A great trip!

I loved the tour and really loved our tour director, Alex. I love to keep busy on a tour and do not want a lot of down time so this tour with the optional excursions worked out great. I really appreciated that Alex was able to make it work out so if we wanted, we could go see Dachau as I felt that I needed to see this as it was part of Germany's past.

germany

All in all it was good but the days could have been about an hour shorter. And the meals could have been briefer. The guide was great. Berlin could have been an option instead of standard. It was the least enjoyable

Architecture, history, great food and beer

Overall an excellent overview of German culture, history and architecture. Requires some walking to get the most out of the tours, particularly Bamberg and Neuschwanstein castle, but well worth the effort. Great food and beer.

Historic Germany, Berlin to Munich

This was my first trip to Germany. I liked it so much I did not want to come back. I especially enjoyed the friendly informative guides ,most particularly in Berlin, Bamberg and Rothenburg.I had several opportunities to eat at local restaurants. I discovered a favorite- Curry Wurst., and of course the local beer was a treat , especially to a non- beer- drinker.. Thank you for hosting such a wonderful experience. Kathrine Smith

Germany Anyone?

If you want to see and spend time in the mountains of Germany, or visit quaint little villages in the country, this is not the tour for you. If you need a kickstart for your weight loss regime, love the city, and like to stay constantly busy, then sign up for this trip immediately! The architecture and hustle and bustle of this trip were amazing to watch as we made our way from Berlin to Munich. Experiencing World Cup when a nation comes together and routes for a team is not something the American mind comprehends. Hearing the locals joke before the Germany vs. England game, "The Germans are coming!" The constant drone of the horns, the murmer of the crowds consisting of thousands of people, the roar of the voices coming together as their team scored a goal, and the rouccus that ensued in the streets was well worth the trip. Parties lasting until the next morning celebrating Germany's victory over England, cars honking until the wee hours of the night...now THAT is what people should experience when they are on vacation. Medieval towns, crooked cobblestone streets, and quaint A-lined houses are instore for those looking to see what old Germany is all about. History lessons that were a tad too indepth for weary travelers left some tour goers a bit tired and overwhelmed. The unexpected heat wave that the Germans welcomed with open arms and naked bodies made my fellow Americans melt inside their clothes. Ninety degree heat plus humidity a cranky group doth it make. The one day spent in the country on the visit to Neuschwanstein castle was a much needed break form the energizer bunny sponsored visits to various cities. The proud and tall mountains stood there looming over passersby, and the dark clouds threatened to moisten anyone who dared walk out of a building. The relief of all these walking tours which were packed into 13 days? The beer. Don't look for bottled water...you'll spend $3.00 on 12 ounces of "gourmet water." Stick with German water made with hops. You can't go wrong with a litre of beer. Dark, amber, pale, or smoked (yes, smoked. Go to Bamberg and give it a whirl, you won't be disappointed), the cool liquid quenched anyone's thirst. You can find beer anywhere you go: The gas station, the beir gardens, the grocery store, and yes, even McDonalds! If you're wanting to go to Germany, add some variety to your trip. Although a great trip it was indeed, it needed more jaunts to the country to break up the cities which were starting to look the same. The castles and palaces were stunning, the beer was amazing, and the sausages were out of this world. Don't miss an opportunity to visit Germany and be sure to go with Go Ahead for a pleasant and easy trip. Thanks Go Ahead!

Fascinating Germany

I loved Germany as a country: clean, green, and friendly. The hotels we stayed at were great although not located in the heart of shopping or tourist destinations. Taxi cabs are cheap and plentiful. Berlin is marvelous; to see all the places I've read about and to see famous WWII and Cold War places is priceless. It's a great combination of brand new buildings and modern amenties with historical palaces and museums. There is a lot of walking as parking is generally far from the site. Local guides were knowledgeable although sometimes hard to understand. I think using audiovox systems would make the guides more understandable. The Tour Director was very responsible, reliable and lots of fun. It's an unforgettable trip and left me with lots of wonderful memories. I highly recommend it.

Wonderful! It was so much more than I had expected

We had always toured on our own, so I was somewhat leery of taking an organized tour. It turned out to be carefree travelling. We saw so much of the beauty of Germany and its people. The medieval town of Bamberg was our favorite. We stayed in a lovely, family run hotel in the heart of the picturesque walking town. We would have loved to spend more time there. However, we did thoroughly enjoyed the city life and history of Berlin, the architectural beauty of Dresden and the sidewalk cafes and beer gardens of Munich. They all had something different to offer. All of our accommodations were very good (by American standards) and provided easy access to public transportation for when we had time on our own. With our native Go Ahead tour guide Alex and the other local tour guides, we were able to get to much so more information than what is printed in the travel books. We got a real feel of the impact of that the building and fall of the Wall and subsequent reunification has had on the people of Germany. I would not hesitate to recommend this tour to anyone.
