Day 2: Arrival in Barcelona
Included meal: Welcome dinner
Welcome to Spain! Meet your Tour Director and fellow travelers at tonight’s welcome dinner in Barcelona, served with beer or wine. This cosmopolitan, coastal city is the capital of Spain’s Catalonia region and is celebrated for its spectacular art and architecture—particularly works by Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, and Antoni Gaudí.
Day 3: Sightseeing tour of Gaudí's Barcelona
Included meals: Breakfast, Tasting
You don’t have to be an architecture fan to enjoy Barcelona, but you may just leave as one by the end of your trip. Roman ruins, Gothic drama, and soaring odes to modernism fill the city with unparalleled architectural landmarks, many of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
- Set out for Park Güell, where Gaudí’s mosaic-covered terraces, twisting colonnades, and sweeping views over the city offer a fittingly colorful introduction to his genius.
- Wind your way down along Passeig de Gracia, one of Barcelona’s grandest avenues, passing the iconic Casa Batllo—nicknamed the “House of Bones” for its skeletal facade and undulating balconies.
- Reach the top of Las Ramblas—a promenade of plane trees, bright blooms, and street performers—with the Gothic Quarter calling from the side streets. Savor the scene before you head on to the day’s main event.
- Step inside the breathtaking Sagrada Familia. You’ll immerse yourself in its awe-inspiring beauty, a testament to Antoni Gaudí’s genius, and marvel at the intricate details and stained glass that bathe the space in confetti-like bursts of color. After more than 100 years, it’s set to be completed in 2026.
- Cap off the day with a classic Spanish indulgence: a churros and chocolate tasting, pairing crispy fried dough with rich, velvety dipping chocolate the way Barcelonans have enjoyed it for generations.
Day 4: ❇️ Picasso Museum or walking tour of Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter
Included meal: Breakfast
Enjoy a gentle start to your morning. Sip a cafe con leche on a sun-drenched terrace, wander down Las Ramblas, or ask your Tour Director for a recommendation—there’s no wrong way to start a day in this city.
❇️ Then, fill your afternoon with one of these two included experiences:
- Best for art lovers: Picasso Museum Barcelona. Explore more than 4,200 works tracing the artist’s remarkable journey from student to revolutionary master.
- Best for history buffs: Gothic Quarter Walking Tour. Join a local guide for a walk through Barcelona’s oldest neighborhood, where Roman ruins and Gothic architecture exist side by side.
Please note: Choose your experience gives you the freedom to personalize your city experience by selecting one guided sightseeing activity from two available options—both included in your tour price. Both activities occur simultaneously, so you will need to choose just one. You can make your selection at the time of booking or any time up to 20 days before your tour departure. We encourage you to choose early, as some activities have limited availability and fill up on a first-come, first-served basis—your spot is not guaranteed until you’ve enrolled.
Day 5: Free day in Barcelona
Included meal: Breakfast
Forge your own perfect day in Barcelona—either by exploring solo or adding one of our curated excursions to your itinerary.
If it’s cascading valleys and mountain views you’re after, opt for our journey to Montserrat. You’ll ride a high-flying cable car to the Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey; on a clear day, you can glimpse the Pyrenees mountains in the distance.
As the sun dips below the Barcelona skyline, consider adding our evening flamenco dance workshop—a hands-on introduction to one of Spain’s most passionate and expressive art forms. Learn the basics from a seasoned instructor before settling in for an included dinner, the perfect way to cap a day spent soaking up the best of the city.
If you choose to spend your free day winding through Barcelona on your own, pack a picnic and a bottle of Cava (a Spanish sparkling wine) and head to Barcelona’s central Parc de la Ciutadella. Walk its manicured gardens or sit by the Cascada Monumental fountain for some prime people-watching.
Day 6: Walking tour of Girona
Included meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Tucked between the Pyrenees and the Costa Brava, Girona is one of Catalonia’s best-kept secrets—a beautifully preserved city punctuated by ancient walls and colorful riverside houses. Today, you’ll leave Barcelona behind and let Girona work its medieval magic.
- Meet your local guide upon arrival and set out on a walking tour through Girona’s enchanting Old City, where Roman foundations, medieval alleyways, and Jewish Quarter remnants tell the story of a city through its layers.
- Cap the tour with a visit to Girona Cathedral, an 11th-century architectural masterwork whose single nave—one of the widest Gothic naves in the world—never fails to stop visitors in their tracks.
- Pull up a chair at a local restaurant for a leisurely lunch, sampling the flavors of the region before making your way back to Barcelona.
Return to the city with the rest of the evening free to explore on your own. Whether you’re on the lookout for the perfect spot for tapas, strolling the waterfront, or simply soaking up the atmosphere of a Barcelona night, the city is yours.
Day 7: Free day in Barcelona & tapas farewell dinner
Included meals: Breakfast, Farewell dinner
On your final full day in Barcelona, consider going out with a flourish by adding on today’s cooking class—a hands-on culinary experience that begins with a stroll through the vibrant stalls of Mercat de Santa Caterina, one of the city’s most colorful and authentic neighborhood markets. Gather fresh, seasonal ingredients alongside your instructor before heading into the kitchen to craft a spread of traditional Spanish dishes, all paired with local wines.
Prefer to spend the day at your own pace? The Fundacio Joan Miró, perched on the slopes of Montjuic, is well worth an unhurried morning among its vibrant collection of paintings, sculptures, and tapestries from one of Catalonia’s most beloved artists. Or simply drift back to a favorite corner of the city—Barcelona has a way of revealing something new every time.
However you choose to spend your last day, rejoin your group this evening for a festive farewell dinner served tapas style—small plates, big flavors, and a selection of beer or wine.

