Paris Was Wonderful!
Paris was wonderful. Our hotel was in a great location close to restaurants, shopping, and the Metro. It was modern with a small bedroom and bath that had been newly renovated - and great staff. The hotel was attached to a restaurant and bar that made for a convenient for a nightcap after a day of sightseeing. The tours provided a variety of activities each day and time at the end of each day for exploring. We loved the trip to Versailles - a beautiful palace and grounds that went on for as far as you could see. The river cruse at night provided an opportunity for great photography of the Eiffel Tower and other great sites with a night-time glow. Our tour director , Patrick, was the bonus to the trip. He took us on walking trips complete with a how-to use the Metro, made great suggestions for restaurants, and matched our interest with the schedules each day. I would highly recommend this trip and can't wait to visit Paris again.
Paris City Stay and Venice City Stay
The city stay experience is excellent for travelers who prefer not to travel in a group. The value of the trip--air fare, hotel costs, transfer to and from the airport, access to the guide--is excellent. And on the Paris trip the guide was exceptionally helpful and provided a couple of free walks in interesting neighborhoods. He also gave a good lesson in how to use the metro so that my friend and I went all over the city in confidence. A similar lesson for the vaparettos in Venice would have been useful.
Bravo Go Ahead
I can't begin to say how I pleased I am with the tour; from flight, to room, to tours. However, the highlight was Patrick, our tour director. He was fabulous. He made us feel part of Paris. His words and advice were spot on. This particular tour was the right mix of guided and self guided tours. It allowed me the opportunity to plan my own days. With Patrick's guidance, I saw quite a bit of Paris in 5 days. 5 stars is not a high enough rating. Thank you Patrick and thank you Go Ahead. I look forward to my next adventure.
Paris Experience
Just back from our trip to Paris-and while the wonderful memories are the freshest, let me say that this trip was absolutely the best thus far! Patrick Long was our tour director and he was like having a family member while on tour. He provided detailed written instructions for us in terms of directions to sites, getting around the metro system, took us on walking tours of his adopted city and much much more. The hotel Mercure was very nice-wonderful croissants (among other things) in the morning, friendly staff and it was central to three metro stations. This trip dispelled any misconceptions Americans have of Parisians! They were friendly, went out of their way to accommodate and usually have great senses of humor. GO without trepidation even if you do not speak French! This was a dream come true for me and personally, cannot wait to go back! The weather was cool/cold this time of year, however, we had shorter lines and it was easy to navigate the sites.
Paris City Tour
Patrick the tour director was the best. He made everyone in my group want to go on the next tour with me. We all loved Patrick and Paris. Every time we think about this tour we smile . What a wonderful time
Dazzled by our Paris City Stay
My husband and I booked our Paris City Stay after not being able to make our trip to Machu Piccu. Luckily, Go Ahead let us change our tour to this one. At first we thought, why do a city stay with Go Ahead we can do this one on our own, but let me tell you are we glad we did. Our Tour Director Patrick was more like a private concierge. On our first day he showed us how to buy metro tokens, read the map, and take the metro. Then he taught us some key French phrases that help us thoughout the whole tour. He also explained some French etiquette to us and with that we found the French to be friendly and willing to work with us on our language barrier. They really appreciated our poor French and manners. Patrick also was available daily to help us map out our free days, which streets to take, where to eat, what to see in certain areas…it was really great. He also did a couple of walking tours that were not on our tour which was an added bonus. I would do a City Stay Tour with Go Ahead again in a heart beat! We miss you Paris!!!
Great Experience
This was a great tour. I'll have to do it again. I loved every minute.
Paris City Stay
Vanessa was an awesome tour director...making sure we had all the knowledge that we needed to get where we wanted to go. By American standards, the hotel room was small but overall the room was well equipped and nicely furnished. In Europe, though, the hotels don't provide wash cloths. Glad that we knew that ahead of time. The tour itself was wonderful. So glad that we took part in the optional tour of Versailles and Giverny (Claude Monet's home and gardens). Both were a great value, however, the tour of Giverny could have been more than 2 hours. The tour was a great value and I would travel again with Go Ahead Tours. This would be a great tour for first time travelers (we were) and single travelers.
An A+ Experience
This trip was a leap of faith as I got out of my comfort zone and traveled solo. It was so well worth it as I met some wonderful, probably life-long friends. I will cherish the time spent in Paris with them plus the time I spent 'alone' walking among the Parisians as if I were one of them. Many reviews mention our guide, Patrick Long, and I must, too. He is a gifted tour guide, down to earth, sensitive and will make your feel comfortable and safe. Speaking of which, the Metro system was another leap of faith as we were warned again and again about pick pockets in all enclosed areas. I spent the last day with friends Lynn and Dee in the morning going to The Rodin Museum, lunch in St. Germain and serious shopping for boots for Lynn; then off alone to Luxembourg Gardens on the Metro. I was so proud of myself as I didn't retrace my steps back to the Metro I got off of but kept walking and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon, eventually finding another Metro station and making it back to the hotel. The Mercure was very clean, comfortable beds and pillows and the staff was hard working and very friendly. My only hotel complaint was that the walls were paper thin and I could hear my neighbors (other travelers said their rooms were quiet??) In any case, you will most likely enjoy the Mercure Montparnasse. The breakfast buffet was excellent! Giverny is a must, Versaille was too crowded and I would consider dropping that one if you don't like crowds. I went to a David Braccini Vivaldi concert with new friends Walt and Tom at La Sainte-Chapelle, the highlight of the trip for me.
A great time
Just returned from the Paris City Stay. I really has a wonderful time. Every detail was taken care of, the Hotel Mercure was fantastic!! I miss breakfast already. Our tour guide, Vanessa, was terrific! She went out of her way to help us with every little question or concern. She was very knowledgable and fun to be with. Her separate walking tours with us were a highlight of the trip, and the Metro lesson was invaluable!!! One recommendation would be not to have the trip to Versailles on a Tuesday after being closed on Monday. It was so crowed with large groups of other tourists that some of us were actually pushed out of the way in order for them to take pictures with each other standing right in front of what we all were trying to see!!!! Maybe another day wouldn't be better but it is just a thought. I would not hesitate to recommend this company and tour to anyone! Keep up the good work. Thank you Dorothy Blass
