Travel Guide

Passport & Visa

As of January 8, 2007, U.S. citizens are required to have a valid passport to enter Canada. Therefore, a passport is required to travel on the Alaska's Glacier Bay tour. No visa is required. Canadian citizens must also travel with a valid passport in order to gain entry into the U.S.

Health

There are no recommended immunizations for travel to these countries.

Transportation / Walking on tour

Most sightseeing is conducted for the deck on your ship or by private motorcoach. For some included visits, be prepared for some walking through cities and to monuments and museums, with steps.

Clothing & Packing Tips

Versatile layers with comfortable walking shoes are recommended. A lightweight jacket and emergency rainwear will come in handy. It can also get cold, so a heavier jacket is always a good idea.

Aboard the Pearl, casual attire is appropriate all times of day. The cruise line operates a Freestyle Cruising policy that lets you choose your evening dress according to your taste. However, in al restaurants, jeans, t-shirts, shorts, cut-offs and tank tops are prohibited. The cruise line does offer optional formal nights, where black tie or a dark suit is recommended for men, and an evening gown or cocktail dress is suggested for women. You might also wish to bring a pair of binoculars for viewing wildlife and scenery.

Currency

The official currency aboard the ship is the U.S. Dollar, and all prices are quoted in U.S. dollars. On your free day in Victoria, you may wish to exchange a small amount of Canadian dollars. Better rates of exchange are found in Canada. We recommend taking cash, credit, bank and/or ATM cards for the easiest and least expensive exchange. We suggest informing your bank and credit card company of your travel plans, so they don't confuse your purchases for fraudulent charges.

On board the Pearl, you will be issued a Norwegian Cruise Line card that will enable you to sign for most shipboard expenses, such as optional shore excursions, bar and wine bills, beauty treatments and photo orders. Your account can be settled with cash, traveler's checks or a major credit card such as American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club or Discover Card. Personal checks are not cashed or accepted.

We recommend $2USD per person per day for your driver and $4USD to $6USD per person per day for your Tour Director. If applicable, we also recommend $1USD per local guide. Tips can only be paid in cash.

Gratuities for the Alaskan Cruise aboard the Pearl are not included in the price of your tour, but will be automatically charged to your onboard account. In general, this gratuity amounts to $10 per person per day, which covers all service charges for ship personnel. A separate 15 percent service charge is automatically added to all bar tabs and spa services.
