Broken ankle in Paris
My trip was cut short 3 days early because I fell over some stairs & broke my ankle. I have to say my Tour director (Thierry) was the best thing that could have happened to me under the circumstances!!! He took care of me as if I was his own mother. He took care of the flight home, taxis to the airport, flight changes so I could fly direct. He brought me meals (3 a day) for 3 days. I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW CARING HE WAS. I was so glad I had him since I do not speak ANY French at all. He stayed with me until 3:00 am in the ER, I just can't say enough about him. What a kind & caring man!!! And I can't do anything to repay him. My trip was wonderful up to that point but if it hadn't been for Go Ahead, their ins. package & Tour director Thierry & would have had the most miserable trip of my life. But I was treated like the Queen!!!
Dissappointed by limited access.
It was nice to have a guide to help us but the tour itself didn't provide access to enough major attractions. On previous tours our groups would see sites and have priority entrance to main attractions but on this tour there was much too much looking from a bus. I was dissappointed that no major Paris attractions were included.
Really enjoyable tour
I really enjoyed the tour and the excursions but would have liked to have had a little more time in Nice to see some of the museums etc. Cassis was a great experience as well and I would have liked more time there, too. There is just so much to see I know that you guys are trying to give us a good overview but the travel day between Nice and Aix en Provence seemed a little too stressed and busy but it would be hard to say what to leave out. I was especially delighted with the hotel in Paris. It was a great experience and in a very nice area and close to the Metro and all the conveniences. Every effort was made to make me fee comfortable, safe and included as a solo traveler.
A Disappointing Experience
I learned less about an area on this tour than on any other I've taken. The director seemed to be very unfamiliar with Nice, Aix-en-Provence and the Provence region in general and needed to read from Rough Guide's Provence and the Cote d'Azur to give us information. The included dinners were terrible, as was the dinner included in the optional Monte Carlo excursion. There definitely was the impression that because we were a tour group, we were served sub-standard food. The hotels in Nice and Aix were nice but not centrally located; in both cases, however, there was easy access to trams or buses. The hotel in Paris was great, a beautiful facility on a quiet street in the lively Montparnasse neighborhood.
Interesting variety
I enjoyed the variety of sights, from Roman arches and aqueducts to the street markets. The hotels were comfortable and well-located for independent sight-seeing. The director, however, didn't give us sufficient information in a timely manner and seemed disorganized.
Good Trip
Overall, the trip was good. Positives were a good tour director, Helen Sheehan, with extensive knowledge and experience in the region; bus tours to Cassis, Nimes, and Roman ruins; TGV train ride to Paris; visits to Versailles and Notre Dame; and our tour of the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Negatives include poor airline schedules and accommodations, basic hotel accommodations, average at best dining selections for introductory dinners, and lack of support from goahead tours dealing with delayed luggage issues. It was our 30th wedding anniversary and we enjoyed the chance to discover the Provence region and life in Paris. The highlights of our trip were the Eiffel Tower and exploring different areas of Paris.
Nice and Paris
Everyone should see Paris for the history, but then VISIT Nice!
Great trip!
Beautiful weather for the most part, fantastic tour guide, good hotel selection - only negative is that the included group dinners were not indicative of the region and were very disappointing. Other dining choices made personally by our tour guide were excellent.
Good Trip
Overall, this was a good trip. The excursions were interesting and diverse. I did have an issue with the included dinners and one optional dinner in Monaco. These meals were disappointing, to say the least. I expected much better quality. I would have preferred a reduced rate with no included dinners.
Paris, Provence and the Riviera Tour
The Paris, Provence and Riviera Tour was a life changing experience for me. I met many wondrful people from all over and saw so many beautiful, historic and memorable things. I would go on other Go Ahead tours and even go on this one again.
