Currency
The Russian ruble is the currency you’ll be using on this trip. Better rates of exchange are usually available in your destination countries rather than in the U.S. or Canada, although it’s worth ordering some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive. Please note: We recommend that you bring at least $1,000 dollars to exchange while on tour. U.S./CAD currency is most likely to be accepted for exchange if it is brand-new and clean.
At this time, it is extremely difficult to exchange traveler’s checks in Russia, and credit cards/ATM cards are not widely accepted. River cruise line representatives may also be able to assist with some changing of money.
For more information on money concerns in Russia, please consult a more detailed guidebook such as those offered by Frommer’s, Insight or Lonely Planet. When bringing cash, also make sure to take steps to protect your
money from theft.
