We just checked Rome in our bucket list.
My husband and I have a list of places to visit in our bucket list and Rome, Italy is one of the top three. This trip has definitely fulfilled our wish and we can put a check next to it. Rome is such a wonderful place to visit if you are one of those who is fascinated with history, ancient times and works of great artists. David Macchi, our tour director is so knowledgeable about the history of Rome and he made sure that we did not miss out anything that is a place of interest. He was very accommodating and always concerned about everyone in our group. When the excursion to the catacombs was cancelled, David gave our group a walking tour of the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, the Spanish steps and other places of interest (for free). He even treated us to gelato with choice of 3 flavors. My husband and I have nothing but high praise for David. The next countries that are in our bucket list are Spain and Portugal. We hope that we'll have a tour director who is as good as David. And we'll definitely book our trip with Go Ahead Tour.
Eternal City
I thoroughly enjoyed this City Stay. Go Ahead arranged a direct flight into Rome on Alitalia, which was perfect. The hotel was average, but I had a room with a Romeo and Juliet style balcony that overlooked the street, which was nice. It was within walking distance to the Coliseum, Forum, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Repubblica, and countless churches and restaurants. Nicola, the tour director, was absolutely amazing. She had a wealth of knowledge and information about the area and was willing to share that with everyone. She has such a great personality and made you feel like no question was stupid or ridiculous. She accompanied us on most of the tours and helped out in any way she could. Yohanna, the tour guide for the Vatican was terrific, as was Marco, the tour guide in Florence. Sure, they cancelled the Imperial Rome tour, but I found that I was able to do that on my own quite nicely by just walking. Bring comfortable shoes! I found the food to be amazing and the people were the best. I ended up having several dinners with locals that I just met. I'm not sure that's entirely wise, but they were super friendly and I totally had fun. I would recommend this trip to anyone. Just of note, I would not recommend the Dinner with Tenors. Although it was entertaining, there was only one tenor and two sopranos. The room was packed and it seemed very impersonal. The food was average at best. And, they really should note that this is really a five day tour because two of the seven were travel days. The "stay" is really only five days. If I were to do it again, I would extend the stay for sure. But, those are just notes. I had an amazing time and would recommend this tour to any friend. Enjoy!
A Dream Come True
It was a dream come true for me and I was so blessed to have been able to go. I would recommend this tour to my friends. I had the time of my life and our tour director was the best. Thank you again for a great time.
Great Experience
Overall the tour was great. Our tour guide Nicola made the experience even more rewarding. She was extremely knowledgeable of the area and her personality was fantastic. We had some medical problems and she was able to steer us in the right direction to alleviate the problem so we could continue to enjoy our stay. She also made it a point everyday to see if there was anything she could do to help. Her knowledge of area eateries and attractions was also a great plus. Because of her amd her efforts our trip was even more enjoyable.
The best 50th birthday trip
On a scale of 1 to10, and 10 being the highest, Go Ahead Tour is a 20! From my flight, my hotel, the breakfast, the wonderfully educated and fasinating tour guides, which inspired me to learn more about the history of Rome, the fresco's of the Sistine Chapel, and Assisi, to study Bernini and so much more. I can not speak highly enough of this company without giving a shout out to Nicola, the Go Ahead Tours representative. What a lovely woman, who made my trip trouble free, gave great suggestions for eating in the area, set up tours, gave great tips for "when in Rome", it's because of Nicola that I will book with Go Ahead Tours again. Ireland is next! Thank you
Watch the traffic!
Everything was great until I got hit by a taxi!
It is what it says
Location of hotel was adequate. The fact that not enough people signed up for side trips was disapointing. The city guide was good.
Trips cancelled
I have never been on a tour that had so many side trips canceled. Which forced us to book comparable side trips through a local company that offered more for less.
Roma, Your must see part of the world
You've heard the saying, "TV or videos don't do justice." Mike and I have made many trips with Go Ahead Tours. But Rome!!! it is a place and tour that must not be missed. The tour guide, Daniella, absolutely magnificent. Rome, the city!!! And then there are the many other optional tours that should not be missed. The evening with the tenors and a fabulous dinner, the the high speed train eurostar, to and fromFlorence, the wine tasting in the Italian mountains, and of course, VATICIAN. One really neat attribute about the Rome City Stay is that counting the trip over and back, everything takes only seven day's, just perfect for newly weds and those who still work full time and have limited vacation. Best of all, Go Ahead Tours does all of the planning for you. All you need do is like Mike and I have done for the last 5 Go ahead tours. RELAX AND ENJOY.
A Trip to Remember
This trip was such a phenomenal experience. It was a trip through Providence College that I went on with a few of my best friends along with a bunch of other people that were soon to become my great friends. We saw all of the greatest sights that Rome and Florence has to offer and our tour guide Chris Morrison was better than fantastic. My most vivid memory was just sitting outside on the front steps of the Pantheon with a half-dozen other people just enjoying our gelato and talking about life and how great it was to sit there in front of the Pantheon (a place we had only learned about in our Development of Western Civilization course). I loved it so much!
