Review of our trip to ROME Paris & London To whom it may concern: Let me begin by saying that, if this was the first time that we booked with Go Ahead Tours, we would never make the same mistake again. This trip was filled with disappointments from the very beginning, first with the cancelation of the Dublin extension followed shortly by the cancelation of the London Eye option and this was before our adventure began. We then received our flight information which informed us that we were to fly to Rome from Boston on September 05, 2016 on KLM Royal Dutch Airlines (KL2745). When our Limo Arrived at Logan we looked for KLM airlines but found none. After checking with many people at the airport we discovered that our flight to Rome was with Alitalia Air. This information was not specified on our flight itinerary causing us much distress. Upon our arrival we were escorted to our hotel to meet our guide Carmelo who gathered our group together, had us introduce ourselves to each other he then informed us that in addition to the London Eye being canceled, that A Day in Oxford and the Monet & the Landscapes of Giverny were also canceled due to lack of interest. He then told us we could use the time allotted to do as we pleased or REST in our rooms. This was one of his favorite lines as he repeated it very often. The fact is if we wanted to rest in our rooms we would have remained at home and not taken this trip at all. When we booked this trip our request to you was to have room assignments adjourning our friends from Texas Grover & Patty Downing who booked this trip on the same day as us. This never happened in fact in Rome not even on the same floor. Paris and London were not much better. On the days of canceled options and on free time days as well the four of us booked our own separate tour to the London Eye with another tour group and went to other places all on our own with no help from our guide. Whenever he brought us to a restaurant he would then disappear whenever he had a city tour or a special tour which included a local guide he would disappear leaving our group to a guide unfamiliar with our group. In fact one of our group was left behind at the Vatican for over four hours, when she finally reached Carmelo at the hotel he told her to get a taxi and get to the hotel. We thought he should have gone to get her as she was extremely distraught. If we wanted to book all things on our own we would not have needed your services. This trip with its many disappointment was terrible in comparison to our trip to Australia and New Zealand which was so wonderful that when it came to booking our current trip we did not hesitate in booking with your company not even considering another company. Australia was wonderful our guide could not have been better she could not do enough for any one in our much larger group. She escorted us and stayed with us in all our planned extensions and even in our free time brought us to additional places of fine foods and interest. This is what we expected from this trip as well. Sincerely Ray & Jackie Brodeur

Dear Jacqueline, We regret to learn that your tour did not meet your expectations. We are glad that a member of our Quality Control team was able to speak with you about your experience, as we take your feedback very seriously. Regarding the cancellation of your extension and a couple of the optionals, we certainly regret when this happens, and as a company of travelers who have experienced these cancellations first-hand, we can understand the frustration that comes along with it. That said, the reason we have minimum group size requirements is because, from an operational standpoint, we need a certain amount of people to afford to run it. For example, we need to be sure we can provide transportation, in some cases a guide, in some cases a meal, etc. Again, we regret that this was a disappointing way to begin your tour, and we will be sure to communicate this to our Operations team. Regarding your flights, your itinerary was operated by what is called a ‘codeshare,’ an alliance and cooperation between multiple carriers. Though KLM Royal Dutch Airlines was the company your ticket was purchased through, your flight was actually operated by Alitalia, and this information could be seen on your itinerary as well as your e-ticket. However, we understand that this is confusing, and we regret that this was not understood prior to your departure. We will be sure to speak with the Customer Representative you spoke with to discuss messaging going forward. With respect to room assignments, Go Ahead can never guarantee room placement, unless medical reasons require such an arrangement. Otherwise, room allocation is at the discretion of the hotel, and they must assign rooms according to party sizes and room capacities. Regarding our Tour Directors, they do not always attend each guided excursion or event, as sometimes they are busy arranging the evening’s activities or discussing logistics of the following day with a number of suppliers who work to orchestrate your tour, such as the bus driver, the restaurants, the local guides etc. Our Tour Directors oversee many moving parts of the tour, including but not limited to guiding the group from one place to the next, informing the group about the destination, and working with all of our suppliers to ensure a smooth journey. With regard to one of your group member’s separation from the group at the Vatican, we are sorry to hear that this happened. Though our guides do their best to ensure the group stay together, the reality is that tens of thousands of people visit the Vatican each day, and when the Vatican is packed as such, there is a certain amount of attention and effort required by each traveler to keep up with the group, particularly in such a highly regulated area. The flow of the Vatican is constant, and in many places, you are not permitted to backtrack for any reason. For example, once you exit the Sistine Chapel, you cannot go back in. These regulations are strictly enforced by the general Vatican security and Swiss Guard; therefore, it’s particularly challenging if a group member falls behind at this location. Again, we regret that this tour did not meet your expectations, but we are glad you were able to discuss your concerns with a member of our Quality Control team. If you have any further questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 1-800-597-0350.

