Walking the Amalfi Coast

March is a great time to do this tour - temps were 65 to 75 every day - perfect for walking, plus there are not hoards of tourists in March. The only issue was not everything was open, and the boats to Ischia are not running because there are not enough tourists to make it worthwhile for them. But it was nice to have a free day in Sorrento. Our hotel was so centrally located we could walk or take public transportation to anything we wanted. Naples was better then I expected - the hotel was gorgeous and well located in a safe and fun to walk around part of the city. The only part I didn't care for was the subterranean tour - if you're at all claustrophobic, just go with the group to the entrance, but stay above ground - there are plenty of things to see and do right near there, including a limoncello factory that offers free tastings. My friend & I walked from our hotel to the fresh seafood restaurants near the Castel dell Ovo and had a wonderful dinner while strolling minstrels serenaded us - a memorable experience. The hike to the top of Vesuvius is very steep and loose gravel - a local entrepreneur offers walking sticks for you to use for a 'donation' - I recommend using them. The hike is worth it because the views are spectacular. Several people on tour who had never been to Pompeii thought it would be dull and were fascinated, mostly because of our local guide who made it come alive. The first glimpse of the Amalfi Coast brought tears to our eyes, it is so beautiful. Walking to Atrani was easy and charming, and the gardens at Ravello are breathtaking. Perhaps my favorite day was the local villages walk - starting on top of the peninsula and following the path winding down to the sea was just stunning. We walked not only through villages, but through farms, past goats & cows, many friendly dogs, olive trees and artichokes, and woulnd up in a tiny fishing village where the locals were fixing their nets. I couldn't stop smiling. No, actually my favorite day was Capri. The boat ride around the island was incredible. I will never forget the unbelievable turquoise water, the coral hugging the rocky coastline, the ancient villages on the cliffs. Loved the Mozzarella Farm - great food & wine. Didn't do the Path of the Gods - bad knee - but did all the rest. Was surprised how many seniors were on this walking trip. It's an active tour because of the walking, but not because of changing to a new hotel every two days like many of the other tours. I liked that. If you want to feel like you're really in Italy, instead of trying to see the whole country in one trip, this tour is for you. Don't bring the kids.

Great food, wine, scenery & the best tour director

We just returned from this 10-day tour with wonderful memories and nothing but positive things to say about GoAhead Tours. We had a marvelous tour director and excellent licensed local guides. We finally got to see some of Pompeii. The Naples subterranean and archeological museum were impressive as well. The hotel in Naples was superior and included a delightful breakfast buffet right off the rooftop terrace. The rooms were spacious and included free wifi. We loved Sorrento and the full day excursion to Ravello and Amalfi was breathtaking. The hotel in Sorrento really was about location, location, location and we were easily able to use our free time to explore on our own. I have already recommended this tour to several of my friends. Oh, did I forget to mention, the food was soooo good. Thank you all at Goahead Tours.

The trip was actve, including both walking some incredible beautiful trails and spending time in historical sites and museums. The food, wines, towns and city were even more than advertised. I would recommend this tour to any traveler who is interested in seeing the Amalfi Coast.

My dream trip

This was our first trip out of the US, and it was everything I'd hoped for. I saw a TV show about the Amalfi Coast several years ago and that's when I started saving my money! The group activities were a lot of fun and the guides were great. There was a nice balance between group time and free time. The Path of Gods was beautiful and not to be missed. The pace was nice although I would have preferred longer walks. The hotels we stayed at were very nice and comfortable, and all of the group meals were yummy. I liked the tour aspect because Katia, the tour leader, kept us informed and on a schedule. She would tell us where and when, so we didn't have to think about anything. It was all done for us! I found this especially helpful since we don't speak the language and are not familiar with European ways. I can't wait to go back on another tour, maybe Tuscany??!!

Tour of The Amalfi Coast - October 6-15, 2011

The coastline was breathtaking and the Path of the Gods option, while strenuous, well worth the time and effort for the wonderful views, if not the excellent restaurant near the end of the path. Sorrento and Positano were highlights for us; simply wonderful towns. Vesuvius and Pompeii were breathtaking and all we expected them to be. Naples and Sorrento make the best pizza I've ever had; the secret's in the crust!

One of My Favorite Trips

Walking the Amalfi Coast was my eighth trip with Go Ahead and is one of my favorites. The variety of walks was excellent. The Path of the Gods was, by far, the most challenging hike I've been on but it was worth every sore muscle. The views are indescribable. The Mt. Vesuvius hike was also challenging but more that it was cold and windy rather than so difficult. Most of the other walks were just pleasant visits to towns, estates and gardens. You really need to be in shape to do the Path of the Gods walk. It is unique.

First trip with GAT

Amazing scenery! Well paced with optional free time. Highlights were the Path of the Gods hike, village walk and free day in Rome. Unfortunately it rained the day to see Capri. Very compatible group. Very knowledgeable tour guide. My next Italy trip will be the Walking tour of Tuscany with GAT.
