Master the Art of the Japanese Tea Ceremony

Duration
1 hour
Price
From $19.00
Group size
Up to 15 people

Join an expert from Tokyo and learn how to make tea in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony.

Ever wondered exactly what matcha is? Or how to make tea the way the masters do in Japan? Join Tokyo native Yukiko for a virtual, behind-the-scenes look at the art of the Japanese tea ceremony in her establishment called Koomon, Tokyo. Yukiko will begin the Online Escape by inviting you into the drawing room, where she’ll share the philosophy and history of the traditional Japanese green tea ceremony, as well as its meaning in modern society. You’ll then move into the tea ceremony room, where a tea master of the Enshuuryuu school will demonstrate how to brew matcha tea—this will be a good moment for you to sip a cup of your own green tea, if you have some! Tea time will never look the same once you learn how to perform a Japanese tea ceremony at home. There’s even an art to enjoying matcha tea in Japan, and you’ll learn how to do that, too. As Yukiko will explain, the Japanese tea ceremony (and this Online Escape) all comes down to one very important thing: ICHI-GO-ICHI-E. Tune in to find out what that Japanese concept means!
