Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 - London

Relax aboard an overnight transatlantic flight to Great Britain.

Day 2 - London

Arrive in London, one of Europe’s oldest capital cities. After clearing customs and collecting your bags, look for the SkyShuttle Transfer desk. They will be providing your transfer to your hotel. The rest of your day is free to unpack, settle in or begin your explorations of London. Meet your fellow travelers at this evening’s included dinner. (B in flight, D)

Day 3 - London

Discover some of London's historical highlights, as a professional local guide leads a sightseeing tour of the British capital. You’ll see the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and the gates of St. James’s Palace, where you might glimpse the ceremonial Changing of the Guard (seasonal). This afternoon, join an optional excursion to Windsor Castle, a thousand-year-old royal retreat built by William the Conqueror after the Battle of Hastings. Day 4 - London

With a free day in London, you might view the collections of London’s museums, such as the National Gallery or the Tate Gallery. Or join an optional excursion to Westminster Abbey, which includes a leisurely cruise down the Thames. (B)

Day 5 - Paris

Transfer to St. Pancras Station to board the state-of-the-art Eurostar train for your high-speed journey to Paris. (B, D)

Day 6 - Paris

Drive down the sycamore-lined Champs-Élysées, one of the world’s most celebrated boulevards, as a local guide introduces you to the historical and cultural landmarks of the City of Light. View the Eiffel Tower, the Place de la Concorde and the Opera House. Walk through the colorful Tuileries gardens, named for their location upon the former site of a ceramic tile (tuile) factory. You’ll pass Notre Dame Cathedral, where ancient Romans once worshipped Jupiter. This afternoon, join an optional excursion to Versailles, the opulent retreat of Louis XIV and his descendants. (B)

Louis XIV, known as the “Sun King,” set new standards among European royalty for the decadence of his reign. On this half-day excursion, you will see the palace in all its glory. Tour the State Apartments and the glittering Hall of Mirrors then stroll through the lavish gardens.

Day 7 - Paris

Absorb the romance of Paris at your leisure today. You might walk amid the booksellers’ stalls on the Left Bank or visit the Louvre. Or, join a half-day excursion to nearby Giverny (seasonal), the home of Monet. End the day at our optional Evening in Paris, with dinner at a fine local restaurant followed by a romantic cruise along the Seine. (B)

Day 8 - Rome

From Paris, fly to Rome. After hotel check-in, the rest of your day is yours to discover the Eternal City. Your tour director can give you an orientation to the city and suggest sightseeing activities. (B, D)

Day 9 - Rome

Spend a free day immersing yourself in the glory of Rome. Spectacular feats of art and architecture greet the eye at every turn. Or, join an optional morning tour of Vatican City, including St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museum. Follow this with an optional afternoon excursion into the Roman catacombs, where popes and saints lie buried. (B)

US citizens are required to have a valid passport to enter London, Paris & Rome. No visa is required.

There is an included transfer on the high-speed Eurostar train from London to Paris. When traveling by train there may be times when you will have to handle your own luggage, and you’ll find that lightweight luggage provides a distinct advantage.

They will be providing your transfer to your hotel. Most sightseeing is conducted by private motorcoach. For some included visits and optional excursions, be prepared for some more walking through elaborate monuments and museums, with steps. On your Imperial Rome tour on Day 10, there is some mild uneven and rocky terrain while exploring the Forum Romanum.

Clothing & Packing Tips

Light, versatile layers and sturdy, comfortable walking shoes are essential. A lightweight jacket and emergency rainwear are also recommended for your time in London. If you plan to visit an elegant restaurant or attend the opera or theater, you should bring a more formal outfit. Also, remember that it is preferable to cover your legs and shoulders when visiting churches or other religious sites. Entrance may be denied on the basis of bare legs and shoulders.

Currency

The currencies that you will be using on your tour are the English pound in London and the Euro in Paris and Rome. ATM’s are easily accessible throughout London, Paris and Rome. Major American credit cards are accepted in all three cities. We suggest that you inform your bank and credit card company of your travel plans so that they won’t confuse your international travel purchases for fraudulent charges.

Tipping

At the conclusion of your tour it is customary to offer your Go Ahead Tour Director and driver a gratuity.

We recommend €2 per person per day for your driver and €4 to €6 per person for your tour director. If applicable, we also recommend €1 per local guide.

Tips may only be paid in cash.