Nightlife in Madrid starts late and goes well into the early hours of the morning. Hit the streets for the classic 10 p.m. dinner or opt into our (earlier) excursion: a take on the traditional Spanish evening. On this optional outing, you’ll explore the city in the evening light—seeing landmarks like Plaza Mayor, the historic center of Old Madrid—and enjoy a little traditional tuna music, too.
If you’d prefer to spend the evening on your own, ask your Tour Director for a recommendation or make a beeline to La Latina, an old neighborhood known for its tapas bars. Patatas bravas, croquetas, jamon iberico—these small plates are big on flavor.
Please note: Porterage is not included on train transfers. You should be comfortable lifting and carrying luggage over steps, onto platforms, and into storage.
Day 9: Sightseeing tour of Madrid
Included meal: Breakfast
Get an insider's view of Madrid, where the legacy of the Habsburgs and Bourbons meets the maverick spirit of the Spanish people. Begin near the Royal Palace, then set out on foot through the winding streets of Old Madrid, tracing the city’s remarkable journey from a medieval town to a 16th-century powerhouse.
- Stroll through the historic heart of Old Madrid, taking in its layered architecture and storied plazas before arriving at the grand Plaza Mayor—one of Spain’s most iconic public squares and a hub of Madrilen life for centuries.
- Transfer to the Liria Palace, an 18th-century neoclassical mansion and the official residence of the prestigious House of Alba. Snag an audioguide and explore one of the world’s most significant private art collections, featuring masterpieces by Goya, Velázquez, and Titian.
- Wander the palace’s opulent halls and discover a remarkable archive containing original manuscripts by Christopher Columbus.
With the rest of the day free, why not make a beeline to La Latina, an old neighborhood known for its tapas bars? Patatas bravas, croquetas, jamon iberico—these small plates are big on flavor.
Day 10: Sightseeing tour of Toledo
Included meal: Breakfast
Trade modernity for the medieval by choosing to add our optional excursion to the clifftop city of Toledo. As you traipse through its labyrinthian alleyways, you’ll encounter historic churches, synagogues, and more.
If you’re staying in Madrid, check out the lively streets of Malasana, one of the city’s trendiest neighborhoods. Go for the bohemian charm, eclectic shopping, and street art.
This evening, enjoy a farewell drink as you celebrate your trip with your fellow group members.

- Passport holders from over 60 visa-exempt countries (including the U.S. and Canada) will need to apply for an ETIAS travel authorization in order to visit 30 European countries. That means that even if you’ve previously traveled to any of these European countries without a visa, you’ll need to get ETIAS authorization to visit them again. If you’re traveling to multiple countries with this requirement, you only need to complete the form once. All Go Ahead travelers are responsible for obtaining their own ETIAS travel authorization before departure. For more details, please visit our Help Center.
- Spain requires specific traveler information be reported to the Ministry of the Interior. Please make sure that all travelers in your party have saved their full passport details, home address, phone number, and email address in their online accounts. This information will then be submitted to the Ministry by your hotel accommodations. Travelers who fail to provide this information may face a high fine from the Ministry for non-compliance.

- Transfers to and from the airport at the beginning and end of the tour are included for travelers who purchased their flights through Go Ahead Tours. Travelers who booked their own flights are responsible for securing their own airport transfers.
- When you arrive in Barcelona, a Go Ahead representative will be waiting for you in the arrivals hall with a Go Ahead sign or a sign with your name(s).
