A truly enjoyable experience...
This tour was a nice introduction to London, Paris and Rome. It is not possible to see everything in 11 days, but it does highlight the best each city has to offer, giving one ideas about what to see and do on future visits. As for the tour, hotels varied in quality. The hotel in London was decent. It was near attractions and close to a tube station. The hotel in Paris was in a quaint neighborhood in Montmartre, making it necessary to rely on the Metro to get to the sights in the center of town. This wouldn’t be so bad if this was a city stay, but when one is only in town for three days, a hotel closer to the center of town would have been more convenient. The hotel in Rome was in a very isolated section of town and very far from any sights. There were restaurants nearby, but not much else. Go Ahead should really consider using another hotel in Rome. The various tour guides were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic, always ensuring that the group was having an enjoyable experience. Our tour director, Paul, was great. He made transfers between cities easy and as stress free as possible. During our free time, he also took those who were interested on side trips to Montmarte, the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon. He provided directions, did daily wake up calls and handled our luggage. As this is my first tour with Go Ahead, I am not sure if this is the norm, but I greatly appreciated all that he did on this trip. The included meals were the best in London and awful in Paris and Rome. My review is based on the vegetarian options. Breakfast in London was good, but the selections in Paris and Rome left much to be desired. Eggs were always runny. The welcome dinner at the Tower Hotel had many tasty choices. The included dinners in Paris and Rome were in local restaurants, but the food was surprisingly bland or undercooked. As an example, in Rome, the pasta was very al dente and the salad seemed to come from a prepackaged bag one would buy at the supermarket rather than a local market. It would have been nice to order from the menu as I saw some choices that would have been better preferable to the dishes served. If you sign up for optional excursions, be prepared with alternative plans as they will be cancelled if the minimum number of individuals required do not sign up. I had three excursions cancelled on this tour and Go Ahead does not give advance notice. Overall, I enjoyed my experience with Go Ahead and would not hesitate to book another tour or recommend them to family and friends.
London, Paris & Rome
My Fiance and I traveled with Go Ahead Tours in the Spring of 2012. In one word: amazing! We were a little bit unsure of the idea of a tour company, but figured as first time European travelers it would be the "safest" way to travel. We were not disappointed. Go Ahead Tours balances the perfect amount of included sight-seeing with optional on-your-own-time. Our tour guide, Pascal, was amazing and so knowledgable of every aspect of the cities we visited. He had tips on the best bars/restaurants to visit, the most direct public transportation to take, and had fun facts about the cities on the bus rides to/from included dinners/excursions. He really made our trip all it could be (request Pascal Wilson if you do this tour!) After our first tour with GAT we decided it was the only way to see Europe if you have a limited time frame. We have recently booked tour number two (Historic Germany) for next year! We would definitely recommend Go Ahead Tours to any traveler interested in seeing all of what a destination has to offer!
Londo Paris Rome
We just took a tour to London Paris and Rome with go ahead tours. This was our first trip with a tour group..I have to say it was amazing from the Tour Director Paul who did an outstanding job!!!! It was a great experience from the sights the ameneties and everything. I would definitely recommend Go Ahead tours. Thank again Robert Saxen
Hectic, but great!
I just came home from the London, Paris, Rome trip. The most remarkable thing about it was the tour director, Joel. He was so knowledgeable, helpful and funny. He added a tremendous value to the trip. The excursions were all enjoyable, both the included ones and the additional ones. The only criticism I have is that the London hotel, while very nice, was way far away from downtown London and there was pretty much nothing in the area of interest - no shopping nor any restaurants of interest. The Rome hotel was in a section of Rome with good shopping and restaurants, but also very far away from downtown Rome and it was getting expensive to take cabs to get there. Go Ahead does not guarantee the hotel until a month before the departure date, so you don't really know what section of the cities you will be staying in. But all in all, I think the trip was a good value for the money and it was a lot of fun.
