for a hands-on cooking class led by local chefs. Roll up your sleeves and dive into the flavors of the region as you prepare a meal rooted in traditional French cuisine, each dish thoughtfully paired with a wine that does it justice. Bon appetit!
Please note: Porterage isn’t included on train transfers. You should be comfortable lifting and carrying your luggage over steps, onto platforms, and into storage.
Day 9: Sightseeing tour of Bordeaux
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
Meet your local guide for a panoramic tour of Bordeaux, the capital of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, venerated for its wine and elegant architecture.
- Begin in the Place des Quinconces, a 63-acre city square that ranks as one of the largest in all of Europe. At its core soars the Monument aux Girondins: Drenched in symbolism and protected by bronze sculptures of soldiers and horses, it memorializes local politicos who were executed during the Reign of Terror in the wake of the French Revolution.
- Head into the UNESCO-listed Port de la Lune harbor district to see the Place de la Bourse: the Stock Market Square centered on a reflecting pool that mirrors the neoclassical buildings framing the plaza. From there, cross the Pont de Pierre—the first bridge in Bordeaux to span the Garonne River—and stop on the Cours Victor Hugo. This stately avenue, named after one of the city’s most famous residents, is lined with historic buildings, funneling you to the Palais Rohan (Bordeaux’s city hall).
- Trade the stark facade of the Palais Rohan for the opulent columns of the Grand Theatre, Bordeaux’s opera house and the centerpiece of the Place de la Comedie. The city’s main streets converge on this lively square, making it an excellent place to people-watch.
- Wrap up your guided tour by sampling local treats like merveilles (diamond-shaped beignets), caneles (caramelized pastries spiced with rum and vanilla), and bouchons de Bordeaux (almonds and grapes macerated in brandy and wrapped in thin dough).
Day 10: Free day in Bordeaux
Included meal: Breakfast
Wine is Bordeaux’s calling card for a reason, and Saint-Emilion produces some of its finest vintages. Explore this cute commune by sight and taste on today’s optional outing, or hang back and enjoy a free day in the city. Art lovers should check out La Base Sous-Marine. Built by the Axis powers during World War II, this brutalist hulk originally functioned as a submarine base. Instead of subs, it now hosts the largest digital art center in the world.
This evening, enjoy a farewell drink as you celebrate your trip with your fellow group members.

- About 2 hours of bus time daily
Walking, Terrain & Physical Requirements
- Travelers should be prepared to walk 2-3 miles per day on city streets, cobblestones, stairs, and hills.

Please keep in mind that trains may only be stopping at the stations for a few minutes; speed with loading and unloading may be imperative.
- Please note that our travelers are limited to one checked bag and one carry-on bag per person due to storage limitations on motor coaches.
- Some airlines may impose additional charges if you exceed baggage size and weight restrictions. Be advised that you are responsible for any baggage fees incurred on all flights.

- We recommend packing a universal adapter, as well as a voltage converter if you plan on using your own hairdryer or other device without a built-in converter.
- In case of emergencies, we also recommend packing your medical insurance card in your carry-on.
- Go Ahead handpicks every hotel you’ll stay at, striking a balance between comfort, location, and local charm.

Choose Your Experience
Choose your experience gives you the freedom to personalize your city experience by selecting one guided sightseeing activity from two available options — both included in your tour price. Please note that the two activities occur simultaneously, so you will need to choose just one. You can make your selection at the time of booking or any time up to 20 days before your tour departure. We encourage you to choose early, as some activities have limited availability and fill up on a first-come, first-served basis — your spot is not guaranteed until you've enrolled. If no selection is made by the 20-day deadline, we will automatically assign you to one of the options. Once the deadline has passed, selections are final and cannot be changed. All choose your experience activities require a minimum number of participants to operate. In the rare event that your selected activity cannot run, you will be moved to the alternate option. - Breakfast each morning is also included at the hotel and is typically buffet style with hot and cold options.
- For a picnic with French flair, stop at a small grocery store for cheeses, pâtés, cured meats, fresh-baked bread, and fruit. In the cities, sidewalk vendors are known for their steaming crepes, while mouthwatering pastries and hot café au lait beckon from cafes. In restaurants, the prix fixe option is a popular way to enjoy a set three- or four-course menu for a good price.
- Although lunch is generally served from noon until 2pm in France, dinner is served from 7:30pm onward. Those wishing to eat earlier can stop at a cafe, where light entrées and sandwiches are available throughout the afternoon and evening.
- The town market plays an important role in daily French life. Peruse the stalls to find freshly baked breads, locally grown produce, handmade cheeses, cured meats and more.
- Cuisine in the Bordeaux region of France on the tour extension is known for its rich, refined flavors. Duck, lamb, and beef — particularly the prized Pauillac lamb and entrecote steak — are regional staples, often accompanied by the area's world-famous wines. The proximity to the Atlantic coast means fresh oysters and seafood are never far from the table. Bordeaux is also celebrated for its canele, a small caramelized pastry with a custardy center that has become one of the city's most beloved culinary symbols.
- Home to some of the most storied vineyards in the world, Bordeaux produces an extraordinary range of reds, whites, and dessert wines. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot dominate the celebrated blends of the Left and Right Banks, while Sauternes — the region's legendary sweet wine — rounds out a cellar that has set the global standard for centuries.

- You can use most debit/credit cards at ATMs on the international networks Cirrus and Plus, but make sure to check with your home bank about withdrawal fees.
- International banks and businesses primarily accept debit and credit cards that work with the EMV chip system. If you do not already have at least one debit or credit card with a chip in it, we strongly recommend requesting one from your bank prior to your tour.
