Detailed Itinerary
Day 1 - Overnight Flight
Your trip begins with a regularly scheduled overnight flight to Florence aboard an internationally recognized airline.
Day 2 - Montecatini
Welcome to Italy! A Go Ahead representative greets you at the airport after you clear customs and then accompanies you via private motorcoach to Montecatini, where you’ll be assisted with hotel check-in. After check-in, you’ll attend an introductory lecture focusing on the technical aspects of photography. Next, join your group for a Welcome Dinner.

Day 3 - Montecatini
This morning, stop to visit Lucca, a walled medieval town. Your photographer will lead you through the town and bring you to the top of one of Lucca’s ancient towers (don’t forget your panoramic lens!). Later, you’ll transfer to Pistoia, a city steeped in the history of the Guelph-Ghibelline rivalry.

Day 4 - Montecatini
Take a day trip to the timeless city of Florence, birthplace of the Italian language, the Renaissance and opera. You’ll enjoy a guided tour of the city, including a visit to the Museo Nazionale Alinari Colella Fotografica (or Photography Museum), home to rare images, instruments and period photography equipment. During your free time you might train your lens on Brunelleschi’s masterpiece—Florence’s massive pink, white and green-Duomo—and the streets near the Uffizi Gallery.

Please note: You will visit all villages and cities listed as destinations for Days 5-10, but the order in which you reach each town may vary based on your photographic guide’s judgment on weather, lighting and other conditions.
Day 5 - Montecatini
Spend the morning walking through the world-famous Chianti Region, home of Chianti wine, before stopping for lunch at a secluded castle. You’ll then attend a wine tasting at a vineyard, with time to take photos among the trellises. This afternoon, return to Montecatini, where you’ll ride the funicular up to Montecatini Alto to capture photos of the town just before sunset.

Day 6 - Siena
This morning, transfer to Siena, where a guided tour introduces you to the town’s duomo and the Campo, where the town’s annual horse race take place. You’ll enjoy lunch in Siena before this afternoon’s photography walk through the woods outside Monteriggioni. Your destination is a small country church, and along the way, you’ll be treated to more Tuscan scenery. Enjoy an included dinner in Siena this evening.

Day 7 - Siena
Today, visit the town of San Gimignano and its dramatic medieval towers. Take some time to experiment with the shadows cast by the towers. before continuing on to Volterra, a city with a history dating back to the ancient Etruscan civilization. The Roman ruins here may provide you with some memorable photo opportunities. Return to Siena for the night.

Day 8 - Chianciano
Spend this morning in Siena’s Piazza del Campo, the site of the city’s famous horse race. For centuries, Siena has been a city of neighborhoods, and as you might expect, a healthy rivalry has developed among Siena’s communities. Each year, Siena’s neighborhoods select riders to represent them in the Palio, the annual citywide horse race. Your photographer will show you how to capture the best parts of the Campo. This afternoon, transfer to the Val d’Orcia, where you’ll explore the Renaissance town of Pienza. Dinner is included tonight.

Day 9 - Chianciano
This morning, discover the Val d’Orcia Region with the help of your photographer. This afternoon, transfer to the Sant’ Antimo Abbey, where you’ll capture the abbey’s cypress trees at sunset.

Day 10 - Rome
Transfer to Rome this morning. The balance of the day is free at leisure. Tonight, you’ll have a chance to showcase your favorite photos and view the images captured by your group during your time in Italy. Then, enjoy an included dinner and toast to your progress as a photographer!