Best of the Best
Without a doubt this was the best tour guided trip we have ever taken. Accomodations were very good, a little smaller than what was expected but being from America I believe we are spoiled. Travel was greater than expected from the airplane travel to the high speed train from London to Paris. Individual tour were better than anything I've experienced in the past. The tour guides were extremely knowledgable in knowing their specific touring areas. The wife was in tears on her birthday standing in Paris at the Arc De Triumphe and the Eiffel Tower in sight. The most amazing individual on our tour that brought everything and everyone together was our tour director Pascal Wilson. Without a doubt he is the best tour director in the travel business today. The only down side on the entire trip was nothing to do with GoAhead Tours but with the airline personnel leaving Italy charging us 70 euros to ship our carryon luggage home.
Highly recommend!
My husband and I were very satisfied with this trip, and we're planning the next one. Our tour Director, Joel, was extremely knowledgable, entertaining, fluent in the languages of all the countries we visited (London, Paris, Rome), patient, selfless, energetic, and an obviously thoroughly-trained professional. He was very helpful in countless situations throughout the tour--detailed instructions, suggestions, and safety tips in every city for those wanting to venture out independently (including restaurants, metro/underground, busses, and taxis); meticulous tracking and counting on each excursion to make sure no one was left behind; follow-up/feedback on each excursion. Besides great personal attributes, it's clear that Joel is the product of a very well-run organization. Highly recommend GoAheadTours.
So much to see, so little time!
My husband and I had an excellent time on this trip. We felt like we got to see so many things in such different places all in 11 days. It was really neat to see how each city differed not only in architecture, but in food, landuage, and lifestyles.
My First Taste of Europe
This tour was fantastic. Not only did I get to see new parts of the world, the tour itself was so much fun. I got to meet others my age on the tour and our director was the very best. Can't wait to travel again someday. This trip was a high school graduation gift from my grandparents. My Grandmother and I shared the experience together.
Trip of a Lifetime!
Each city tour was unique, fun, and informative. The exposure to history and cultures outside of our own country was life changing. We had an excellent tour director (Joel) who was very knowledgeable about each country and who made us feel safe, giving just the right amount of guidance and time on our own to explore. We would love nothing better than another Go Ahead tour with Joel. We have already been recommending Go Ahead Tours to the people that we have told about our trip.
It was okay
I thought the price was misleading online because when we called, it was about a whole grand more than advertised. Also the hotels as advertised on their website did not match the ones we stayed at. It's not a big deal because the hotels were decent, but just would like the site to be more consistent because the ones online looked much nicer. Plus, we paid for optional excursions that were canceled without prior notice, and weren't notified until the first day we arrived. Why would they even check for availability, then take our money, and confirm the excursion if it's not guaranteed? Tip: Find your own excursions...they are cheaper and you can get almost anywhere with the metro. You have to plan your own excursions anyways, so you're pretty much on your own. The so-called included "tours" are half day tours in each country that last about 3 hours and you're pretty much on the bus the whole time listening to the lady ramble on...some weren't very good. Since one of our many excursions was canceled, we asked the tour director to show us on the map where to find a traveling agency and he said it was "somewhere on this street". I'd think if they canceled our excursion, they should be a little more helpful and explicit, so we walked around aimlessly for about an hour until we made a few phone calls to the hotel, and they gave us the exact address. Our tour director was a nice guy and willing to answer questions, but he wasn't very outgoing or took the initiative to give us suggestions. We always had to approach him and ask him where to go or how to get somewhere. Also, a few delays with transportation was not thought out well because we got pulled over by cops for about an hour or more due to the luggage compartment on the bus being too small, and waited about an hour or more delay for an air show for France's Independence Day to finish before flying to Italy. That gave us less time to explore in each country. I understand things happen, but the choice of dates or buses could've been more thought out of in detail by Go Ahead. I think if it's your first time going to Europe, Go Ahead is okay because they do take care of your plane, transportation, hotels, and a few meals, as well as a tour director to turn to when you have questions, but it wasn't the best experience for me overall.
