The climate varies from the north to the highlands to the coast. Generally, autumns are mild and pleasant, with potential for cold and snowy winters. Average temperatures range from freezing in the winter to 85 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer along the coast.
The warmer months are the best to tour the country, with September gathering lower hotel rates but still good weather. Zagreb hosts more than half a dozen jazz and music festivals, starting in the spring through to the beginning of fall.
