Beijing
Owing to its 3000 years of history, Beijing is home to literally thousands of historical and cultural sites. Whether you are more interested in monuments, temples, parks, or shopping, Beijing will keep you busy. A few recommendations:
The Great Wall of China: One of the greatest wonders of the world, The Great Wall is an absolute must-see.
Imperial Palace Museum: For those interested in learning about the history and culture of China, a visit to the Imperial Palace Museum (known as the “Forbidden City”) is required as well.
The Temple of Heaven: The Temple of Heaven was built to show respect to the emperor of China, who was regarded by many as the "Son of Heaven.” It is a serene location which mixes history and beauty.
Xi’an
The Museum of Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses: One of the greatest archaeological sites in the world, Excavation in 1976 revealed thousands of life-sized Terracotta Army statues.
Mausoleum of Emperor Qin Shi Huang: This World Heritage Site is the tomb of the first emperor of China, who ascended to the throne at the age of 13.
City Wall: This massive city wall from the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644) is the largest and most intact Ming Dynasty castle in the world.
Forest of Stone Steles: This collection holds 3,000 stone tablets from different periods ranging from the Han Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty.
Mt. Huashan: One of the five best-known mountains in China, Mt. Huashan is famous for its breath-taking cliffs and its unique appearance.
Shanghai
From historical landmarks to parks and gardens; you will all find it here. The city boasts of a rich cultural and historical heritage, which is reflected through the numerous historical and cultural landmarks of the city. Some of the important are Jade Buddha Temple, Eric Moller's House, Lu Xun Memorial and Gravesite, Temple of the Town God, Old City Wall and Zhonggong Yidahuizhi. Some of the significant museums of the city are Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Museum of Arts and Crafts, Shanghai Natural History Museum, Elegant Art Gallery and Shanghai Science and Technology Museum.
Hong Kong
A modern, vibrant city, Hong Kong mixes old and new worlds. For a great view of the harbor, head to Victoria Peak. Some of the more popular tourist spots include Ripley's Believe It or Not! Auditorium, Madame Tussaud Wax Museum, and the kid-friendly Ocean Park. Stanley Market is a must for shoppers.
