Highlights of Eastern Europe

This was a good tour...informative.....an abundance of awesome sights... Would have liked it if our tour guide was more solicitous regarding the needs of individuals and the physical demands of certain activities. Also we needed some anticipatory guidance regarding what to expect before certain experiences e.g" Be prepared to walk down between 450 & 550 stairs" before the Salt Mine experience in Krakow or telling us prior to a walk to the town square that this walk would be at a very fast pace as we have to be back to the hotel by........(a certain time). Tour guide did not wear a brightly colored hat or hold up anything that would help us keep up with him - this was very anxiety provoking.

HIGHLIGHTS OF EASTERN EUROPE

This was an excellent tour for people who like to be very active. We had a knowledgeable tour leader who had grown up under the communist regime until 1990. He had traveled to every location on our agenda more than once, always talked about the history of an area we would visit before our arrival, and on arrival showed us how to use the public transportation. He had great ideas on how to use our free time, also info on restaurants and shopping. I highly recommend this tour.

Eating Your Way Through Eastern Europe

I had a great experience eating my way through Eastern Europe. Hungary showed me goulash, venison haunch and rooster ball stew. Austria had Sacher Torte, apple strudel with vanilla sauce and many delicious sausages. Czech Republic had huge pork knuckle, rolled chicken with mushrooms and saffron shrimp with risotto. Poland had wonderful drinking chocolate, rabbit with sausage and mushroom stuffing and roasted pierogis with garlic sauce. Germany had weiner schnitzel, wild ram soup and smoked meats. I thoroughly enjoyed the unusual dining experience and with all the walking, I never gained a kilogram.

back to my homeland

We selected this tour because being of Polish descent, my wife & I had always wanted to travel to Poland. We were somewhat wary of the other sites although we had heard that Prague was beautiful and indeed it was. To our pleasant surprise, we found all the stops to be wonderful. We especially loved Budapest as we were soaking in one of its historic spas and traveling down the Danube for a spectacular night cruise with all its beautiful buildings lit up at night. In Poland we found Krakow to be absolutely a stunning Polish experience. We loved the trip and are thinking about Scotland for our next Go Ahead tour. ps Paul, our tour guide and Gabor, our driver, were the best

Great combination of sights, experiences, history

There is a lot of common history throughout Eastern Europe, and our expert tour director really brought that to life. It really helped us understand the cultures, arts and architectures we experienced in the various tour cities. And with optional excursions, it was easy enough to find the right balance between scheduled time and free time. However, it does get to be a bit of a whirlwind going to so many places, so pictures are a must to keep track of all those wonderful sights!

Eastern Europe Rocks!

Wow! What a trip! It was so exciting to see how far the Eastern Block countries have come since the fall of the Berlin Wall. What a proud people! The historical perspective alone was worth the trip! Auschwitz is a MUST SEE. We must not forget. Our tour director was dynamite and truly cared about everyone in our group. I LOVED this trip and am ready to go again!

Highlights of Eastern Europe

We visited 6 countries in 18 days (with the Berlin extension) and saw more than we expected. Auschwitz was a once-in-a- lifetime experience. The salt mine in Poland (added by our tour director) was outstanding! Who would think that 400 ft. under ground you would see a cathedral, a reception room for weddings, a restaurant, and gift shop all carved into the rock salt.. The cathedral was made of salt (altar, statues, and wall carvings). We enjoyed Budapest, Hungary; Prague, Czech Republic; Krakow and Warsaw, Poland. Germany gave us a perspective of history--the Brandenburg Gate, Checkpoint Charlie, remnants of the Berlin Wall, Hitler's bombed bunker, and the conference room at Cecillienhof Castle in Potsdam, where Truman, Churchill, and Stalin met. A fantastic tour director made it a trip to remember. .

Wonderful Experience

My first time on a tour and it definitely won't be the last. The tour director, Paul Vladu was amazing and ably assisted by Thomas our driver. Paul was helpful, informative, and fun. Everything was organized and he did lots of little things; stopping to show us sights not on the itinerary that made long drives more comfortable. I can't say enough great things about Paul. The cities themselves were so beautiful. Prague was magical. We met lots of great people from all over the country. It was truly a memorable trip.
