Weather
Be prepared for a wide range of weather conditions. Temperatures vary with changes in elevation and seasons. Day/night temperatures may differ by over 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Spring weather is very unpredictable. Stormy, wet days are common, but so is warm, sunny weather. Precipitation peaks in March and September. Spring wildflowers bloom from April through June, peaking in May.
Northern states in the western United States have pleasant summers with minimal humidity. In the summer the temperature averages around 70 degrees F during the day and between the 50s and 60s in the evening. In Wyoming, 64% of the year is filled with sunny days. In the southwest, such as in Arizona, summer rain begins in July and continues into mid-September. Most thunderstorms occur in the mountainous regions. This being said, 86% to 92% of the year is sunny without rain in Arizona. The sun quickly evaporates any rain that occurs, classifying its climate as semi-arid.
In Bryce Canyon, which receives the majority of their annual rainfall during the summer months, afternoon thunderstorms are common, but the water is quickly absorbed into the parched soil.
