Great trip!
This trip was so wonderful. I had been to London before, but this trip was a whole new experience because I did things I didn't get to do the first time. Go Ahead was very accomodating with everything. On our free days, our tour director helped us get tickets to places early so we wouldn't have to wait in lines, and she made sure to tell us what the best times were to go to places so we wouldn't be stuck in crowds. I completely enjoyed my vacation, and look forward to my next GoAhead trip!
City stay in London March 10-18 2012
This is a great concept! There was just enough activity to give us a good grounding yet not so much so that we could venture out on our own. Our tour guide Kay was delightful and knowledgeable about the city. I would love to go on another one. You should offer many more additional stays like these to other destinations!
May just want to move!
Everyone in London was so kind, and we had such a wonderful experience that I have actually thought about moving to the UK. My last trip with Go Ahead (Edinburgh and the Scottish Highlands) made me feel just as much at home as this one. Thanks especially to our guides - Reuben in Scotland, and Kay on this trip to London!!
London at its best.
A great way to see London and its environs in depth. Trips to nearby towns easily doable - also went to Greenwich, Stonehenge, Bath, Oxford, Cotswalds, Stratford, Canterbury and Dover. Loved using the Thames Boat tours to get around.
Well planned and organized trip
With the exception of the hotel, (a great location, but under renovation at the time), it was a perfect trip. Our guides were very knowledgeable, and the choice of side trips was very good. Good value for the money.
Hassle Free Trip
The London City Stay was perfect for an independent traveler like myself. The time consuming details of finding a flight, getting a well located hotel, having transportation to and from the airport are all taken care of. The presence of a local Go Ahead guide in the hotel was a great help in planning my day. Of course, you can always take advantage of the planned excursions offered by GAT. It was such a good experience and such a good value that I'm taking my next city stay in Paris next month.
trip of a lifetime
I have always wanted to visit London and now that I am retired, this is the time.
I love London
Although I did not use the services of the tour director, I found her to be vivacious and charming. This is my 10th trip to London, and I went there to be able to see things at my pace which never hapens on guided tours. Don't get me wrong tours are great and give a nice taste, but this time I wanted longer to see the Tate Modern, Abbey Lane, the British Museum. This trip fitted my needs. We were in a convenient location. I hope to do it again. I am a tru e Anglophile!!!!
London City Stay
Great tour and tour guide made it really something to remember. One of my favorite actors is Martin Shaw and I have always wanted to see him in a play if I had a chance. So one morning I told this to our tour director and the next day she told me that he was in a play in London that week. So my husband and I went and got tickets and saw him. Our tour director (Kay McEntire) made this an experience I will never forget. She really went over and above what we expected.
Reluctant group tourist - converted
After 25+ years of doing my own travel arranging I was somewhat reluctant when dad called and said "Call Go Ahead tours, we are going to London in November."The staff was very cooperative in booking my choice of airline and accommodating the extra leg from Hawaii to ensure we arrived with the rest of the family. The city stay style of tour was very much like the way we travel - a room and flexibility to do what we want when we want. (Living in Hawaii I know what the tour buses miss) The guide was great and she made it easy to find the things we wanted to do meeting our limitations because of jet lag and short daylight hours. Since the late fall is the rainiest time in London outdoor sight seeing was interesting most days but since there are hundreds of museums and galleries to see that keep you dry. Again I thank the guide for teaching us the tube basics the first evening so that we could get around the city quickly and efficiently. The first thing i did after getting the dates was look up a race that i could do (I travel to race these days) and found a 10k run at Greenwich Park. As I was training for the Honolulu Marathon this was going to be fun to do a short fast race in two hemispheres - not many places one can do this. The Movember 10k was really fun and supports a great cause. My wife enjoyed the wide variety costumed runners while went off and ran the fastest 10k I have done in at least 20 years (0:51:28) - low 40s much faster than the ~80 that we deal with in Hawaii year round. After the race had a great time checking out the 0 meridian line and the history of longitude and navigation timekeeping. The flexibility of the city stay style of tour is reflected in my ability to do the race yet I was able to see Stonehenge and Bath on a guided trip while my wife was in the heart of London pursuing her dream of studying needlepoint at on the embroidery houses that supplies emblems for much of the British military. She found out more about the history of the craft then in several decades of study in the US. While some of the younger member of my group didn't "get" the hotel. i personally liked the more authentic (English) nature of the hotel which had at least been upgraded to individual baths. Except the construction barriers causing some confusion for the taxis, the location was excellent - close to the Tube and much of the nightlife of the Kensington district of London. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised that the city stay actually fit my travel style and i look forward to a future tour with Go Ahead.
