My Trip to Turkey

Turkey is a beautiful country and there is lots to see. However, traveling over 2,000 miles by bus from Istanbul to Cappadocia was very taxing. You can shorten the length of the trip by eliminating Antalyia and Konya and perhaps flying from Ephasis or Pamukkale to Cappadocia. Also, the busses should be disinfected each night to rid germs and recirculated "bad" air. 35 people out of 37 were sick due to germs from one couple that infected everyone on the bus. Several people had to see a doctor and get prescriptives. At least 1 day of free time should be given in Istanbul to see some of the sites that were not included in the tour. Tour pace was too challenging even for seasoned travelers. The Whirling Dervishes were not impressive. Folklore show was a waste of time and money and should be eliminated. Eliminate Leather Factory; sales people were very "pushy" and irritating.

It was a Grand tour.

Turkey and our guide, were both excellent. There was never a dull moment. It was well worth the time and the money.

Turkey is an archeological love affair

The itinerary was perfectly planned. I came away feeling that my time, effort and money was spent in the best possible way. I would not change a thing in terms of packing an enormous amount of sight-seeing into the time allotted.

Grand Tour of Turkey

We spent many hours on the bus, which wouldn't have been so bad IF the bus had a toilet! To travel that many miles without a toilet facility on the bus was absolute torture. Although scheduled stops were made every two hours or so, this did not help for anyone who got sick, which most of the tour did because of an elderly couple who came on the tour, very sick. It was most embarrassing and humiliating to be caught in the middle of nowhere with no facility on the bus or anywhere nearby on the route. Therefore, I will not take another land tour with Go Ahead

One of my best trips ever.

Selcuk was the best tour guide I have ever had on any Go Ahead Tour. He was wonderful. He knew just when to pause for the desired effect.

Loved this trip!!!

From the first moment we met our guide Selcuk until we said goodbye to him 2 weeks later,we all were captivated by him and his country. We saw and did so much!!! Even the longer bus rides seemed to just fly bye--if you want to see amazing sites, have some wonderful food and be completely surrounded by centuries of history, this trip should be at the top of your list!!! I have been back from Turkey for less than 3 weeks and I am ready to return!!!! It was that wonderful!!!!

Interesting history tour

This was a very interesting tour and very fast paced. With the optional excurcions there was little free time which was fine with me. This tour needed to be with fewer people and several older ones had a hard time keeping up because of the pace. It needs to be emphasized that this was a challenging tour when older ones apply for it. Even though our tour guide was very knowledgable he seemed to be lacking a few social skills. We felt like he was annoyed with us some of the time. Overall it was a wonderful tour and i was glad I went.

Exceptional tour of Turkey..

Just came back from the Fantastic 'Grand Tour of Turkey'! We had a terrific time with a good group of fellow passengers, little chilly weather and a great tour director (memet). Food was initially disappointing and bland, as we were treated with lot of 'All you can eat buffets', but as we started visiting restaurants with 'a-le-carte' options, the choices became much better. The archeological sites were Fascinating, so was the Grand Trojan Horse. The trips on the road were pleasant, the flight connection was great, and we had enough 'shopping' time as well. Overall, highly rated trip with a Great Guide!

Turkey is a fabulous destination!

I can't stop talking about this wonderful trip. I found the pace great for me, just the right amount of information, scenery, shopping and down time. Our tour guide Selcuk was the key to the success with his tremendous knowledge, engaging personality and sense of humor. I appreciated how he wove current customs and data into the time we had on the bus between destinations so we really got a tremendous amount of history as well as current culture. Our bus and hotels were great, everything happened like clockwork without feeling herded. I was very thrilled with the different restaurants that were selected for our lunches - a lot of variety. The nice thing about this destination is that most people who go there on a tour are seasoned travelers and flexible and good natured and hungry for the information. I am amazed at the value of this trip and what we were able to do for two weeks including airfare.

Poor value

Overall just a bus ride with tour guide and large tourist trap hotels. Not geared towards education outside the scripted itenerary. There our tour groups that limit the number of people and give a much better cultural tour.
