Greece trip
Great time.
The trip of a lifetime
We just returned from our Italy/Greece trip & had the time of our lives! There was a great balance of planned time & free time. The tour sites were awesome & the tour guides were very informational, which added to the whole experience. We saw all of the popular sites & also some that we weren't as familiar with. Our tour director was excellent making the trip fun & interesting. She gave us tips, information about the countries/cultures & provided ideas for things to see on our free time. We made many friends in the tour group & we've even kept in touch after returning home. I would definately recommend this trip to anyone considering it.
Lots of History and Culture
What a great trip, so much to see and do. Rome is a "Must See" city and Sorrento is sooooo beautiful. What a neat little place to hang out in. Shopping in Italy is always fun, but Sorrento is so quaint and fun. Greece was full of surprises. I didn't know about it's history, and it had the best food ever ! Loved the wine and Greek salads. Fun shopping in Athens too! IF you can walk - its a great place to go and explore. Sept. offered perfect weather without all the crowds. Perfect time to go.
Excellent value
GoAhead takes care of everything and ending the day in a marvelous hotel doesn't hurt. Perfect pace, well organized and great location for hotels. Bravo!! We had a great time and will be back next year.
Trip to Italy and Greece and Italy
First I have to start by saying that I very much enjoyed Italy and parts of Greece. I feel that combing two countries into one trip was too much. I would have like to have spent more time in Italy alone, instead of feeling rushed through both countries. The two disappointments for me were the vatican tour and the 7 hour ferry ride to and from Santorini. The vatican tour was extremely crowded and I felt rushed. I understand that Go Ahead can't do anything about the extreme crowds, but I didn't feel like an afternoon of only a few short hours was enough time to take in such a monumental moment in my life. I didn't feel as if I saw enough there that day. Also the ferry ride to Santorini was not very well described in the Go Ahead tour information before booking the extension. For some reason our tour director booked seats outside on top of the ferry for us on the way there and as it was early in the morning it was cold outside. Then when one of us suggested that we pay a little bit more for seats inside, she agreed and we had booked seating in the lounge on the way back to Athens. The only other disappointment for me was that our tour lacked visits to art galleries. That is not Go Ahead Tours' fault. I knew that the itinerary included visits to archeological sites more so than to places like museums and art galleries. Our trip last year to Spain seemed to be a more well rounded trip with more of a variety of activities. Our weather was great and our tour guide "Gloria" was a real character. She gave us a lot of laughs. Our accomodations were quite good and well located. The food on the trip was very good. All in all a good trip - it just didn't knock it out of the ball park for me. I would not recommend this trip for art reasons but I would for reasons of history and culture. I still had a very good time.
A great mix of Ancient Worlds!
This tour is full of surprises! You don't only visit the cities, you become part of them. Some of my highlights were tasting the lemons in Sorrento, cruising around the Island of Capri on a mini-boat, walking on the stepping stones through Pompeii, throwing a coin in the Trevi Fountain (so I can return to Rome someday), hearing perfect acoustics in Epidaurus, and walking through the Plaka in Athens. It was amazing!
Great time for us!
This was one of those "the best of..." tours that went to places I wanted to see again and my wife to see for the first time. I visited Naples, Capri, Rome, and Athens in the '70s while in the US Navy, but this time I was with my spouse, other family members, friends, and acquaintances who soon became friends. The hotels were great! The daily buffet breakfasts were a time to visit and get the day ahead in context. This tour was a great blend of structured tours and free time. The hotels were located so that we could make the free time "count" and did a lot of "penny walks" in Athens and Rome. Pool time in the afternoons was a great time to get to know each other in the group and to connect. The highlight, though, was the extension for 4 days in Santorini...it was the perfect setting to relax and reflect about the places, people, and experiences we had while in Italy and Greece. Just a great time for us.
Great Tour
This tour took in the major sights in both Italy and Greece. For a short tour it was exceptional.
Great opportunity
