Holy cow
Ok, there is some pretty neat ruins in South American. Having a guide helped us to maximize the use of our time and see the best sites. Seeing Machu Picchu in person and up close was worth the trip.
Peru & Pachu Picchu
The most stress free travel and trip I have ever taken. Edwin our tour guide took care of everything for us and my group, to making sure our luggage was in our room to picking it up when we left each hotel. The bus was always waiting for us to take us to the next adventure. Even the weather cooperated. Our group was 18 and was just the right size to get to know everyone. My first GoAhead tour but not my last.
Great, but...........
Machu Picchu was on my "bucket list" so this tour was a no brainer. I loved the trip but there were a few things that I would change. First, the positives: Edwin, our tour guide was great. Our group managed to throw him a few curves during the tour and he handled them like a professional. The hotels were excellent, much better than I'm used to on a tour. The food was great and plentiful. Now the negatives: Tipping! We had several local guides and quite a few bus drivers. It was recommended that we tip each of them. If this is the norm, I'd rather see the tips built into the price of the tour. Machu Picchu. The name of the tour is "Ancient Peru & Machu Picchu". I'd like to see more than just an afternoon devoted to this site. For many of us on the tour this was the main draw. Getting into Agua Caliente/Machu Picchu Pueblo the afternoon before would allow us to spend the entire day touring the site and doing additional hikes to the Sun Gate, etc. We had the option of returning to Machu Picchu the following morning but that was entirely on our own and at our expense. Nazca Lines: We weren't told that this optional excursion required a FOUR hour bus ride each way. Had we known that in advance, several of us on the excursion would have opted out.
Ancient Peru and Machu Picchu
This is my first tour and a great way to start. The Tour director made our trip so much easier by anticipating our needs. The local guides were passionate and knowledgeable about their topic. I feel like I could pass a Peru culture and history test. This tour had definitely left a lasting impression in my travel journal.
PERU
Edwin, our guide was accomodating and personable. The hotel in Lima needed in room air condtioning and the breakfast was boring. There is not much to see in Lima. Warning regarding altitude adjustment in Cusco. Good food available in city. Enjoyed the textile outlet and gold/siver outlet. Wonderful food and accomodations in Machu Picchu. Indescribable experience. Amazon canopy walk was extremely strenuous. Saw no wildlife. Accomodations and food good. Depressing and embarassing to see natives perform for money.
Bucket List Trip
A must see destination. Words and pictures can't describe Machu Picchu or the Amazon. Peru was an experience of a lifetime.
Ancient Peru & Machu Picchu Tour; July 5th departs
Edwin was unbelievable- personable, knowledgeable, offered extra options to us such as Cusco Native dancers & laser water show, and was able to deal with a few demanding guests and emergencies. Overall though it was a great group of people. We had teenagers to folks who retired for years. We became one happy family. We even celebrated two birthdays in Cusco. Edwin fine tuned the itinerary and updated us daily. Food was out of this world. The hotels were superb. One lunch in the Sacred Valley was like a dream- terrific food and the ambiance out of this world. I would strongly suggest we eat lunch on the train to Agua Callientes to save time there and get up to Machu Picchu for couple more hours. Other than that suggestion, the tour was an A+. I just can't say enough good things about Edwin. I really don't think you can get any better than him! He was terrific! I can share photos later or email some to you.
great trip
our tour director Edwin Agreda was fantastic.Machu Picchu ruins are unblievible. our tour went very smooth. Eldon
Ancient Peru & Machu Picchu
Our trip to Peru was a dream come true! We enjoyed every aspect of it. The people were friendly, the ancient ruins were a wonder in accomplishment, and the scenery was spectacular! Our tour director, Edwin Agreda, took excellent care of us, and he was the best tour director we have ever had.
A Memorable Experience
I have to admit that even though I signed up for this trip to Peru in June 2011, I was very apprehensive even up to just before we left on July 5, 2012. But once we were on our way, it was one of the best trips ever. Thanks to GoAhead for such a wonderful plan and one of the best guides - Edwin Agreda - ever. He helped us go through the rigors of the airports, was always on time for everything, gave us our choice for sometimes when we should do things, always had the guide for the places we were visiting ready with transportation and always went with us. We were delighted that he could go with us on the Canopy Walk in the jungle. He speaks VERY clearly and very knowledgeable on all that we saw and would interpret for us if we couldn't understand the other guide! When we were sick and at some point most of us had a mild sickness, he was genuinely concerned. When people ask me about the trip, I tell them if they want to go, go with GoAhead and ask for Edwin Agreda. We also had a wonderful group of other travelers from various states and Canada.
