Detailed Itinerary

Day 1 - Overnight Flight

Your trip begins with a regularly scheduled overnight flight to Naples aboard an internationally recognized airline.

Day 2 - Naples

Welcome to Naples! A Go Ahead representative greets you at the airport after you clear customs and escorts you to your hotel. You’ll have some free time to explore Naples at your leisure or relax in your room. Get to know your fellow travelers at tonight’s included traditional pizza dinner made by the experts. Pizza was invented in Naples.

Day 3 - Naples

Discover Napoli this morning on an expertly—guided tour of the city. You’ll walk through the historic city center seeing sites such as the 14th-century Gothic cathedral, the Castel dell’ Ovo, home to the last Roman emperor, Romulus Augustulus and the neo-classical Teatro San Carlo. Descend into subterranean (sotteranean) Naples and see the city beneath the city as you wander through the incredible network of catacombs, aqueducts and underground passageways. Later, examine the extensive collections of Roman art and antiquities unearthed from Herculaneum and Pompeii at the National Archeological Museum, one of Italy’s most impressive museums.

Day 4 - Sorrento

Step back in time to the Roman Empire on today’s expedition to Pompeii. Buried under the ash of Mount Vesuvius’ eruption in A.D. 79, Pompeii’s temples, homes and arches remained perfectly preserved. Your walking tour takes you along ancient paved streets, past the impressive ruins to witness how wealthy Romans lived. You’ll see the Forum, the public meeting place; the lovely decorations of the Forum Baths; and the mesmerizing paintings of the Villa of Mysteries. Later, get up-close and personal with the legendary volcano on a trek to the still-active peak. You’ll be treated to lovely views of the surrounding countryside when you climb up to Vesuvius’ crater. Arrive later at your hotel in Sorrento in time to enjoy an included dinner.

Day 5 - Sorrento

Today’s full-day excursion takes you along the picturesque Amalfi coastline. Enjoy breathtaking views of crystal blue water and secluded beaches as you drive past terraced hillsides and lovely, whitewashed towns. Arrive in enchanting Ravello. You’ll tour Ravello’s alluring gardens and see Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone before setting out on today’s walk from Amalfi to Atrani, the tiny seaside town that inspired Dutch artist M.C. Escher. Return to Sorrento this evening, where you might choose to enjoy a local folk dance performance at our optional Tarantella Dinner and Show.

Tarantella Dinner & Show $79 USD

Tarantella Dinner & Show

Tarantella dancing is a centuries-old folk tradition in this part of Italy. Tarantella is the Italian word for tarantula, and the frenzied steps of the dance are said to be designed for sweating out the poison if one is bitten by a tarantula. Savor a locally prepared dinner at the Teatro Tasso, then watch a live performance featuring the intricate footwork of the tarantella, demonstrated by a troupe of authentic folk dancers. Please note: This optional is seasonal from March 1-November 1.

Day 6 - Sorrento

You’ll have plenty of time today to take snapshots of the coast or sample some gelato. Or join an optional excursion to the Emerald Island, Ischia, famed for its thermal springs and sandy beaches.

At the southern edge of the Gulf of Gaeta lies Ischia, "Italy's Emerald Isle." Travel today to this island noted for its beaches, pine groves, vineyards and thermal spas. A guided tour brings you to the towns of Forio, Lacco Ameno, Serrana Fontana, the town of Ischia and Barano. You'll also visit the Giardini della Mortella and enjoy free time for lunch. Please note: This optional is seasonal from mid-April to mid-October.

Day 7 - Sorrento

Today is free for you to explore Sorrento at your own pace. You could explore Sorrento’s lovely gardens and churches, browse the quaint shops along its cobblestoned alleyways or sit at a cafe and people-watch. Alternatively, partake in an optional morning adventure, as your Tour Director leads a walk along the Path of Gods in the villages of Positano and Nocelle. Be prepared for ­spectacular seascapes of russet-colored cliffs plunging into the sea and colorful boats dotting sandy coves. With a free afternoon at your leisure, you may wish to wander Praiano’s gardens and villas overlooking a terraced hillside or explore Positano on your own.

Path of the Gods $49 USD

On this classic, three-hour walk along the Amalfi Coast, you'll follow the mountaintop Path of the Gods, a steep, winding route that once served as the only connection between the towns you'll visit. Set out from Agerola, follow your hiking guide through terraced vineyards and forests, and stop along limestone ridges for panoramic views of the sea. Your walk concludes in Nocelle, a “lost village” perched 1,400 feet above Positano and only accessible by foot via two stone pathways. After the walk, a bus takes you to the heart of Positano to enjoy some free time. Please note: This excursion involves difficult walking on uneven terrain and is weather dependent.

Day 8 - Sorrento

On our Sorrento local villages walk this morning, experience a more quaint and traditional side of the Amalfi coastline. Follow the stone-paved paths that link villages, farms and olive groves together, while stopping to admire views of the nearby island of Capri. This evening, join an optional excursion to a mozza­rella farm to watch the cheesemaking process and enjoy a rustic dinner.

Venture into the Italian countryside on today’s visit to a traditional southern Italian farm. Your host will teach you the secrets of making mozzarella, a staple of Italian cuisine. Then indulge in a homemade selection of specialties typical of the Campania region at an authentic farm dinner, capped off with a tasting of limoncello, a tart after-dinner liqueur made from the best lemons in southern Italy.

Day 9 - Sorrento

On your last day in Sorrento, you might wish to venture down one of the cliffside paths leading to the sun-dappled sea and enjoy a day on the beach. You could also board a ferry for a optional excursion to the glamorous island of Capri, a playground for the rich since the Roman times—Emperors Augustus and Tiberius favored Capri as a vacation spot. Tonight, join your group for a Farewell Dinner.

Travel by ferry to the fabled Isle of Capri, a beloved resort since the days of the Roman Republic. Weather permitting, you’ll enjoy a mini-cruise around the island. Later, you'll enjoy free time to discover why everyone from Roman emperors to Sophia Loren wants to spend their vacation in Capri. If weather prohibits a mini-cruise, you’ll travel to the village of Anacapri, which offers stunning views of the surrounding scenery. Please note: This excursion is weather dependent.

Day 10 - Sorrento

This morning, a Go Ahead representative helps you transfer to the airport in Naples for departure. Board your flight home to the United States.
