Good trip......bad food

The trip was fine. The food served for the included dinners was terrible. Always chicken, in Paris? Really? The absolute worst was the Monte Carlo excursion, which was an extra fee. The food, chicken again ,was average, and dessert was CANNED FRUIT COCKTAIL for half of us. It was as if the restaurant didn't know we were coming. Really disappointing. The Paris at night excursion was another example of ok food. Cute restaurant, cute preprinted menu of our meal, chicken again, of course. Then they served us a different dessert than was on the menu. ( not as good as promised) Very disappointing. We skipped some included meals, since it just annoyed us. We had some great, affordable meals on our own,

Lisa is excellent!!!

Our tour director, Lisa was wonderful!! Even on our free time, she helped us reach places in Paris by bus or Metro. She had no free time for herself since she spent all her time with us. My recommendation is that the Paris part of the tour should be extended. There is too much to see in such a short time.

One of our best trips

We had a great time on this trip! The pace was fast but not too fast, and we saw some great places like the Roman Amphitheater and Temple in Neimes, the Pont du Gard and the city of Avignon. Paris was of course wonderful and I am glad we took the extra two days there, because there are just so many things to see! Susanne out tour guide was very helpful. When our optional trip to Chartres cathedral was cancelled, she helped us buy train tickets and arranged to help us get there anyway. One word of recommendation: include Avignon in the next tour. Susanne told us it was not scheduled, but she took our bus there anyway and we enjoyed the city immensely. I would re commend future tours stay at a hotel there rather than in Aix en Provence. Way more to see!

Enjoyable

Overall, good tour, saw everything I wanted to see, althought could have spent a little more time in some places. Was not thrilled with hotel in Paris, and a couple of the meals that were included. Mainly the 1st night in Nice & the entree in Monaco, appetizer was excellant..

France

Overall the trip was a great value. Some of the meals were a bit disappointing, but certainly not what I would call bad. The hotel in Paris had a few little issues -- ac didn't work properly and the room had a sewerage smell (so really having the window constantly open was a blessing). The other hotels were certainly more than adequate and the people on the tour were lovely.

My First trip to France

I had a wonderful time in France. I enjoyed Nice and Aix en Provence best for it's small town feel and great little shops. It was a cultural experience. In Paris one needs to spend more time because there's so much see the absorb. We did take day trips outside of Paris, Versailles and Giverny which were beautiful and totally worthwhile, but no enough time in two and half days. Overall I had a great time on this tour especially traveling alone, my fellow travelers were very nice folks.

My trip of a lifetime.

Our tour directror, Linda R. was excellent, very caring, informative, and always there. She gave above & beyond) It was a well-rounded trip, giving an excellent overview of France, history, scenery. Brian H. who guided us at Versailles & on the City tour was very informative, really knew his stuff and was very personable. We were a little too rushed in Monaco, disappointed that we got there as every thing was closing down & couldn't get into the cathedral. Too much time spent at the restaurant (in Monaco)& dinner was not very good. We should've been given a choice of at least two encores. I think we had too much free time in Provence, would've rather had more time in Monaco or Paris. But all in all it was a delightful trip with delighful fellow travellers.

40th Anniversary & Counting....

We had a wonderful trip to Nice, Provence & Paris with Go-Ahead Tours. There were so many beautiful sights to behold! Our tour guide, Susanne, was informative, humorous and very intelligent. She gave us historical perspective on each of the areas, so we would understand the significance of the stop. She was able to manage a group of 28 very different people, with differing agendas, and make sure everyone had a good time. There was ample time for us to explore on our own, yet enough structure that we didn't miss out on important sights. My one criticism is the included dinners were less than stellar, but we were able to find other wonderful places to eat close by our hotels. I would definitely recommend this itinerary wholeheartedly to any Frankophile, any Foodie, or any Romantic soul. I'm so glad we went.

Amazing Tour Director.

We had the good fortune to have Susanne Danks as our Tour Director and she was outstanding! Susanne was knowledgeable, funny, appropriately irreverent, and very well organized. Most importantly, she infused everything we experienced with both a palpable sense of history while still bringing into sharp focus the joy & beauty of all the things we see, touch, hear, smell and feel today. In short, she gave us France.

April in Paris

Well, not exactly "April" in Paris, but close enough. We departed from NYC on April 30, 2012, for our Riviera, Provence, and Paris tour (we did the trip in that order). We found the value to be excellent in terms of what was included for the price. Our tour director was well organized, well prepared, well spoken in three languages, and well informed on all aspects of history and culture which she shared in an interesting way through out our eight days in France. Above all, she was compassionate, kind, fun, and always there to help. As an added bonus, Pauline Frommer was an additional tour guide on this trip. She too was just wonderful. We LOVED our hotel in Nice, found the hotel in Provence to be a step down from that, and the hotel in Paris to be adequate as well. All were clean, full service, and conveniently located to area points of interest. We hesitated to go on a tour for my husband's first European vacation for fear of getting tired of traveling with the group all the time. This tour allowed plenty of free time for us to go off on our own which we did on several days. We enjoyed a very nice mix of tour time and alone time. Nice things about the trip: our tour director (Linda, you ROCK!), clean, comfortable transportation thoughout France, portage of our heavy luggage (we never touched it once we landed in France until we landed again in NYC), ease of getting around safely in a foreign country. What could have been better: we felt one extra excursion to Monaco was not worth the extra charge as we spent most of the time eating an inferior meal and not at the Monte Carlo casino we wanted to experience; on one occasion we felt rushed to leave a place we LOVED (Caissis) so the tour could proceed to another place we didn't really care to see where we wasted time which could have been better spent. That only happened once, so overall, we rate the tour experience with high marks. This tour is especially good for folks who might be timid about going to a foreign country on their own. It is also good for those traveling alone as many on this tour were doing so and friendships developed quickly. Because the age group of people on our tour was mostly folks in the late 50s to late 60s (very few were in their 40s), I would not recommend the tour to young people who are looking to socialize on the trip with others in their peer group. Overall, the experience was positive and glitch free which is always a plus when traveling.