GoAhead didn't forget a single detail which is perfect as a solo woman traveller.

Excellent time in Europe!!!

This was my first trip abroad, and I admit I was a bit apprehensive about how everything would work with the tour company. But, from the moment we arrived at the airport in Rome, until our departure 11 days later in London, our tour director, Monique, make things go so smoothly. She was very good at anticipating needs and made our trip a very comfortable experience. The local guides were also outstanding!! The accommodations were wonderful as well as the food (except England). The only disappointment was the hotel staff and food in London. Otherwise, the trip was amazing!! We have already set up our next trip!!! Thanks, GoAhead!!!

Dear Dan, We regret to learn that you chose not to use our guides or take advantage of the inclusions in the tour. We can see that you spoke with a member of our Quality Control team after tour, and prior to tour, you spoke with a number of our Customer Service Representatives. We regret that the explanation surrounding your flights appears to remain unclear and that you may have some confusions surrounding the tour itself. For example, we do not offer tours to Disneyland. If you would like to clarify your concerns or have further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach back out to our Quality Control team at 1-800-597-0350.

Not worth the money

I felt all Go Ahead did for us was arrange transportation and hotel rooms which we could have done on our own. Apparently Best Western is a preferred Go Ahead hotel. I never would have dreamed we would be staying in a Best Western with as much money as this tour cost. We were even changed from a nice 4 star hotel to a 3 star Best Western in Dublin. One of our paid excursions was shorted about an hour because the tour guide needed to return to the city. I will never be using Go Ahead again.

Dear Julie, Thank you for your feedback. We’re glad that one of our team members was able to speak with you regarding your experience, but we are sorry to see that they could not quell your concerns. Regarding your hotel change, your hotel was changed to the Best Western in Dublin because it is centrally located, as opposed to the alternative accommodations which are located by the airport. We always try to provide the most central location, which of course depends on availability. We are sorry to hear you were not pleased with the Best Western and will be sure to pass your feedback along to our Operations team. Regarding the paid excursion you mentioned, the length of this tour actually ran as long as it should have, which is approximately three hours. We regret if you had a different impression of the length of the tour, as we certainly don’t want you to feel disappointed. Again, we are sorry your concerns could not be resolved, and we hope you will give us a call if you would like to discuss your experience further. You can call 1-800-597-0350 and ask for Quality Control.

Excellent tour

My husband and I had been searching for the perfect tour company when we stumbled upon Go Ahead. I wanted the ability to do our own thing but have on "outline" done by someone else so I didn't have too much work ahead of me. Go ahead worked out great because we were only really with our group for travel and for one excursion and meal per city, (we added on Dublin too)! That way it wasn't like we were stuck in a massive group but still had a lot of great ideas from our tour director as well as people to hang out with in our free time if we wanted! I would definitely recommend Go Ahead, and we might be looking at doing another tour as well!

It sounds like you and your husband were able to strike the perfect balance. We're so glad you used your Tour Director as a resource for great ideas! It's wonderful to hear you would recommend Go Ahead, and we hope to help you plan your next tour soon! Don't hesitate to give us a call when you're ready.

Great balance!

Our trip had the best balance of guided group time and free time. Our tour director, Marianna, was wonderful and we would love to go on future trips with her as a guide! We were there in the off season which meant shorter lines at tourist attractions and a smaller group (11 travelers) through Go Ahead. We cannot wait to book our next trip through Go Ahead!

Hi Megan! We’re thrilled that you enjoyed this tour and that you found the itinerary to be well-balanced. We’re also happy that you experienced the benefits of traveling in the off season. There are some great reasons to travel outside of the peak travel times, such as shorter lines at historical sites. Thank you for sharing your experience, and we look forward to your next tour!
