wonderful trip!!!
LOVED it!!
great hotels
Again, GoAhead booked great hotels for this tour. One was a bit off the beaten track but some "down time" was welcome. The Trulli houses were very interesting to see and I loved having a few hotels within walking distance to the beautiful beaches.
perfect - great description
It was a fabulous trip. The itinerary offered something for everyone from history, archeological sites to great shopping! The tour included excellent choices for stopovers and visits and we covered just the right amount of area for the length of time. The individual guides were very well informed and open to questions. Our tour director, Chiara, was fantastic!
Trip of a lifetime
The scenery was just beautiful. Our trip just happened to be when Southern Italy got hit with the worst heat wave in 100 years. The day we did Rome was 107 degrees. Ostuni is so vey different then anything I have ever witnessed, but my favorite has to be Alberobello and the Trulli houses. You must sign up for the wine tasting/dinner, even if you don't like wine (which was great) because the atmosphere, the food and people are just so nice. Loved Sorrento, great for shopping.
Puglia & Southern Italy
This is a good tour for people who have done Northern Italy and would like a taste of southern Italy. The pace was comfortable. The towns visited were good to see but not as impressive as the sites on the north. The Trulli Village was a good site to see. Sorrento is a good place to go back to. There wasn't enough time to go around Sorrento if you take the Capri optional trip. Will probably have more time to spend in Sorrento if we take the Almalfi Coast Tour. The boat trip around Capri was great! The walking visit to Capri town was great! I just hoped that there was time to visit Anacapri as well. The welcome dinner definitely can be a lot better. As Naples is the 'pizza capital', the welcome dinner was at a nearby pizza restaurant. The service was poor. A table from our group did not get their orders until 15 mins before we leave. The restaurant was full of customers that looked like from other tour groups. There was only 1 person making the pizza so service was very slow. The other dinners including the optional ones were good. The food is delish! It usually is in Italy anyway. I just wished that there were more variety of vegetables. It just seemed that zucchini and eggplant was served at every dinner service (included and optional).
OMG!
A beautiful part of Italy that is less "famous" to Americans. Excellent tour. Pace is rather intense, but you do see an amazing amount of sights. I wish there were one more day in Sorrento... I chose the side trip to Capri (how could I not? It was CAPRI!) but in doing so, missed the day in Sorrento. Excellent bus driver (Guiseppie). Our guide, Chiara, was extremely knowledgable and personable as well. Everything ran pretty much ran like clockwork. This was my second trip to Italy with Go Ahead. My next one will be to northern Italy as I simply can't get enough Italy! Oh, and it WILL be with Go Ahead...
Extremely interesting trip, unusual sights
The trip was wonderfully coordinated and I had a chance to see two places which are difficult to reach on your own: Castel del Monte and Matera, both Unesco sights. I was waiting for this NEW trip
Great Trip
We had a great time seeing Puglia, it was a new experience for all of us. I would love to go back.
A "New" Italy to Discover
As far as I could determine, no one in my group had any idea of the many wonderful things that were to be discovered in Pulgia. A few promo photos of Alberollo, with it's stone roofed houses, seemed to be the main reason that most of us were there. However, the food, history, hill top villages and the beautiful Adriatic Sea proved to be far more than just "frosting on the cake" for this trip.
More Italy
So many people think they have been to Italy until they find Puglia. Then, and only then, do they meet the real Italians, have fresh food, and see the wonders of Puglia. The group was filled with travelers who had never been to the boot heel of Italy, and everyone enjoyed the special treats that Puglia had to offer. I wish we had more time in Puglia--it would have been better to fly into Bari instead of Naples. I would have liked to have less hotels and more time in Puglia. But then we would miss the boat ride around Capri, which was magnificent.
