great trip with a lot of history
I thought this tour was great. I loved Budapest and Prague. I think that it would have been better if we could have been in Prague at least one or two days longer because there just wasn't enough time. Our hotel in Vienna was a little outside of the city with very few things around it which made it difficult to get arround. It would have been a better experience if we had been closer to things. The hotel in Prague and Budapest were in ideal locations. The tour director was really informative. At first he seemed a little cold and somewhat indifferent but he really warmed up to the group and shared with us a lot of personal information that made the trip really unique. Overall I was really impressed with him. I think a list of places to see, eat and mesuems would be something helpful to include since there are a few free days in the cities with a lot to do.
Too touristy
I felt like we were rushed at every turn because there was a tour on our heals. We were just on a tourist route, nothing special about it.
Great tour
Great tour
A wonderful trip!
The trip was terrific. Constantin was a wonder tour guide, extremely knowledgeable. Budapest, Vienna, Prague, and Salzburg were all wonderful, full of beautiful sights, good food, and friendly people. Another day in Vienna would have been good, or skipping an optional tour there for another day in the city.
A wonderful taste of central Europe.
A wonderful experience. The people on the tour were pleasant to travel with and the countries were beautiful and historical.
good trip
The trip was very nice the places where awesome, however our tour director wasn't very nice that made it a little uncomfortable. If he would've been a little nicer it would've been a great trip
Great tour! Great value!
Overall the tour was excellent! Budapest, Vienna, Prague, and Salzburg offer four totally different atmospheres that should be explored thoroughly to get the most from the trip. Highlights of the trip included: a sunset river cruise on the Danube and a day-trip to the Gellert Hotel and Spa in Budapest, climbing the interior scaffolding at Karlskirche to view the frescos in Vienna, dinner at the Strahov Monastery overlooking the city of Prague, exploring the 2nd largest castle complex in the Czech Republic located in Cesky Krumlov, and the view from the fortress as well as visiting Eagles Nest in Salzburg. Our tour director, Steve, was very helpful and knowledgeable regarding all of the destinations and provided interesting and relevant commentary during our bus rides through the countryside. The hotels were very accommodating, clean, and had helpful staff. Some members complained about the distance the hotels were from the city center and having to walk, however this tour does give advanced notice that walking is required for some parts of the itinerary. The included meals were representative of the specific country's cuisine and were appropriate for the cost of the trip. From this reviewers standpoint the trip was spectacular as far as overall value. It is not a cheap tour, but it is also definitely not the most expensive of it's kind. The value of this tour however is also dependent on what you choose to make of it! An open mind, a positive attitude, and a good pair of walking shoes go a LONG way!
Truly enjoyable
Enjoyed our group and guide
See many of the old city capitals
This trip will permit you to see some of the scenic and historic capitals. This is a great trip for those who love art and architecture. Do not miss the History of Art Museum in Vienna.
All in all, a good tour -- glad I went
Perhaps the best thing about this tour was the guides. The tour director was outstanding, as were the local guides. The local guides were amazing in their knowledge of their subjects, always willing (and able!!) to answer questions from the group, and very patient with those of us who had difficulty walking or climbing steps. I can't single any one out because they were all excellent in their own ways. We were lucky to have these wonderful guides show us their cities. I also need to say that everything went like clockwork. I doubt anyone gave it a thought that the bus was always on time (and the drivers very professional), that the guides always met us at the appointed places and times, and kept to the schedule without making us feel rushed. But everyone associated with this tour was very professional and dependable. BRAVO! It was difficult to tell from the written descriptions which optional activities would be most enjoyable for me. Some were described as "castle" tours when they were actually tours of "chateaux" (e.g., Godollo). For me, this meant looking at old furniture and clothing, seeing over and over again the opulence of the few Rich while the masses were starving. However, at one of these chateaux (Chateau Sychrov), we heard one of the best chamber concerts I have EVER heard in my life! The concert room had marvelous acoustics and featured a trio of musicians (G1 Partners) who were EXTRAORDINARY! The dinner provided after this concert was mishandled by the staff. Some of the dinners arrived much later than others, and, the dining room was swelteringly hot, which greatly reduced my enjoyment of the meal. Unfortunately, the weather was unseasonably hot in Vienna and Prague. This was nobody's fault, but I was less able to enjoy those cities in the 90 degree heat. But the hotel in Vienna had the most elaborate, remarkable, complete breakfast buffet I have ever seen. It included well over a dozen different types of bread and rolls, yogurts, cereals, meats, cheeses, spreads of various kinds, fruit salads as well as fresh fruits, etc. I wish American hotels would adopt such buffets! The most interesting cities were Budapest and Prague. The effects of communism are still apparent in both cities, though they are both making admirable progress toward stabilizing their economies and gaining full status in the EU. Their history (especially that of Budapest) is written on their buildings. The post-Stalinist architecture, the neglected upkeep of older buildings, the bullet holes in outer walls.... It was very sobering and edifying to come face to face with this history. The hotel we had in Salzburg was memorable for the view. We could see the alps and the fortress beyond the city rooftops from our window. And the hotel used their 15th floor restaurant for a breakfast room -- WOW! No better way to start the day! I'm very glad I took this tour. I would recommend it to others, whether they want the security of group activities or whether they like to explore on their own. I would probably recommend that they try the tour in the fall if they can, thereby avoiding the unpleasantness of the heat.
