Go Ahead has done it again!
This was our second tour with Go Ahead and, as with our Tuscany walk, the trip exceeded our expectations. Our guide went out of his way so that we could experience a detail or two that we would otherwise have missed. The hotels were clean, the beds comfortable and all the included meals were tasty. Our fellow tourists were intelligent, well-travelled and interesting. People should know that this tour includes some climbing. My wife and I completed all the ascents and were invigorated by the activity and awestruck with the views when we reached the summit. Art enthusiasts will enjoy the "close encounters" with Van Gogh in Arles and Cezanne in Aix-en-Provence. This tour accomplished the goal implied in the title: it showed us an exciting part of France in depth.
Provence: The gem of France
Bright yellow, clear blue, warm red--those are the colors of the tablecloth we bought in Nice, and the colors we saw all around us during our trip to Provence. Our tour guide told us delightful tales about everything we saw--even the trees had a story to tell. Some of the walking was a bit challenging, but we enjoyed everything about the trip--and we had the best meals we've ever had on a tour. We'd really recommend it for all.
Grand Memories
My trip to France was so exciting. The countryside is beautiful, there were no bad views. The small villages we stopped at were quaint with many interesting little shops. Found some beautiful pottery in one little village that the shop owner shipped home for me. The food and wine were the best, with the lavender creme brulee at the top of the list. The hiking was excellent, the sites breathtaking, our guide knew "everthing" no matter where we where. The tour of Fregonard Parfumeur in Grasse was educational and the retail store at the end of the tour was a good place to buy some lovely gifts. My favorite part of the tour was Giverny. I love Monet and getting to see the gardens, the lily pond and the bridge represented in so many paintings was a dream come true. A place I will have to return to someday. I would recommend this trip to anyone who loves France, good food and good wine.
Provence Wonders (sites, wine, food, & Ice Cream)?
We truly enjoyed our trip to southern France and Paris. We had a great time, visited all of the recommended sites plus little side adventures of our own, drank lots of excellent wine, eat wonderful cheese, was served some super food, and of course the ice cream was just out of this world… We would highly recommend a tour of southern France.. The local people were very kind & helpful to us and our tour group… We traveled September 2009. Most of our time was spent in the Provence region with our final two days in Paris. We traveled with fellow Arizonans that we met two years ago on our Alps trip via Go Ahead, too. The weather cooperated and we really enjoyed the countryside. We managed to see the sights of Paris but realize there was so much we didn’t have time to enjoy it all. Our Tour Guide did an excellent job. Recommend - GO AHEAD; You bet Yeah!!!!..
Another great trip with GoAhead!
Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed my latest trip with GoAhead. And, it seems the well-informed Tour Guide was instrumental in making the trip so informative and fun. Everything was wonderful.
The Perfection of Provence with Go Ahead Tours!
This trip is truly an experience that brings the dreams that we all hold about the area of Provence to life! Travelling past ancient architecture, tasting food with the spices and flavors of a unique and famous culture, testing your luck at Monte Carlo with all its majesty, or just wandering quietly past a river or through a market leaves you with a feeling of time stopped by magic. There are many activities that fill each day, but at the day's end, you can still have time to share your experiences with your fellow travellers over special dinner experiences with local food specialties. Prepare your ears for the musical cadence of the French language and people and don't miss this chance to visit a magical part of Europe!
Provence--a Paradise for the Senses
I used to think that the backyard-picked fruits and veggies from my childhood farm in MI could never be surpassed for their delectable taste. I was wrong--the foods I consumed on the Walking Provence tour in the markets and restaurants were in a culinary league of their own for indescribable flavor and freshness. The blast of colors from the market stands were rivaled only by those of Provence itself, from the burnt orange of the ochre mines to the breathtaking hues of endless fields of lavender. Walking Provence was an unrivaled sensory paradise.
Perfect Trip
Everything about this tour was perfect. It was perfect size , perfect guide, perfect pace, and perfect destination. My sister and I enjoyed this trip so much that we still talk about it all the time. We loved all the little hilltop villages, the markets, the food, the art, and especially the history. Everything was beautiful, but we were a little early for the lavendar to be blooming. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history and would spend time when we were on the bus giving us details about places we were going or places we had just been. One of my favorite things was the visit to Cezanne's studio in Aix-en-Provence. It was amazing to see where he painted and there were still some of his props that he used in his paintings! Another favorite of mine was the walk from the asylum where Van Gogh lived to St. Remy. All along the trail there were markers where Van Gogh had painted some of his most famous paintings. Overall, the walks were not difficult. And if anyone didn't want to walk, they didn't have to. It was a very relaxed and enjoyable experience. I would take that tour again someday.
