Picos de Europa - Day 9

This excursion to the Picos de Europa features a guided tour of Cangas de Onis, the former capital of the Kingdom of Asturias, with a stop in the Sanctuary of Santa Cova. Once in the Picos de Europa National Park, you’ll take a scenic walking tour to the glacial Lakes of Covadonga. You'll also take in panoramic views of the Picos de Europa, the "peaks of Europe," so named because they were often the first sight of land for sailors returning to Europe from the Atlantic. Please note: This excursion is weather dependent.

Traditional Galician Dinner - Day 10

Evening w/ dinner (3 hours) - $79 USD

For a true taste of Galicia, opt to join your fellow travelers for a succulent mariscada, or seafood dinner, at a local restaurant in the region’s historic center. Savor the freshest seafood Spain has to offer as you choose from a variety of menu options. The catch of the day may include the following: steamed Galician blue mussels, mariner style cockles and Feira-style octopus, as well as such delights as ‘espalda’-style sea bass or grilled baby squid. Depending on which menu you choose, you may also sample a viera, a scallop savored with a glass of Ribiero, Godello or Albariño, three of the region’s finest white wines.

Rías Baixas Cruise - Day 11

Travel to the tiny fishing town of O Grove for a cruise of the Rías Baixas, the coastal inlets and estuaries of western Galicia. On a cruise through the town's harbor, you'll discover this region's maritime heritage. Seafood lovers will rejoice on this cruise you'll be treated to all-you-can-eat local mussels while you're onboard. Please note: This excursion is weather dependent.

Madrid Sightseeing - Day 1

A professional local guide leads a tour through Madrid to the Prado, an extensive art museum that began as the private collection of the Spanish monarchy. Masterpieces you’ll see here include Velázquez’s Las Meninas and Goya’s La maja desnuda. Next stop is the Palacio Real (Royal Palace), built by the Bourbon King Philip V. Once the seat of the most powerful court in the world, it was here that Spain officially joined the European Community in 1986. This castle boasts more than 2,500 extravagant rooms, along with a marble staircase and the swords of El Cid. Please note: This optional excursion requires advanced booking and payment at least 20 days prior to departure.

Toledo - Day 2

Your guided tour of Toledo begins at the city's massive Gothic cathedral, which houses 750 medieval stained glass windows and a treasure trove of golden artifacts. Gaze upon the cathedral's sacristy, containing masterpieces by the likes of van Dyck, El Greco, Rubens and Titian. After exploring the labyrinth of medieval alleyways at the heart of the city, you'll visit one of Europe’s oldest synagogues at El Tránsito. Please note: This tour involves some difficult walking over uneven terrain. Also, depending on the day of the week, the sites visited are subject to change. If the Synagogue of El Tránsito is closed, you’ll visit the Synagogue of Santa Maria la Blanca instead.

Traditional Spanish Evening - Day 2

Enjoy conversation, camaraderie and live music in a Madrid restaurant. Between courses, you'll be entertained by tuna music, an artistic tradition with its roots in Spain's universities. Tuna bands were once comprised entirely of poor college students who made music to help make ends meet. At tonight's dinner, you'll take part in this age-old tradition.
